What is the best setting for HDMI Deep colour: 30 bits, 36 bits or Off

What is the best setting for downsampling: 48k, 96k, 192k

What is the best setting for Dynamic Range Control: On, Off, Auto

I have a Samsung BD-2550 and I recently upgraded to a Pioneer Elite BDP-62FD. I'd like to know from anyone who has upgraded, what do I have to expect in improvements with this player? My other BR player is a Sony PS3. Is the Pioneer really better than it?

Is it worth keeping the Samsung player for a bedroom that doesn't currently have a Blu-ray player (but will barely get used) or better to sell it now while it still has value? I also have a DVDO Iscan Pro that looks like it's getting ebay'd or craigslisted if I put the Samsung for sale.

I have been putting my 62 through its paces and giving it a good work out. I really like this blu-ray player. However, I have noticed on my first blu-ray movie for this player that I'm getting lip sync issues. Its not like slight lip sync, its very noticeable. I don't get lip sync with Netlix or You Tube. So my question is what am I doing wrong? Is it some set up or setting issue/adjustment it needs? I intend to keep this player, however, I'm thinking if I can't correct this problem maybe I should get an exchange unit.

Could other owners of the 62 please share their lip sync stories. Maybe I'm one the very few having this problem. I don't have this issue with the Oppo 93 or PS3. All my devices are Pioneer and HDMI 1.3a or 1.4a compliant.

Thanks everyone

Last Saturday I bought the 62 at BB, I tried most of the features that night and also watched a movie, everything worked great.
The next night I could not get the player to turn on, front panel buttons didn't work and no remote, I had to disconnect the power cord
for a few seconds and it started working again. I thought this was a one time glitch but it happened again the next day. I exchange the
62 for a new one, even asked for a different build date. The new unit is doing the same thing, first day I got it I set it up and watched a
movie, the next day it doesn't respond. This is a replacement for a pioneer 51 which never had this problem. No other components have
changed. Once I do the power cord reset the player works perfectly with no hiccups. It's plugged into a APC H15 power conditioner.
Tonight I disconnect the LAN cable to see if that has any effect. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

eNorm, is the third one working OK?
If I only wait a few hours after its working and
try to use it, It seems to work fine, it's after sitting a day
that it becomes unresponsive.
The build date on my first unit was August and
the second one is October.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?
Maybe a bad batch?

AVFile,

The quick start feature is turned off, I thought about tuning
it on and seeing if it helps. The problem is it seems to take
a period of time for it to become unresponsive which makes
It difficult to troubleshoot. I have disconnect the LAN connection
and will see if that helps and I was gonna try plugging it directly
In the wall outlet to bypass the APC. The problem is I have a limited
amount of time to make a decision about returning it and looking for
something else.

I have not seen this issue for quite some time and mine stays on a lot (I use the BDP as my Pandora player). I had assumed that the previous F/W update had fixed something.

Try enabling quick start, leaving the LAN cable plugged in and make sure it has power all the time (i.e. that your APC doesn't power it down). I used to have mine plugged into a monster power strip that automatically stopped power to mine, whenever the LCD was powered down, but I noticed that (a) it takes a long time to start cold (especially on the network side) and (b) iControlAV2012 doesn't like it when it starts up and can't see both the AVR and the BDP.

Otherwise, please contact Pioneer tech support and let them help you - they are very responsive, in my experience, and there might be something else happening.

Krutsch,

I will try your suggestions, thanks.
I did update the F/W on both units.
From your response, are you suggesting
that this was a problem and was supposedly
fixed by the F/W update?

I *think* so... I've seen this lockup behavior, but it was months ago since the last occurrence. I recall there being a firmware update and then I didn't see this issue any more. In any case, it was rare - not like what you are describing.

No! The third one as the same problem as the other...

But I do find that if I enable the quick start feature, The problem went away...I just think its a bug in the firmware...

My BDP-150 recently did the same thing. Would not turn on with the remote or by pressing the power button on the front panel. Had not used the unit in a couple of days. It only worked after unplugging the power cord for about a minute. Then it would turn on with the remote.

It does sound like a firmware concern. Since other models are experiencing this.

The quick start function on mine is not turned on. I have to try with it on. Although this should be fixed with a firmware update.

I'm in the process of testing my 62 with quick start turned on.

I have also sent an email to pioneer support describing the problem.

I agree, this should be fixed in a F/W update.

Not on both BDP-53 and BDP-62. My "workaround" is now just unplug the unit when I don't use them.

If you mean 1080/50i (such as BBC's Sherlock), the answer is yes.

David,

When was the last FW update for the 53?
I'm trying to determine if pioneer will have a fix for this
shortly or I should just return the 62 and get something else.

So you are saying that turning on the quick start on the 62 didn't
fix the problem? Does your 62 have the latest FW update?

Honestly can't remember which FW I have but most definitely the latest one because everytime I'm about to watch a movie I always check for FW update (all my players around the house are internet connected.

The problem is somewhat 'fixed' when I set the playe to quick start but on ocassions it will still being unresponsive. So rather than playing Pioneer Roulette, I just unplug the player when I don't use them and just plug them in before I'm about to play a movie.

If I don't need PAL and 1080/50i playback, quite honestly I would've stayed with my Pana BDT-500 or the upcoming BDT-330. However, at the current price of $200, I don't find the problem to be big deal (well, kinda for me coz I bought it for $270)

There is something going on here; this unit is my daily driver for BD, streaming, Pandora and Netflix and I can't recall the last time I cold-booted the machine.

Krutsch,

I just turned on quick start this evening and reconnected the LAN.
I won't know until tomorrow evening if it helped. It becomes unresponsive
after about a day. So far it appears the 53, 62 and the 150 are experiencing
the problem.

Most of the time it "fixes" the machine but still around once a week or once every two weeks the problem comes back.

You can just hook your power cord to a switch. At the end of the day before you go to bed, switch it off, in the morning, switch it back on. Or one of client is using a timer that powers off the machine at 3am and turn it back on at 7am.

I really don't think we should have to unplug or setup timers to power off the machines to deal with this problem.
Has anyone had any feedback from pioneer?
I'm wondering if this is a hardware of FW problem.

Completely agreed. I don't know why I am not seeing this problem and others are, but if I had to reboot the thing every time I wanted to watch a video, I would chuck it off my balcony.
