I just downloaded the Led Zeppelin III HD FLAC files, and when I play the album back through the BDP-103, I get definite stop/start between tracks. Friends/Celebration Day for instance does not flow smoothly but has an almost 1 second gap. This is my first attempt at using FLAC files on the OPPO. I plan to contact OPPO tech support, but in the meantime I was curious about the experience of others.

Also be aware that gapless playback does not just magically happen, you have to enable it via the UI each time you wish to use it --- on attached storage.

Correct, that turntable background pic is both an oxymoron (funny the first few times, but gauche after ...) and a little too busy for good readability, I want something composited for the job that ties in my theaters theme (and the wife is a talented graphic artist, so it will look nice).

I agree with you. And since Oppo listens to their customers I suggest you drop your idea in their suggestions box. Maybe no one ever asked for it, who knows!

Gapless is still a work in progress, and the expectation is that OPPO will address networked access after they get the kinks out of the direct access version.

Any hints if that expectation will hit the next release version?

No. It is on a massive wish list, but there is absolutely no guarantee of it ever becoming a part of the player. The player just barely got FLAC file support, and even that is proving to have problems with specific files.

The fact that CNN and ESPN sync varies suggests that the problem is in the source. If your DVD and Blu-ray shinny disks play with good sync, then what you may be trying to do is chase and solve sync problems that vary greatly among different TV channels and even within a single TV channel. That's a very difficult task. Various image enhancement features that you may have turned on in your display can contribute to sync problems in that they slow down video processing.

Thanks for the response and for the helpful links. For the record, I have not enabled any of the optional video processing functions on the Panasonic ZT60. The Panasonic G25 plasma that I have in my family room is connected directly (via HDMI) to a DirecTV DVR and I do not experience any synch issues.

Again, thanks for your assistance.

Is there a way on the Oppo 103 to see the AVERAGE video and audio bitrates of a Blu-Ray disc ?
When hitting the info button I can only see the CURRENT video bitrate (audio bitrate is not even visible)

No. I don't recall anyone asking for this before. Wouldn't you have to read the entire disc to find that average? Or do you mean "average to this point"?

That's really more of an HTPC analysis issue, such as you find in other title specification threads here.

I dont have a Bluray reader on my PC, otherwise I could just see this info with "Media Player Classic" for example.
Was wondering if the Oppo had this option...

Wouldn't you have bitrate 'til this point then? You'd have to scan the entire presentation to get the real average.

Could also project it via the total size of the main feature vs. the elapsed time, giving you an overall average.

I've had my oppo 103 for awhile and have never had any issues, but I mostly just play Bluray disks. Today I tried playing a .mkv file using a usb flash drive in the front usb port. There was some major lipsync, so I'm wondering if this is normal when using a flash drive or if something else might be going on?

No, they should be the same. Have you tested the file on other devices?

"Media player classic" just gives the average bitrate of a digital file. I have not been able to test this with a Blu-ray disc yet, since I don't have one in my PC.
How can I find out the total size of the main feature?

I just installed VLC on my computer so I could play the .mkv file, and it looks like it has some lip sync delay too. I guess I'll try a different .mkv file in the Oppo, as it looks like there isn't anything wrong on the Oppo's side.

dvdbeaver.com reviews new DVDs and BluRays, often comparing versions from different reguions. Their reviews show graphs of the bitrate through the length of the main feature, e.g. this review of The Grand Budapest Hotel:

There are a couple of things you should probably do as part of a firmware update when you have a region mod. First, make sure your player is set to its 'home' region and not to some other one. So, if you live in Region A territory, be sure you have set your player to that Region. Second, it is probably advisable to do a factory reset after the firmware update and then re-enter your personal settings. Finally, I have found that sometimes after a firmware update the region mod seems particularly sensitive to the timing of the entry of the key presses on the remote necessary to change regions. The first time I make a region change after a firmware update sometimes takes a couple of tries. It will subsequently be fine. The experience may be different on your particular mod.
You do know that you can backup and restore your settings? That is made so you dont have to re-enter your settings everytime after a factory reset.

Yes, I am aware of it. Some people, though, have not updated their firmware to a version that supports it.

Question BDP-103 SACD/DSD play back issue

I have a 103 with the latest firmware connected via HDMI to an Integra DHC 80.3. Redbook cd and Blu-ray play fine SACD and DVD-A do not. This did play fine at one time and I don't listen to digital music much, I'm a vinyl guy.

When I view the disc through the OSD it appears to be playing and is recognized as a SACD via DSD but no sound.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

^ The most likely explanation is that you are mistakenly listening to audio on the Optical or Coax digital audio output instead of via HDMI audio. Check your audio input selection in the Integra.

For SACD playback, also set SACD Output PCM and see if you get audio via HDMI to the Integra.

I know this doesn't belong on this Thread but I don't like the new version of AVS. I don't know why they keep having to mess up a good thing? I had my AVS link setup to go directly to the subscribed threads and then the latest unread post. I can't seem to find a way to do that with this new version. I used to have it setup to read the latest posts at the top as well and can't find that as well in order to change it. Maybe they want us to start paying for AVS 'cause I see the "Get Premium" all over the place. I may not be reading these posts as often because of all these changes?
