I have Disney's WOW for calibration and have used it in the past with the instructions given to calibrate the tv.
From the player I have it set up to Auto. Is this correct?

Hello guys:

Very happy with my OPPO 103. However, today I was playing some FLAC files through front USB port and noticed that gapless was not supported. Can anyone imagine listening to Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall without gapless? Am I missing something?

Best regards

Probably, but I would use 1080p just to be sure. You can verify what the player is producing by bringing up the On Screen Display with the Info button and pressing PageDown.

Gapless playback is supported via attached usb drive or network drive (SMB). It can be enabled from Oppo's onscreen interface or from its iOS/Android based Media Control app (V3, with latest Beta FW-77). APE, WAV, and FLAC are supported...

To add to Dan's comment...

For the onscreen interface, navigate to the first track, press the Option button, and select the Gapless Playback option which will begin playback in gapless mode. Unfortunately, there isn't a menu option to make gapless the default mode.

I went ahead andchanged the 103D's resolution to 1080p like my tv. I haven't seen any difference in dvd upconversion but I think I need to try more movies and compare with an older player.

Your best option to see a difference in the playback of std def material would likely be in documentaries or special features where film and video are mixed. My last Panasonic didn't deal very well with these transitions, though it was a fairly early model (bd35). These seemed to be where interlacing artifacts were the most visible.

(Plus bd35 was region 1/A locked and couldn't play any PAL content whatsoever.)

It has been two whole years since this thread came out. I'm going crazy wondering what the 113 will bring us! I admit, I almost don't even care about the 4K playback from disc as I probably stream about 99% of all media from my PC these days. Chances are other than the first 4K disc I buy to check out the quality, all the rest I'll just rip to my PC and put the discs in storage.

Bizarrely enough, it's been three years since you started a different thread on this very topic: What features would you like in your next Oppo BR - e.g. Oppo BDP-113 and BDP-115.

Yeah that thread was started back when I had a 93 but they thought it would be best if they just extend it when the 103 came out. So the 2 threads were combined. Some of the things I wanted have changed since then as some had been addressed in the 103. If you look down about 5 threads someone quoted the original and you can see how much shorter it was. Still loving my 103 as much as I did the 93 and I can't think of another player I'd rather have.

^ Awesome! Oppo added my recommendation to auto rotate the app display to the proper orientation (i.e. landscape or portrait) on startup!

Update: Not sure what happened, but successive startups of the app fail to auto rotate the app's display to the proper orientation of the iPad's display. The app is still fixed in portrait mode on startup. Bummer!

The new MediaControl app needs the 0827B Public Beta firmware -- not out just yet as an Official release. (Public Beta firmware is not offered for network install.)

You install the Public Beta firmware by downloading it from the OPPO support page and installing it via a USB stick. Instructions and the download link are here:

Thanks,

OPPO doesn't usually talk about futures, so no one really knows. We don't expect a new player this year. 4k Blu-ray is supposed to arrive by the end of 2015, so there is much speculation that OPPO might have a new player then. But again, they haven't said anything about it.

Waiting lets the specs for HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2 and 4k settle down.

Oppo has stated nothing coming out this year. Probably more like a year from now.

I'd say setting Sharpness in HDMI2 as +16, while still watching via HDMI1, is roughly the equivalent of an HDMI1 Sharpness setting of +0.3.

Please don't take that away from us !!!

PS: Tested and still functional with the latest Beta.
This is way after the fact, but I was going to try this effect out on my 103 last night and noticed that while the picture adjustment on HDMI1 Sharpness goes to +16, on HDMI2 it maxes out at +2. I'm doing something really stupid, right? Or missing something obvious? Is it because I don't have anything hooked up to HDMI2? I feel silly for asking, but does anyone see where I'm going wrong here?

Thanks in advance.

Note: That I actually use a 103D in my main room. The 103 (that's not listed in my .sig) is in the Bedroom. So not knowing which player this bug works on is not one of my problems.

No, that's correct. Different chips handle the control for the two outputs: QDEO for HDMI1 and Mediatek for HDMI2. They have different capabilities.

Hello Bill and Warrian,

That sounds strange... I'm not at home at this time, but I'm pretty sure that on my 103, with the latest Beta, both HDMI1 and HDMI2 have Sharpness controls which go up to +16. The effect is subtle on HDMI2, but the slider does go up to +16.

By the way, I'm only using HDMI1, nothing is connected to HDMI2.

Can you please confirm ?

Thanks,

Fernando

I'm probably getting my players and outputs confused. I'll try to check it later.

Having followed Oppo for a while as a user and owner, my observation is that they only come out with new players when those players are going to have significant improvements or new functions.

As an example, they introduced their first bluray player (BDP-83, which is still cranking along for me) in 2009. That's three full years after bluray players hit the market. They also had a long and open testing phase for it, which you can read about in one of the threads here.

Each of their new players hasn't been prompted by calendar as far as I can see, but to introduce new features that were not possible to add to their previous player by firmware updates. The last player I bought - the 103d is I think a new player, since the graphic chips were swapped, the Darbee was added, etc.

With Oppo's usual great QC, I haven't had any issues with the player or the new components. Given Oppo's resale value, buying one now and selling then would probably get you most of your 'investment' back.

You've gotten good information, Oppo won't move until it feels the specs are stable and it can maintain its high standards. If and when you have a 4K player from them, you can be sure in my opinion that it will be rock solid and won't try to beat the first number of 4K players. It's probably why I'll get one to go with my OLED display (would be cool if it were from Vizio).

I'd chalk it up to boyish enthusiasm.

Or a stealth campaign to generate more Beta love.

The Public Betas are actually pretty cool, because if you DO run into a problem you can roll back to the previous Official firmware. Once the Beta becomes Official you can no longer roll back to earlier firmware.

So if you are going to run into a problem, it's better if that happens with a Beta!

Of course us Beta testers know what a Public Beta entails. You guys never get to see the NON public stuff that didn't make the cut!

What password

I have a 103, ASUS RT-N66U and a 2012 Imac with Yosemite, If I have a thumb drive in the router I can see the stuff on it, beneath the icon for the thumb drive is one for the Imac, when I click it, I am asked for a password. I enter the admin account name and pw for the Imac and it does not work. What password is needed. Thanks ron

It's probably why I'll get one to go with my OLED display (would be cool if it were from Vizio).
That is great information!

Looks like The 103D will be the one for me.

Best regards,
Michal

Apple's implementation of SMB file shares is currently not compatible with what the OPPO expects.

There's a way to alter how the Mac does it which WILL work with the OPPO, but no guarantees it won't introduce other problems.

OPPO has a Knowledge Base post on this on their Support page. I'll fetch a link for you when I'm at my computer, later.

There's some hope Apple and OPPO will get on the same page sometime in the future, but it hasn't happened yet.
