JazzGuyy,

Thanks for posting that link ! I already kind of figured it out and did what was suggested in the link. I'm all set and both the 103 and 105D are working great in the same rack. Thanks again!

I have been looking at changing things in our room and thought an Oppo was the way to go and now I am thoroughly confused!

Currently we use a Pioneer 3D player for 3D movies only and a Dune player for playback of all files on my 40TB server with our collection (all items are in mkv form).

I want one player for all of this if possible.

Pioneer does a great job for 3D playback but cannot do squat for our media collection. Dune player is great for media playback but not 3D. At one time the Dune player had a good media solution in Yadis (not a fan of Zappiti) but that is not supported anymore and it works like crap for me now (many, many missing items).

My question is can the Oppo handle all my needs including a quality media solution like Yadis, My Movies etc.

We use Plex for everything else in the house and like it a lot. I do not want to go that road in the family room as I want the best picture and sound I can get for projecting on our 120" screen.

Reading through here has me all baffled as to what the Oppo can do and not do now.

Also I use Makemkv for all of my rips but own DVDFab as well.

TIA for your help.

I wrote to Oppo and asked if they were aware of any problems with file-streaming via SMB or DLNA servers among people who have converted to Windows 10. I got the followqing answer in less than five minutes:

"It is likely that SMB will not work with Windows 10 as it does not work with Windows 8.1. The best solution is to still use a DLNA server on the computer to stream the files through the network."

SMB does work with Windows 8.1. An update a number of months ago fixed this. I would expect Windows 10 would work just as well.

Windows 10 is mostly Windows 8.1 as far as most things go so stuff that works in 8 should work in 10 as well.

Actually, in less than a month from now, it will have been 1 year since the last public beta was released for the 10x players, which turns out to be the same firmware Oppo released on Oct. 24 as the latest official release. So nobody knows when this next release will happen....anybody's guess.

Will Tidal still even be an active service? Doesn't sound like they're doing too well.

Hi!

Those who are using the USB out as trigger for power amplifier do you use USB 1 or USB 2? is there a difference in these outputs?

Is there to buy done cables that have usb in one end and 5v-12v pin connector?

thanks in advance!

Makes no difference. Either will supply 500mA at 5vDC. Be aware they are on all the time if the player is in "Quick-Start" mode.
Can't answer the question about cables.

Actually i read somewhere i will see if i can find it that either "stand-by" mode will power down the USB outputs.

Works in both rear usb connections on my BDP-105D.

I tried finding a ready-made cable that could do the job. Found a couple cheap ones that had 3.5mm on one end and usb on the other,
but they did not work because the wiring configuration isn't correct for this type of application.
Those cables are meant for audio and not power, but thought I would try them anyway.
However I ended up having to make my own cable.
If you aren't up for making your own, there are lots of cable makers out there that will make you a custom cable.

!WARNING! ~ If you do experiment with this type cabling, be VERY careful what you do.
If you use a cable or wire a cable in the wrong configuration, you can fry your player and/or amp.
It could be a very costly lesson, so be sure that you know exactly what you are doing when attempting such things.

To answer at least part of the question, the Oppo will not play frame packed 3D mkv files. When I asked about this before, they said their decoder chip manufacturer does not support it, and they were not optimistic about support ever being added.

I suppose I should clarify - it will play frame packed 3D mkv files, but will only play them in 2D.

Very good to know. Running SMB on 8.1 now and that's the most important function for me since I watch most my movies this way. Hope Oppo will continue working on SMB so it won't be a experimental beta feature forever.

Hello! I'm a Panasonic bdt500 owner, for those of you who have or have tried the Panasonic, I would like to know if I will notice a huge difference in video and sound performance(using the analog audio outputs) if I upgrade to the Oppo 103, I use to play just blu rays. Thank you!

Hi, I was a Panasonic BD50 owner (the first Blu-ray player from any manufacturer to be able to decode DTS HD Master Audio and feed it out through analog jacks - TrueHD and LPCM were three-finger exercises by comparison) who moved up to the BDP-93 when I realized that the analog output of my Denon 2910 DVD/CD/DVD-A/SACD player sounded richer than the Panasonic even on CDs. I figured the Oppo would sound closer to the Denon, and I wanted good sound from Blu-rays.

For an analog output guy, the Oppos - even the entry level models (the 93 and 103) - sound great by comparison to the Panasonics, probably because the need to design an analog output stage worthy of DVD-A and SACD disks benefits the sound of Blu-rays and CDs as well.
