Dumb question/questions? I simply want to know if I can replace my Roku with a new Oppo. I only stream Netflix, outside of movies locally from my Plex Server/NAS. Roku has really slick Plex client, so I was just wondering if the Oppo did as well. Sounds like it does not.

Thanks.

^ There is no Plex app in the OPPO player itself.

You can hook a Roku 3 into either of the HDMI inputs of the 103.

Yes - you can use Plex as a media server for the Oppo units - but via Plex's DLNA capabilities. There is no implementation of the Plex client itself on the Oppos.
What you can do, specifically, with the Plex DLNA and the Oppos is:
1) Use the Oppo on-screen generic DLNA/Network client to browse and play media from a Plex server.
2) use the Plex player on an iPad or phone to push media from the Plex server to the Oppo

The release notes for Feb 2014 have this:

Quote:
8. Added an "INSTANT REPLAY" function to video playback. If the customer presses the AB REPLAY button twice (two presses within 1 second), video playback will be automatically rewound 10 seconds.
I remember experimenting with it at the time but haven't used it since. You have to be quick, but can stack up multiple 10 second intervals for a larger jump.

I think it works for media files, but would have to verify to be sure.

Thanks, Bill

Can I do skip forward too? I use that more than replay.

I don't recall a predefined timed skip forward. Obviously you have Fast Forward and chapter skip.

Nope - I submitted a request to add such a function to OPPO about a year ago, if not on the physical remote itself, then on the remote app at least.
You should do the same, as I'm sure OPPO prioritizes adding features based (at least in part) by customer demand

Correct, Oppo told me this awhile back. I never tried M2TS:

The player does not support 3D MKV. This is something that we are trying to get supported in our player, but so far our decoder manufacturer has not been too interested in supporting this format.

Do the "little hands" watch it in 3D? If not, you can always use the network for 2D viewing, and disc for 3D viewing only.

When I tried one of my 3D discs with MakeMKV, the Oppo played the MVC in 2D just fine.

There was no bounce back and forth in the other two scenarios either - but thanks for the reminder that there is a 3rd scenario.

Yup, they do watch the 3D, and with certain movies, they watch it non stop.

I really like these features on my Sony players, wish Oppo would do the same but it looks like they haven't updated the remote in years.

Hi,

I've been skimming over this thread and the 103d thread to help me decide which model to buy. Since I have no real interest in Darbee I'm leaning towards the 103 but am concerned about the undefeatable NR in the Marvel chip.

I'm coming off a Panny blu ray player and was wondering if (using HDMI 1) the 103 produced an image that is too soft and un-film like. Or perhaps a better question is is it noticeably different than the HDMI 2 output?

Finally, if you use HDMI 2 for video, can you send the 7.1 sound through HDMI 1 to a receiver?

Thanks.

Beta Firmware

Is the latest beta firmware issued on 10 August ever likely to be made Official?!

Seems to be taking a very long time on this occasion...

Firmware must be baked until the toothpick comes out clean... Only Oppo could tell you for sure when they expect it will be ready, so I'd suggest contacting them. In the meantime, feel free to use the beta version - you can always roll back to the previous official release if you run into issues you can't live with.

It should be said that most people don't even notice it, and some that do actually prefer it. It's a SMALL level of processing. It is mostly spotted by people scrutinizing SD-DVD playback.

With Split A/V set, audio is muted on HDMI 1 output. So, no.

If you buy direct from the OPPO Digital web site, they have an easy 30 day return policy. All you risk is the shipping. So you can see for yourself.

Or getting the 103D (and perhaps leaving Darbee off) avoids the whole issue.

It was mentioned above that the 103 can stream off of PLex with DLNA. Is there any loss of quality coming from PLEX (I assume it will not transcode and should send full info) vs network streaming the file directly?

Looking to get the best video quality possible to projector (and lumagen video processor).

Thanks

Have you seen Darbee? It's freakin awesome! Spend the extra money it's worth it! Especially if you have a PJ. And not just for SD material HD material becomes seriously life like. Don't believe me? Pop in a Tom Cruise movie and you'll suddenly realize how old he actually is when Darbee is on.

Just 'cause you're right doesn't mean I'm wrong
