Release date: November 20, 2012
Category: Latest Public Beta Release
Main Version: BDP10X-37-1114B
Loader Version: 6U0900 (BDP-103), 7B0600 (BDP-105)
Sub Version: MCU103-05-0916 (BDP-103), MCU105-04-1113 (BDP-105)

1. Added support for "Rhapsody" online music and "CinemaNow" movie/TV streaming services.
2. Added the "Blank HDMI 2" option in the Setup Menu -> Video Setup -> 3D Setting. This allows the player to force HDMI 2 to output a 2D blank screen when HDMI 1 outputs 3D video. Some customers reported that during 3D movie playback, when HDMI 1 was connected to a 3D display and HDMI 2 was connected to a non-3D receiver which in turn is connected to the same 3D display, there was no audio coming from the receiver. This issue has been resolved.
3. Resolved the incorrect aspect ratio (AR) during some user-created media. In the previous firmware the player may have unnecessarily pillarboxed or stretched the video of some user-created media files. This issue has been resolved.
4. Resolved an incompatibility with older Digital Coaxial or Optical receivers where streaming services (such as Netflix, YouTube) produced no audio.
5. Improved the user experience in the HOME menu and the Media Center (Photo, Music, or Movie) e.g., Added Thumbnail View mode for Movie and Music, and the customer can press RED COLOR button to quickly switch between File List mode and Thumbnail View mode.
6. Added "Sleep Timer" option in the Setup Menu -> Device Setup. This allows the player to turn itself off after a specific amount of time.
7. Added support for converting Side-by-Side and Top-Bottom formatted MKV into 3D. During the playback of a compatible MKV, press the 3D button on the remote once to turn on the "2D->3D" conversion then press the 3D button again to display the "3D Setting" menu. Select "Side-by-Side" or "Top-Bottom" to match the source to convert the image to 3D.
8. Added "CD Program Play" function for CD/SACD playback. During the disc playback, press the YELLOW COLOR button to bring the “Program Play” interface. Here you can use the LEFT/RIGHT ARROW button to set a desired playlist.
9. General disc compatibility improvement based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples.
Special notices: a) In order to facilitate the user experience improvement in media navigation (item 6 above), the player will create an "OPPO_Media_Info" folder on the connected USB storage device and store media information there. You may find this folder on USB flash drives or external hard drives after using those on the OPPO player. Please do not delete the folder and its files.
b) SD DVD de-interlacing performance is not as good as that of the official firmware release BDP10X-33-1018. If you watch DVD often, we recommend that you skip this beta test version and wait for the next official release, which will fix this problem.
c) You can revert back to the previous Official release via a USB thumb drive.

Release date: December 6, 2012
Category: Latest Public Beta Release
Main Version: BDP10X-38-1205B
Loader Version: 6U0900 (BDP-103), 7B0600 (BDP-105)
Sub Version: MCU103-05-0916 (BDP-103), MCU105-04-1113 (BDP-105)

1. Improved audio/video synchronization for disc playback, internet streaming, and external HDMI/MHL inputs. In the previous firmware, customers have been reporting that the sound could be out of sync with the picture. This issue has been improved in this Beta firmware.
2. Resolved the DVD de-interlacing performance issue of previous Public Beta firmware BDP10X-37-1114B. DVD de-interlacing performance in the previous Public Beta firmware was not as good as that of the current official firmware release BDP10X-33-1018. This new Public Beta firmware has resolved the issue and DVD de-interlacing performance is as good as the official firmware.
3. Improved media file navigation speed on USB hard disk or thumb drives. This is achieved by caching some of the media information in an "OPPO_Media_Info" folder on the USB drive. For users who prefer that the player not write anything to the USB drive, there is a "Cache Media Info" item in the "Setup Menu" under "Device Setup". We recommend that you set this "Cache Media Info" option to ON and do not delete the "OPPO_Media_Info" folder and its files. This will deliver user experience improvement in media navigation. On the other hand, turning this option OFF can prevent the player from writing to your USB drive, at the cost of slower media file navigation.
4. Added the support for DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD sound tracks in MKV files. As with any user-encoded media files, compatibility still depends on the software and techniques used to encode the media files.
5. General disc compatibility improvement based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples. Special notices: you can revert back to the previous Official release via a USB thumb drive.

1. Resolved the HDMI high bit-rate (HBR) audio loss issue with Anthem MRX 300/500/700 AV Receivers. Customers have reported that when sending DTS-HD MA or Dolby True HD signals in Bitstream mode through HDMI 1 OUT to these Anthem receivers, no audio was detected by Anthem and static noise could be heard on the speakers. This issue has been resolved.
2. Improved audio/video synchronization for disc playback, internet streaming, and external HDMI/MHL inputs. In the previous firmware, customers have been reporting that the sound could be out of sync with the picture. This issue has been improved.
3. Improved media file navigation on USB hard disk or thumb drives. Added Thumbnail View mode for Movie and Music. Customers can press the RED color button to quickly switch between File List mode and Thumbnail View mode. There is also an improvement to the responsiveness achieved by caching some of the media information in an "OPPO_Media_Info" folder on the USB drive. NOTE: for users who prefer that the player not write anything to the USB drive, there is a "Cache Media Info" item in the "Setup Menu" under "Device Setup".

6. Resolved an incompatibility with older Digital Coaxial or Optical receivers where streaming services (such as Netflix, YouTube) produced no audio.
7. Added support for "Rhapsody" online music and "CinemaNow" movie/TV streaming services.
8. Added "Sleep Timer" option in the Setup Menu -> Device Setup. This allows the player to turn itself off after a specific amount of time.
10. Added the support for DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD sound tracks in MKV files. As with any user-encoded media files, compatibility still depends on the software and techniques used to encode the media files.
11. Added "CD Program Play" function for CD/SACD playback. During the disc playback, press the YELLOW COLOR button to bring the "Program Play" interface. Here you can use the LEFT/RIGHT ARROW button to set a desired playlist.
12. General disc compatibility improvement based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples.

Category: Latest Official Release
Main Version: BDP10X-38-1220
Loader Version: 6U0900 or 7B0800 (BDP-103), 7B0800 (BDP-105)
Sub Version: MCU103-05-0916 (BDP-103), MCU105-04-1113 (BDP-105)

1. Resolved an issue where some SACD media were being incorrectly played as a standard CD audio disc. Customers have reported that their BDP-105 players would load a SACD and the resulting audio would be standard CD audio disc as confirmed by the front panel showing "CDDA" rather than "SACD" as the "Disc Type". This issue has been resolved.
2. Resolved an issue where the Roku Streaming Stick firmware would fail to upgrade correctly. Customers have reported that when the Roku Streaming Stick was connected to the HDMI/MHL IN port on the BDP-103/105, it could detect and download the new firmware but would not install it correctly. This would cause the Roku Streaming Stick to remain on the factory installed firmware. This issue has been resolved.
3. General disc compatibility improvement based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples.

Release date: March 26, 2013
Category: Latest Public Beta Test Release
Main Version: BDP10X-50-0323B
Loader Version: 6U0900 or 7B0800 (BDP-103), 7B0800 (BDP-105)
Sub Version: MCU103-05-0916 (BDP-103), MCU105-04-1113 (BDP-105)

Special Notice:
1. It is not possible to revert back to any previous official or beta firmware releases once this version is installed on the player. There will be no problem upgrading to any future official or beta firmware releases.
2. Due to the extensive changes in this major firmware update, it is required that the user performs a "Reset Factory Defaults" operation after the firmware is installed. Please write down your special settings before doing this, and remember to re-apply your settings and adjust the proper volume level (if applicable) before you play any content. You may experience stability issues if this step is not performed.
3. The new decoder firmware supplied by our chip vendor tightens the validation check for AVCHD file format. If the files in the BDMV folder do not fully comply with the AVCHD specification, the folder will not play. (For example, if the files are from a disc backup instead of an original AVCHD recording, the player will reject it.)
4. The VUDU application has been updated and some titles now have subtitles. However, turning on subtitles may result in the player exiting to the HOME menu unexpectedly. We are currently working with VUDU to resolve this issue.

Release Notes:
1. Added support for Direct Stream Digital (DSD) file playback from local storage. The DSD files can be either stereo or multi-channel. Both the DFF and the DSF formats are supported.
2. Added support for CUE file playback. The function can be applied to music files on local storage and supported audio formats include FLAC, WAV, APE and MP3.
3. Added a feature that allows the creation of playlists while accessing music files from local USB storage. When navigating these music files, pressing the OPTION button will bring up a menu with a prompt to either "Add to playlist" or "Goto playlist". The created playlist file is stored within the local USB storage, inside "OPPO_Media_Info/playlist".
4. Added support for the AIFF audio format.
5. Added support for the ExFAT file system.
6. Added additional Crossover Frequency selections (50, 70, 130, 140 and 160Hz) in the "Setup Menu"->"Audio Processing"->"Crossover".
7. Added a feature that allows the user to decide which mode (Auto, Film and Video) to use when performing video de-interlacing. This can be set in "Setup Menu"->"Video Setup" -> "HDMI Options"->"De-interlacing Mode".
8. Added DMR Seek capability, so the user can drag the progress bar on the DMC side and adjust the media file playback progress on the player.
9. Removed a limitation in "Audio Processing"->"Speaker Configuration", that turns off the SBL and SBR speakers automatically when the Center speaker is set to "Off". However, if the SL and the SR speakers are set to "Off", the SBL and the SBR speakers will still be muted.
10. Resolved a recently reported FLAC file playback failure issue. Some FLAC files made from the latest version of the EAC (Exact Audio Copy) software tool could not be played on the BDP-103/105 players. This issue has been resolved.
11. Improved the down-mixing algorithm for the BDP-105's headphone output. This results in better volume and sound stage when playing certain multi-channel audio sources.
  • This change takes advantage of the main audio DSP (digital signal processor) that is normally assigned to the multi-channel analog output.
  • When headphones are connected, the multi-channel analog output is muted and the DSP is temporarily reconfigured for stereo down-mixing and its output is routed to the headphone amplifier. Please do not try to adjust the player's audio processing settings while the headphones are plugged in, as these settings are only temporarily used and will be restored to the user's original settings when the headphones are removed.
12. Added a feature that allows the adjustment of the audio delay time within the range of -100ms to +100ms. This can be set under "Setup Menu"->"Audio Processing" -> "A/V Sync", and the delayed time will be applied to all output terminals including HDMI 1 and 2, Coaxial, Optical, and 7.1 outputs (including the Stereo outputs of the BDP-105).
[/list]

  • The actual audio delay effect might be different for each of the output terminals due to the different audio process algorithms and signal paths used for each output. Please adjust this setting based on the actual output terminal in use.
  • The negative adjustment values are for cancelling out the audio delay that the player automatically applies.
  • Depending on the video source and the time it takes to process the video, the main decoder chip automatically applies an audio delay in order to optimize audio video synchronization. The negative manual settings reduce the automatic audio delay, while the positive manual settings apply additional delay. Any negative value setting beyond the player's automatic delay will be treated as completely cancelling the automatic delay. For example, if the "A/V Sync" value is manually set to -100ms and for the current video source the player applies a 70ms automatic audio delay, the final result is that the 70ms audio delay gets cancelled and the audio is not delayed at all.
  • It is not possible to put audio ahead of video using this setting.
13. Resolved the brief audio popping issue found on the 7.1 and Stereo audio outputs. This popping noise could happen when the player is processing content from a television cable box (through the HDMI inputs), and when channels are switched on the cable box. This issue has been resolved.
14. Added basic support for a USB keyboard. Some of the supported keys and their functions are:
  • Numerical keyboard: if Num Lock is turned on, functions as Numerical buttons; if Num Lock is turned off, functions as navigation buttons ("2", "4", "6", "8").
  • ARROW buttons (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT): functions as navigation buttons.
  • HOME button: functions as HOME button.
  • END button: functions as STOP button.
  • Page Up/Down buttons: functions as PAGE UP/DOWN buttons.
  • ESC button: functions as RETURN button.
  • ENTER button: functions as ENTER button.
  • SPACE button: insert a space between characters on the soft keyboard.
15. General disc compatibility improvement based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples.

Sub Version: MCU103-05-0916 (BDP-103), MCU105-04-1113 (BDP-105)

Special Notice:

  1. Once this firmware version is installed on the player, you will not be able to revert back to any previous official or public beta firmware. There will be no problem upgrading to any future official or beta firmware release.
  3. The new decoder firmware supplied by our chip vendor tightens the validation check for the AVCHD file format. If the files in the BDMV folder do not fully comply with the AVCHD specification, the folder will not play. (For example, if the files are from a disc backup instead of an original AVCHD recording, the player will reject it.)

Release Notes:
1. Added support for Direct Stream Digital (DSD) file playback from local storage. The DSD files can be either stereo or multi-channel. Both the DFF and the DSF formats are supported. (The channel mapping error reported in the beta firmware that affects PCM conversion of multi-channel DSD file has been corrected in this official release.)
2. Added support for CUE file playback. This function can be applied to music files on local storage and supported audio formats include FLAC, WAV, APE and MP3.
(Standard AIFF files are supported. AIFF files with AIFF-C/sowt encoding generated by Mac OS X are not supported.)
5. Added support for the ExFAT file system.
6. Added additional Crossover Frequency selections (50, 70, 130, 140 and 160Hz) in "Setup Menu"->"Audio Processing"->"Crossover".
9. Resolved the HDMI high bit-rate (HBR) audio loss issue with Yamaha RX-V673, V773, A820 and A1020 AV Receivers. Customers have reported that when sending DTS-HD Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD signals in "Bitstream" mode through HDMI to these Yamaha receivers, any signal interruption (resolution change, source selection, etc.) will cause Yamaha to display "Audio Decoder OFF" on the front panel and produce no sound from the speakers. This issue has been resolved.
10. Resolved a recently reported FLAC file playback issue. Some FLAC files made from the latest version of the EAC (Exact Audio Copy) software tool could not be played on the BDP-103/105 players. This issue has been resolved.
11. Improved the down-mixing algorithm for the BDP-105's headphone output. This results in better volume and sound staging when playing certain multi-channel audio sources.
  • This change takes advantage of the main audio DSP (digital signal processor) that is normally assigned to the multi-channel analog output. When headphones are connected, the multi-channel analog output is muted and the DSP is temporarily reconfigured for stereo down-mixing, and its output is routed to the headphone amplifier. Please do not try to adjust the player's audio processing settings while the headphones are plugged in, as these settings are only temporarily used and will be restored to the user's original settings when the headphones are removed.
12. Added a feature that allows the adjustment of the audio delay time within the range of -100ms to +100ms. This can be set in "Setup Menu"->"Audio Processing" -> "A/V Sync", and the delayed time will be applied to all output terminals including HDMI 1 and 2, Coaxial, Optical, and 7.1 outputs (including the Stereo outputs of the BDP-105).
  • The actual audio delay effect might be different for each of the output terminals due to the different audio process algorithms and signal paths used for each output. Please adjust this setting based on the actual output terminal in use.
  • The negative adjustment values are for cancelling out the audio delay that the player automatically applies. Depending on the video source and the time it takes to process the video, the main decoder chip automatically applies an audio delay in order to optimize audio video synchronization. It is not possible to put audio ahead of video using this setting.
  • For content sent through HDMI IN, the "A/V Sync" adjustment only works with positive values.
13. Resolved the brief audio pop issue found on the 7.1 and Stereo audio outputs.
15. Improved compatibility with some cable TV boxes, especially from Motorola. Customers have reported that HDMI handshake failures (such as blank green screens, flickering images, and frequent audio drops) could happen when these TV boxes were connected to the HDMI IN port (Front and Back). This issue has been significantly improved in this firmware. (We are aware of an occasional frame drop and audio/video synchronization issue that may still happen when accepting 480i, 576i or 1080i signals from certain cable boxes, and are working to resolve it in a future firmware version.)
16. Improved the support for large capacity external hard drives. The maximum size for a single partition can be up to 16 TB when using GPT partition table and NTFS or ExFAT file system.
17. Improved the digital audio compatibility with the Apple Airport Express (2nd Generation). Customers have reported that frequent audio dropouts were heard on BDP-105's analog audio outputs (both 7.1 and Stereo) when accepting a digital audio signal from the Airport Express 2's optical audio out. With this firmware, the audio dropouts have been eliminated or significantly reduced.
18. Removed a limitation in "Audio Processing"->"Speaker Configuration", that turns off the SBL and SBR speakers automatically when the Center speaker is set to "Off". However, if the SL and the SR speakers are set to "Off", the SBL and the SBR speakers will still be muted.
19. General disc compatibility improvement based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples.

Release Notes:

1. Resolved an issue where the player would slow down, and sometimes freeze entirely, when navigating files on USB connected hard drives. Several customers have reported this issue with their Western Digital external hard drives, and they had to power down the player then power it back on to restore its performance. This issue has been resolved.
2. Resolved an issue where a loud popping noise could be heard at the end of playing some WAV, MP3, and DSD music tracks.
3. Resolved an issue where accepting a cable television signal through the HDMI inputs might result in a black screen. Customers reported that if they kept changing the TV channels using the cable remote, sometimes they would only see a black screen on the TV, even though the audio was still ok. In order to restore the video, they had to force a HDMI handshake (changing the input source, hot-plug the HDMI cable, etc.).
4. Resolved a compatibility issue with certain DSD files.
5. Added support for the ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) audio format.
6. Added support for briefly displaying the current audio information on the player's front panel when switching audio tracks. Release Notes:
1. Resolved an audio dropout issue occurring with "Monsters University (BD, 2013)", related to its Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and 7.1 audio tracks when the player's HDMI Audio Format was set to Bitstream. We worked with Dolby and our decoder chip maker to address this type of audio dropouts.
2. Resolved an issue with Gapless Playback with several customer-encoded WAV files. It was caused by an additional “List” information segment presented in the WAV file Header, and we have added support for this segment so that Gapless Playback now functions properly with these files.
3. Resolved an issue where a brief static noise could be heard when streaming music from a computer running Mac OS X to the BDP-105's USB DAC input. It could happen when the music stream was paused for a few seconds and then resumed, and it could be heard through the analog audio outputs, including the 7.1, Stereo, and Headphone outputs. We improved the audio muting logic and have eliminated this static noise.
4. Resolved an issue where a brief static noise could be heard when playing SACD discs in DSD mode on the BDP-105. This burst of noise was audible at the beginning of a track or when switching to the next track. It could be heard through the analog audio outputs, including the 7.1 and Stereo ports. We improved the audio muting logic and have eliminated this static noise.
5. Resolved a compatibility issue between BDP-103/105's HDMI 1 Output to the McIntosh MX150/151 AV Processors. Users reported no audio when using this combination, so we added special instructions for these A/V processors in the HDMI handshake process. We highly recommend that you contact McIntosh Technical Support to upgrade your MX150/151 firmware to the latest version.
6. Added Gapless Playback support for FLAC files.
7. Added 24 Hz support for customer-encoded video files in 480P24 and 720P24 formats. The original frame rate can be preserved when upscaling the content to 1080p, e.g., when Resolution is set to 1080P, the 720P23.976 content is output as 1080P23.976, and 720P24 is output as 1080P24. Previously, these formats were frame-rate converted to 60 Hz.
8. Added an "INSTANT REPLAY" function to video playback. If the customer presses the AB REPLAY button twice (two presses within 1 second), video playback will be automatically rewound 10 seconds.
9. Added support for playing CUE files and DSD64 files (.DFF and .DSF) over DLNA. The DLNA server must support these formats as well. A new version of oShare DLNA server that provides these functions is available now, and can be downloaded here from SourceForge.net.

5. Resolved a compatibility issue with the available HDMI 2.0 input port on some Panasonic 4K TV, for example, the #4 HDMI port on TV model TC-L65WT600. This port contains additional Extended Display Identification Data (VSDB) blocks which caused our player to switch to DVI output mode and discard the audio packages, so there was no sound from the TV speakers. We added the support of the specific VSDB blocks and resolved the no sound issue.
7. Resolved the Wi-Fi connection failure with access points or routers using WEP security. This error was introduced by 67-1204 firmware and this version corrects it.
8. Resolved an audio truncation issue occurring with several DVD-Audio discs. Customers reported that the first note or two was cut off between track changes, and when the PREV button was used to restart the current track. Sample discs included "Queen: A Night At The Opera", "Buena Vista Social Club", "Beatles: Love" and "R.E.M.: New Adventures in Hi-Fi". This error was introduced by 67-1204 firmware and this version corrects it.
9. Resolved the playback failure with certain customer-encoded audio files in WAV, FLAC and AIFF formats. Symptoms included files being skipped, files being played with static noise, and files causing the player to freeze. The 67-1204 firmware adds more support to meta data tags in these files but encounters this problem if the meta data tags are in non-standard location. This version further improves the support for meta data tags and corrects the problem.
14. Added an "INSTANT REPLAY" function to video playback. If the customer presses the AB REPLAY button twice (two presses within 1 second), video playback will be automatically rewound 10 seconds.
15. Added support for playing CUE files and DSD64 files (.DFF and .DSF) over DLNA. The DLNA server must support these formats as well. A new version of oShare DLNA server that provides these functions is available now, and can be downloaded here from SourceForge.net.
16. Resolved a HDMI handshake failure when the OPPO's HDMI Output is connected to an A/V receiver, while the same receiver's HDMI output is fed back to the OPPO's HDMI input. We added special handling for this kind of "loop" connection and resolved the handshake failure. However, We highly recommend that you should not use this "loop chain" connection since it might cause unexpected HDMI handshake/CEC result, even cause electrical damage.
17. Added the indications on the front panel and the TV screen for DSD file (.dsf, .dff) playback. If DSD stream is output through HDMI, the "SACD" icon on the front panel will be lit and the TV screen shows “Track Type” as "DSD". If PCM stream is output, then both "SACD" and "PCM" icons on the front panel will be lit, and the TV screen shows “Track Type” as "DSD to PCM". In this way, the customer could know if DSD-to-PCM conversion is happening in the player.
18. General disc compatibility improvements based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples.

Loader Version: 6U1000 or 7B1300 (BDP-103), 7B1300 (BDP-105, BDP-105D, BDP-103D)
Sub Version: MCU103-05-0916 (BDP-103), MCU105-04-1113 (BDP-105), MCU13D-01-0618 (BDP-103D), MCU15D-01-0930 (BDP-105D), DB10X 131030 (BDP-103D, 105D)

1.Fixed a bug in calculating acoustic propagation delay from the "Speaker Distance" parameters of the "Speaker Configuration" setting.
2. Upgraded the Netflix application to the latest version certified for OPPO BDP-10x models. This version features a brand new user interface. It also contains improved adaptive streaming technology which will improve streaming quality for high-speed internet connections. The new Netflix application should help customers who have reported poor streaming quality during peak hours. (On a related note, recently customers reported that Netflix streaming on OPPO players and other streaming devices could become unstable with error message like "not connect to internet". In our experience this issue is not caused by the player or its firmware update. It could be either a server-side problem or an Internet traffic problem. Should this happen to your device, please report the outage to Netflix. Netflix recommends a troubleshooting method of de-activating the device and re-activating it. De-activation can be done from the OPPO player’s setup menu (Setup -> Device Setup -> Netflix -> De-activate). Re-activation can be done by accessing the Netflix application from the Home Menu. In most cases, Netflix service can resume working after a few tries. The new Netflix application in this update contains additional network troubleshooting tool which can be used to test your connection to Netflix servers.)
3. Added the "Digital Concert Hall" application from Berliner Philharmoniker, which provides live and recorded classical music concerts in HD video from leading orchestras all over the world. Removed the "Film Fresh" application which is no longer functional due to the service provider stopping the service.
4. Improved Gapless Playback performance. Resolved issues such as the second track playing twice before moving to the third track, and resolved an issue where the Gracenote information could not be fetched when playing WAV files.
5. Resolved an issue where user settings (Size, Distance, Trim) inside the Speaker Configuration were incorrectly applied to the Headphone Out signal route. We revised the algorithm in this firmware and the Headphone Out signal is no longer affected by the Speaker Configuration changes.
6. Added a safety feature for BDP-103/103D: the "SACD Output" format is set to "PCM" by default. The reason is that the digital-to-analog converter (DAC) used on these two models cannot adjust the volume for DSD signals, so the analog volume level could automatically switch back to 100 when a DSD stream is detected. This safety feature will force the DSD stream to be decoded as a PCM stream before sending it to the DAC, which can help control the volume when loading SACD disc(s).
7. Added support for the "4Kx2K@50/60Hz" resolution to the BDP-103D/105D (HDMI 1 only, and in YCbCr 4:2:0 format only). The "4Kx2K Output" setting for the BDP-103D/105D is set to "Auto 4K 50/60Hz 4:2:0" by default.
8. Resolved an issue of “Reset Factory Defaults” not erasing the user account for the Youtube Leanback application.
9. Resolved an "A/V Sync" related issue where the A/V Sync data was not be automatically applied to the Coaxial and Optical digital audio outputs after the player was powered on.
10. Improved the file sorting algorithm for the media center (the Music, Photo and Movie options on the Home Menu). The player can automatically detect numbers located at the beginning or end of the filenames and sort the files by the numeric value. Albums with numbered tracks will play in the proper order.
11. Extended support for the PCM audio format for up to 24-bit, 352.8 kHz / 384 kHz via the USB DAC IN port (BDP-105D only).
12. Added the timing adjustment for external subtitles. This can be accessed from the "Option" menu -> "Subtitle Adj." -> "Sync." when playing movies from a USB flash drive or external hard drive.
13. A new version of the Windows driver for the USB Audio DAC is available for download here (v2.22). It is compatible with BDP-105, 105D and the upcoming headphone amplifier HA-1. Please uninstall the previous version(s) of the OPPO USB DAC driver from your computer before installing this new one.

I spend a lot of time last night and this morning listening to 2 channel audio, CD, FLAC, and hi-res FLAC sources. I've found something that really bothers me and I'm wondering if there is a way I can stop it. Besides simply unplugging my rear channel speakers, which is what I've done now.

The 103 is putting some ambient static/pink noise in the read channels when I am listening to a 2 channel audio source. How can I stop this? I'm not sure if it is purposely funneling the noise in the tracks to the rear speakers, or if it is somehow trying to create an ambient sound behind my listening position, but it is absolutely atrocious and ruins the entire 2 channel listening experience. Is there a way I can stop this from happening, or is this for some reason normal operation from the Oppo? When I stop the track, all speakers are dead silent. It is something in the way the Oppo is processing the sound. For now I have had to just unplug my read speakers when listening to 2 channel audio. This is not a long term solution.

I currently have an 83 and a Sony 790 for 3D but I am thinking of getting a 103 to replace them both. I love the 83 but noticed some newer films like The Amazing Spider-Man does not play of my 83 and yes I have the latest firmware. The Sony played it perfectly an loaded very fast.

I don't mind spending $500 as long as it is worth it, anyone else experience or change for other models to the 103? And if so was it worth it?

The addition of the Rhapsody service to the Oppo in the new public beta is a welcome feature. The quality of the stream whilst playing classical music selections appears to be a cut above what's obtainable on Pandora.

And I would say the BDP-93 is clearly better with DVDs than the BDP-103, not based on memory but comparing them side by side (having them both at the moment, but soon returning the BDP-103).

Apparently, there is no objective answer to the question which of Oppo's players is most suited for DVD playback.

Is the latest beta installed on your BDP-103? If not, then I respectfully disagree with you that the BDP-93 is better than the BDP-103 as it relates to DVD playback.

Thanks, I watch 100% blurays as I do not own any DVDs and don't listen to music in the theater room. I went ahead and ordered it and it will be here tomorrow (love amazon prime) I will move the Sony to the family room and sell off the 83.

I want to thank everyone for their input:)

and to quote BAKERWI :

We shouldn’t put so much faith in the SUBJECTIVE PREFERENCE of others.  I take the novel approach of auditioning audio/video equipment in my setup and environment and then make a decision.

I take this approach on all my purchases and frequent the various threads to see if there is a consensus to the performance of said product and for technical assistance to help me extract everything I can out the the product.
What I find most enjoyable are my fellow forum members who state their subjective preference as some sort of a benchmark yay or nay on a product.
You know the occasional "it blows it away" or "it's night and day".
Too many look for validation of their purchase decisions.

Not enough information here.

For starters, how is your player connected, and to what? Odds are high that this issue is related to your AVR, not the player.

Use of the Roku Streaming Stick is not going to be all that great a test of this, as that device does not offer the ability to output SD resolutions or interlaced content.

Set as you would normally set it for use with the OPPO, the Roku Streaming Stick will output 1080p for 1080p input streams and 720p for EVERYTHING ELSE. (While using the Roku, you can bring up the on-screen Info display of the 103/105 to see exactly what's coming in from it for video and audio.)

So the Roku is doing all the heavy lifting itself.

For this and other reasons, I recommend you use the NATIVE apps that come with the player instead of the versions on the Roku stick -- i.e., use the native Netflix app instead of the Roku Netflix app.

Obviously for apps that are only available on the Roku stick, use the ones on the Roku stick.

(There are no similar issues regarding audio from the stick.)

For cable and satellite TV boxes, ideally you would set the box to output "native" resolution -- i.e., what it sends out matches what is coming in for the program you are currently watching.

There have been reports here that the DISH box can not be set to do that. I don't know whether that's true or not -- I presume it may vary depending on which specific DISH device you have.

If true, that would mean to get the "best" imaging you would need to manually switch the DISH box's output to 480i, 720p, or 1080i, depending on the particular channel you are watching at the moment.

I've tested 1080i HDMI input using calibration discs played on a Blu-ray player, and the 103/105 handle de-interlacing of such input to the same high standard that happens when you play Blu-ray discs that have 1080i/60 content on disc (e.g., "live concert" discs and the like).

The main problem with the HDMI Inputs right now is audio / video sync. OPPO Engineering is on the case.

I don't think any DISH STBs or DVRs offer native passthrough, would be nice if they did but I don't believe any do. I never watch SDTV (480i) so a non-issue. I'm mostly concerned about what the Oppo can do when fed 1080i from the DISH Hopper, how significant a difference the BDP-103 scales it to 1080p vs. display device converting 1080i to 1080p, was hoping to hear from owners who have tried the test with a STB or DVR outputting 1080i to an HDMI input of the BDP-103 and comparing it setup this way and setup directly to display device.

It is true, Dish does not have Native, only Directv. With Dish youd have to go into the menu every time and change resolution.

Ive tried 720p channels converted to 1080i by the Broadcom and then sent to the Oppo, which then converts to 1080p, vs sending 720p out of the DVR to the Oppo for a 1080p conversion. IMO, 720p channels look great either way (Tested on things like Fringe). So, I personally won't be changing the resolution on Dish each time I change a channel, but I will continue to let the Oppo handle whatever comes out of the DVR and send 1080p/60 to my display.

I have a Dish Hopper install today, so Ill be curious to see how it plays with the Oppo.

This is good point. I consider the 103 as still being in development and it will only get better through future firmware updates. The 83 on the other hand is pretty much done and is a static piece of equipment at this point.

I have questions regarding the Crossover and Dynamic Range Control.

The Crossover, the default is set to 80Hz, I changed to 40Hz because I have Large speakers all around. Even my center speaker is Large. So I wanted to get a fuller sounds for all my 5 Large speakers.

These settings in the Oppo only affect the analog outputs. If you are getting your sound via HDMI, coax, or Toslink, those settings in the Oppo do nothing.

Thanks, will tell the wife tonite to break out the credit card with the extended warantee.

Opp's better change that to ask,

I can't ask, because the answer is always `No!'. So I buy, and tell later. Then when told to send it back, my answer is always - `Do you know how much this will cost to send it back?!'

Happy with my 93 - for now!

DVD performance is still being changed on the -103, as noted in the recent release notes.

-Bill

Is there a DVD problem with the 10/18 and/or original firmware? Does it affect all 103's on all discs?

edit: nvrmnd...just read the notes and it appears that the problem is limited to the recent beta (which I have not installed).

the oppo 93 was also in still being in development and not ready ready. it took a least 6 months to a year before they got it mostly working better. it has gotten alot better. have to work on a bit of patience. I had gotten the oopo 83 a bit later, I cannt say for sure about that. I got the oppo 93 on first day in november of 2010. its been a great run ever since.

I don't recall any specific recommendations or tests, but you might ask in the Media Server forum.

Although it is working for me at the moment, wireless N is said to be inadequate for HD video. The next standard is still in development. When I need to research NAS and routers I start here: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/

Last time I checked (SMB over wireless) an AVCHD/BDMV title was peaking to 35Mbs. I don't doubt some go higher. There is BR spec thread here that shows these details.

-Bill

Thanks Bill ...that was the website i got my original benchmarks from. I have seen burst bit-rates as high as 45Mb/s on my Oppo95 so at least i'd need a NAS with an average htroughput of 50Mb/s or more.

Just to add to Bill's comments, I have used both a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo (v1, with Twonky installed) and a Synology DS212j (with the Synology Media Player package installed) to stream BR backups to my Oppo via a wired gigabit network. Even the old Duo had plenty of bandwidth for HD video streaming so you will be able to use just about any current NAS successfully to stream as long as your network is configured correctly. Between Netgear and Synology it's a no-brainer, IMHO, with Synology having the far, far superior user interface and setup.

Yeah, Synology has the highest of bitrates but i've read that they are unreliable, based off reviews off Amazon. It's claimed (by some) that they die off quickly (power supplies mostly) and tech support is poor, so that kind of scared me off them. I hope their experience was uncommon but overall i hope i'm wrong on this one. Thanks for the Synology recommendation, I'm drooling over their insanely high data rates
!

Can you connect a DVD player to the 103? There are 2 HDMI inputs on the 103. I have another DVD player and would like to know if you can connect it to the 103 by using an HDMI cable.

If yes, will the picture quality improve through the 103?
Why would you want to do that when you can play DVD's with the 103?

Ok nvm just got my oppo 103 so excited!! So I hooked it up first with hdmi 1 to tv and hdmi 2 to reciever, I'm getting awseome picture but for some reason the sound keeps cutting in and out. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I've tried using just one hdmi straight to the receiver but my tv can't pick up the signal.
