I have a Panasonic BDT 220 connected to a Harmon Kardon AVR2650 receiver that is connected to an EPSON 3010 projector. Why I am getting a bands on the top and the bottom of my 16:9 120" screen?

I have setup my blu ray player and avr2650 receiver for 16:9 and am playing a new Hunger Games Blue ray disc

Welcome to AVS. Mods ask that all questions go in the appropriate player thread. Your question has been discussed extensively. Search aspect ratio. It is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. Hunger Games is 2.35 aspect ratio.

Please read up here on aspect ratios:

Welcome to AVS. I'll ask that if you have any follow up questions on this BR model you should post in the thread that teachsac was nice enough to link.

But relative to your real question, as teachsac pointed out you are seeing a movie filmed in scope (2.35 or some near configuration) on your screen which is 16x9. To show the entire 2.35 image on a 16x9 screen, you have to "letterbox" the image or add black bars. This is a common question for those new to the hobby. As you can imagine been covered with litterally 100's of threads throughout AVS for over a decade that we've been around. So I'll ask that you use google to research more about aspect ratio's. Here' are some links

Here are a couple of good sites explaining the different Aspect Ratio's
