Thanks mmmwwmm. I tried your suggestions:
1. switch off pure
2. swapping cables and output ports
3. I could not locate "video resolution" button on remote. I tried changing the resolutions through the menu

I also tried swapping cables; swapping ports; updating firmware; hard reset (pushing up & down buttons on front panel and power on receiver until u see the display lights flash 4 times)

still no luck. Denon support wants me to ship the unit to them. Unfortunately, thats not an option now since I am out of the country (with my receiver) for another 6 weeks

Video resolution button it's the left button in the lower row in the remote.
Just a last thing to try. Unplug ALL cables (HDMI, HDlink, RCAs power cord, etc) in the 3313, leave unplugged for 5mins and then plug again all the cables and try it. Denon receivers and blurays needs this kind of soft reset from time to time to avoid "strange" issues.

Good luck!

I forgot to say that if you have a Denon receiver too try this kind of soft reset in the receiver too. I.e. Unplug ALL cables (except passive speakers) I mean subwoofer, bluray, ethernet, triggers, HDMIs, AC wall, etc etc. And leave unplugged at least for 5min.

Good luck!

Any news on a 2014 model? I thought these came out every 2 years.

65" VT50 / Oppo 103D
Denon 4520CI / Emotiva XPA-3

Nothing was mentioned at CEDIA about a new blu-ray player from Denon. Maybe their next model will be a 4K Blu-ray player in 2015.

Well that's not cryptic at all!!!

The european changelog file says:

Quote:
14.10.2014
HQ 9304
The correction of the trouble of the video streaming service.
Hmmm, I am not sure what to say to that!

Safe firmware update foe DVD region free

Just a FYI for anyone DVD region free (I've not bothered with BR-region free), I let the unit upgrade the firmware and it didn't break the region free. Unfortunately, I only let it upgrade because bitstream over DLINK for Netflix and Vudu recently stopped working and we'd just rented a Vudu movie for impatient kids. I later tried the 5min unplug reset and it's still only passing audio from the streaming services as PCM. Next step, the hard reset.

I just realised the instructions above were for the AVR. No idea how to hard reset the BDP-3313, maybe just unplugging is the only option. The bitstream issue might be an issue with my X4000 AVR as I recently had an issue where the "Network" functions all stopped working. I really dont want to reset the AVR and set everything up again.

Hi All,

my very lovely DBT-3313UD started playing up last night: this started after inserting the new 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3D' bluray: the player refused to play the content (no pic/sound was sent to the amp) and got stuck. Never happened before with any blu-ray / 3D content. From then on trying different sources (cd/sacd/DVD/BluRay) all didn't work. When the player boots up, it immediately goes into 'pure direct 1' and from then on refuses to respond to remote control. There is no time to do a reset via the remote in the menu.

Is there a way to perform a hardware or microprocessor reset?

I tried the 'remove all cables and leave it off electricity over night' but no avail.

Ideas appreciated.

the only two reset methods are unplugging it or reset via remote.... sadly I think you are going to have to have it worked on.

That's what I feared.

Thank you for the response, see what Denon will come up with.

That's the second Denon piece of kit breaking down in 3 months....

major bummer. I've had the oppo 103, Marantz ud5007 (still own) and the denon dbt3313. I much prefer the soft image of denon's custom mediatek solution.

Hi, there's good and bad news:

Good news: you can hardware reset the player (see picture).

Bad news: it didn't work on mine.

J_sunne, I just tried to reset the region code to "0" but am unable to navigate once I access the Factory Page. Can you please provide additional instruction on changing the code once in the Factory Page. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Just tried a region 1 DVD in my 3313UD and it won't play. So tried a region 1 BD and wouldn't play. Tried the files posted in this thread and they work for BD which is great. And pressing setup 3265 shows the region change for BD.<br>

I've been looking for some time but no luck. I've not seen any confirmation of a unit where the end user could switch DVD region without having purchased it supplied already multi region. A dealer in the UK supplied the bulk of the region free models you'll see in various forums. I only had a handful of Region 2 DVDs and used AnyDVD Cloner (lots of other software can do the same) to directly re-author without a region. The DBT-3313 is outputting PAL DVDs as 1080/50p which I was pleasantly surprised to find my Samsung display (UN55F7100) handles fine.<br><br>
EDIT: I stand corrected courtesy of some great members. Both Blu Ray and DVD region can be changed by the end user with this unit.

I had the exact same issue with Guardians of the Galaxy 3-D last night. Player simply would not play it. I have an Oppo in another room in my house and it played fine on that.

Similarly I've had multiple issues with the Denons lately - the Oppo was purchased to replace a DBT-1713 that had real trouble playing old DVDs and some Blu-rays. I always make sure I have the latest firmware so that wasn't the issue. I just got fed up - and have had no problems with the Oppo.

So after the Guardians problem on the 3313 last night I tried those problematic DVDs in it - and sure enough, they had the same problem as I experienced with the 1713. They just would not play. Front display just reads "ROOT".

This is troubling on many levels - both Denon players are at the slightly over 2 years old mark and both broke down the exact same way. Very frustrating. I am a Denon lover, have the AVR-4520 in my theater and the AVR-4311 in my living room system. Both of these are upgrades over several other Denons I've owned over the years so I am a longtime fan.

What has happened? Players at this cost level shouldn't break down after 2 years. Very disappointing, not to mention the $$$$ I've had to lay out.

I know what you mean. I have a Denon AVR-5200 and am eyeing it suspiciously. I actually shelled out the extra cash for the 5200 because it was built in Japan and the built quality apparently is better than the chinese factory Denon/Marantz contract.

If you pay >1000 bucks for your AV gear, you really shouldn't have to worry about built quality.

really odd... had no issues with GOTG in 3d on my unit, or any other new releases... might want to try a newer hdmi cable. I doubt it's the issue, but on a 2yr+ old unit, it may be worth a shot.

Hi,

I just bought an AVR 4520 second hand, and I'd like a new blu ray player as well (got one of the very first sony blu ray players). I considered the Denon DBT 3313 UD, but as it is getting kinda "old" now, do you think it would be a bad idea to purchase this model? Would I be better off waiting for a refresh, or getting another brand?

IMHO it's still the best player available. The custom Mediatek solution is an awesome picture. I found it to be superior to both the Oppo 103 and the Marantz UD5007. If you have a large collection of DVDs, it has an even larger advantage since it does such a killer job with standard DVD picture.

Having said that - know what you are buying. If you get a new in box unit, I think you have nothing to worry about, but will probably over pay. If you buy a used unit, I think you are missing out on some hardware revisions.

I've owned two units - one purchased new, that had absolutely no issues whatsoever, but was also manufactured in '14. The used unit I bought was manufactured in '12. While I've had no major issues with it (and I use the latest firmware), it does act a little goofy sometimes. It can sometimes take two power cycles to wake up if I shut it off with a disc in it... I can't think of another example, but they are there. Just little bugs you can tell they could not eliminate with a firmware update, but obviously did eliminate with hardware revisions on the line.

The Denon HD Link is a nice touch with your 4520. Knowing all that, both the players I mentioned are a very close second. Hope that helps.

Many thanks for your reply If I decide to buy it, it will most likely be purchased as new (no used units available at the moment where I live). Have you tried Denon HD Link?

My main concern is actually if 4k projectors and 4k blu ray is going to get accessible in 1-2 years - by accessible (for me), I mean a projector at around half the price of a Sony VPL-HW300. However, I'm not sure if that is going to happen or if it will be more like 3-4 years from now..

I had an older DBP 4010 that I had hooked up to my A100 via Denon Link. At first it worked then it exhibited issues playing discs. At first I go an exchange from my dealer, then that one acted up. So of it went to Denon for repair. 2mths later it comes back to me, with the same issues. Luckily since I bought most of my gear from my dealer he gave me a full refund of the unit, even though I had it for 8mths(minus 2 for repair). Is this a common issue with Denon's not playing some discs? I've never had an issue with any other player I had.

Hi all,

I'm very interested in the DVD region free hack for the Denon DBT-3313. Could anyone please provide me with some information?

Thanks a lot!

Anyone Have a Crestron Module For DBT3313?

Just wondering if any of you have a working module that has full control of the DBT-3313? I have partial control using a module written for the DVD-2500BT/3800BDCi. Was hoping to avoid having to write my own.

Already checked the usual Yahoo group and the Crestron Partner Module app site. Thanks!

Hi there,
I picked up a DBT3313 the other day. Very excited to try this player out.

I have read about the USB stick method of changing Blu-ray regions on this player. Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,
Mike

I've been chopping and changing players recently. Had this unit, then sold it for the Oppo 103D. Sold that for a Marantz UD7007 and then down to a Pioneer 170 and finally a Pioneer 450. Nothing satisfied for one reason or another so I've just ordered another 3313. Hopefully it will be mature love second time around. It's the best built of all those I mentioned.
