Thanks man. I think I'm going to order one.

How would you rate the YouTube experience overall?

Yes it supports device pairing and supports the very latest lean back YT interface found on lots of devices, e.g tivo. Sideview also supports search.

Overall the YT experience is greatly improved over previous versions.

Note the s790 still has the old style interface. The Sony hx750 tv just got a firmware update where they added the new YT interface so its possible they add it to the s790 as its still current .... But who knows. Sony works in strange ways.

?????

Sorry - I dont understand what you are saying.

I have aleeady a usb 2.0 Seagate 500 GB external harddisk drive to my Sony bdp s5100.

So - you mean I have to buy me another external harddisc drive ??

I need TWO - 2 - USB drives to be able to run BD live -
one in front usb in addition to my Seagate 500 gig in the back usb port??

My guess would be so its:

A: Out of sight cause your gonna leave it in there for moving watching so you don't want it sticking out of the front panel USB port like an eyesore
B: Leave the front USB port open for temporary USB use like pics or songs

I got these Cruzer Fit USB flash drives to use with my S5100 players in the rear USB port. BD-Live works great with them in the rear port. BD Live won't work with them in the front USB port.

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-SDCZ33-008G-B35-Flash-Drive/dp/B005FYNSUA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1366552131&sr=8-3&keywords=cruzer+fit

They are extremely small. They were only around $8 for the 8GB ones.

This is another reason I like the S5100 over the PAnny BDT220. You can't use the rear USB port for anything except a camera in the Panny.

Just ordered a 5100, will have Tuesday. I'm looking at selling the OPPO, not leaving discs but want something with great streaming AQ and PQ.

My main plan is to use Netflix, Amazon Prime and Vudu HDX. The Samsung 7500 is on my list but I'm going to try the cheaper model first. If its anything like the 790 (I had for a short period) was at streaming, I should be quite happy.

Two questions:

Will a sandisk cruzer fit 4 GB USB drive be a good choice for the back memory expansion?

I assume the proper preset picture mode is called normal or standard?

Dear sweet Christ, I rented Avengers tonight using my new sony BDP-BX510 blu ray player through my Yamaha HTR-5930 5.1 DTS system I've had for years and the movie when it got to an action damn near blew out my surround system sub woofer because of the insane amount of bass that came out of nowhere because I had to raise the volume to be able to hear people speak.

Either the movie on the disc has some REALLY weird balance issues that required me to basically disable my subwoofer or the fact that blue ray has some type of audio code that raises the volume level, I had to crank my system way down and put the speakers in straight more less I piss off every single neighbor in my apt complex by keeping it in surround sound mode.

What the hell gives with Blue Ray discs that would throw my normally balanced 5.1 system for Xbox 360 optical sound usage completely out of whack like this that damn near turned my apt to an earthquake?

Did you bitstream the Master HD 7.1 track? This disc sounded great in my home, but I have a denon and that was on an oppo. I have noticed 7.1 lossless tracks tend to require more volume on a non 7.1 system.

Ok so it looks like you hook up through optical no? I looked up your AVR and its an older model that doesnt do the HD audio codecs.......As far as audio mixes go every mix will be different and you may need to re adjust your settings of your audio equpment. I would suggest boosting teh center channel rather than turning teh volume all the way up, this way you are less likely to experience what you did....

The BX510 doesn't have optical output, Digital coaxial only. What is this downmixing I keep hearing about also if you don' t have an HD reciever

You are correct I apologize, downmixing means that the 5011 is taking the lossless track that is on the Blu-ray and down mixing to DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1 so that your AVR can decode and play the audo

Hi 1ceTr0n, see if it helps by enabling Dynamic Volume or Night Mode (if the receiver have this setting).

Do you have dog?

There is a most very irritating "feature" of 5100
- some kind of Power saving that turns it OFF after some 30 mins.

When Im walking the dog, it takes approx 24 mins, that shorter walk in the nights.
And when I get back, the 5100 is off, and I have to crank up again the film. On The Hobbit, no problem, because 5100 remembers where it left / turn. On others, like Prometheus, it dont, I have to wade through a lot of scenes frown.gif

My 790 doesnt have this power off , it stays on.

How do I disable this power off feature ??

Just another curious quick question, as I did not purchase my S51000 yet due to $$ reasons.

Is the 3D picture on this going to look any different than the 3D picture on a PS3, or will it be virtually the same?

Aaaah !

Sorry, I was thinking about my dogwalking !

My Sony 790 has this setting:

Auto standby on / off
Turn off after 30 min of inactivity.

The very first I did when I bought the player, was setting this to off ( due to my dog)

The Sony 5100 has no such setting
It simply turns off after 30 mins, no questions asked ;(

Another somewhat big difference between these players!

I had another question I was wondering about as well...

Has anyone played a regular DVD on the S5100 on a large screen before? I am curious how the HD upscaling on a DVD actually looks compared to a blu-ray.

I've recently realized there are quite a few older movies that are DVD only that I would like to own, and I doubt they are going to come out on blu-ray any time soon. I'm just wondering though how the quality will look on my 120" screen even when they are upscaled, as I have no experience with upscaling dvds at all.

If your receiver can do HDMI audio, why on earth would you use coax?

It gets the most out of DVD's and Blu in my experience compared to a few diff players and PS3 I've owned. Outside of the Dolby decoding it seems solid and capable for sure.

It is identical, except the BX510 comes with an HDMI cable. It was $119.99 at my Costco, if memory serves.

I'm probably doing something stupid, but I'm having problems in using the TV Sideview app on my iPad (running IOS 6.1.3). I have no problems in getting the Ipad to showing as a Registered Remote Device for the BDP-S5100, but when further configuring the app, it gets to the TV service provider screen [even though it is only BD player!], I enter the Zip code and it then goes to "Please Select Your TV service provider" and cannot find anything...

It displays a message that it cannot retrieve the information, and I'm stuck... Obviously since it's just a BD player and not a Sony TV, the questions on TV service provider are not particularly relevant, but I would like to use it as a remote control, as advertised.

Thanks in advance, Mike
