I've never seen it work in that direction. I don't think it's possible.

So do the opposite I what I said before, turn on HDMI control in the sony and viera link in your TV. If that doesn't do it, you're out of luck.

You can get a remote to fully control both for $13 most places, the RCA RCRP05BR.

Sony still won't do divx AVI's, only xvid, right?

He just said AVI. The vast majority of my AVI's are divx, so I just assume it's similar for others. I know I was a bit miffed when I couldn't play divx AVI's when every disc player I had the previous 10 years or so would.

So are egg cartons. But most of them contain white eggs (divx) and only a few contain brown (xvid).

Hey Sony, if you are reading this, PLEASE FIX PANDORA'S SCREEN SAVER............You know, like it was before you upgraded it and broke it. Those of us that don't like image retention on our 3K TVs WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

I notice sometimes in the Sony network menu there looks to be some sort of interference. Almost like static, but when I play a movie it goes away. The bluray player is the Sony 5100 and the Receiver is the Pioneer 1222k. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone confirm how the 5100 handles the Netflix Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 streams? I have a Marantz SR7001 receiver which is HDMI 1.2, so no decoding of Dolby Digital Plus, but it does accept LPCM 5.1/7.1. Will the 5100 decode the DD+ Netflix audio to LPCM 5.1? I hope so. I'm trying to figure out a way to get 5.1 from Netflix, and I'm hoping this player my be the ticket.

The player is able to convert the DD 5.1 to multi channel 5.1 PCM for booth disks and streaming content. Whether it uses dd+ or just dd I don't know but chances are you won't be able to hear the difference anyway.

The run from the player to the Receiver is only 10 feet. Is Deep Color an option in the 5100's home menu?

It's just weird to me. As soon as a disc loads it goes away and everything is clean. But when I'm on the player's home page or browsing the internet through the player it's static city.

can you try another channel? connect the hdmi to the reciever to another channel like instead of hdmi2 try hdmi 3. I think the blu-ray might be the one to blame though, because when movie works all other systems work as intended. How long have you had this player?

You either have a faulty player or faulty HDMI cable. I'd try different HDMI cable first. And don't forget you have two HDMIs cables, one from receiver to TV, one from player to receiver. 10 feet means you are using a rather long HDMI cable. So quality really matters on long cable runs.

As for BD movie vs normal use, it could be that you have enabled 24p mode and majority of BD movies are 24p. 1080p @ 24p requires much less bandwidth than 1080p @ 60p. Also, a common recommendation is turn off deep color to save HDMI bandwidth even more so that a less optimum HDMI cable can handle it.

... or a faulty receiver.

You can try several things to narrow it down (player direct to TV, different cable, update AVR firmware).

That's great to hear. I just don't want Netflix DD+ streams downmixed to stereo. I want them converted to LPCM 5.1.

Blu-ray Player - Sony BDP-S3100

Wireless Router - Linksys EA6500

No issues connecting Blu-ray player to the primary wireless network.

Decided to switch Blu-ray player to the guest network last night, worked fine.

Tried to use the Blu-ray player today, no longer connected to guest network.

Will no longer allow me to connect Blu-ray player to guest network.

Connects to the primary network just fine.

Any ideas?

I hooked up the player straight to the projector and zero static so its either the hdmi to the Agra or the Agra itself.

My older players, like the s590 and s780 still have the older nicer working app.

I don't have the resign-in issue, but I agree with everything else. Sony completely screwed Pandora up, and the app is terrible in every way. I use Pandora more than I do Blu-rays and had I of known this, I never would've bought the Sony. Very disappointing.

Hi all...an old newby here,

There's a new Panasonic ST series screen wending its way to my lair as I type!  And, following tomorrow, a Sony S5100 blu ray player.

Although 3D isn't foremost on my mind, I have just begun to realize, through posts here and there, that my Yamaha RX-V665 receiver with it's HDMI 1.3a isn't going to play well with HDMI 1.4 3D surround audio.  (How did we let those movie moguls gain so much power?)

One route that several have said will work is to use a blu ray player with two HDMI outs, with one going to video and the other to audio.  I'm wondering if I should have ponied up the extra $110 for the Sony S790 which has two HDMI outs.

But the S5100 has a coaxial audio output.  Ive searched Hi and Lo to try to discover

(1) if the S5100 outputs audio through the coaxial simultaneously with video from the HDMI, and

(2) if it does, will that audio be in either 5.1 or 7.1?  Or will it be limited to LR stereo only? (I've noticed that another player works that way)

If both these are true, then I could put up with the occasional manual switching of HDMI cables to hear surround with 3D blu rays.  But, if not, I'm wondering if I should return the S5100 unopened and opt for the S790...or another dual HDMI blu ray player?  Or another option I'm not considering?  I'm pretty sure splitting the HDMI with hardware won't work.  I'm not crazy about doing this because a) the 790 is costlier, and b) the S5100 is probably a slightly better player otherwise.

If any of you who have an S5100 can answer this, that would be great!  I"ve searched here, elsewhere online, and even looked through the online S5100 manual without finding a clear answer.

Thanks,

Uncle Q

Unfortunately, that's not movie studio's call. In order to pass Full HD 3D video, not audio, through HDMI, the spec needs to be updated to recognize the new format, 1080p packed frame 3D video that the old HDMI 1.3 hardware had no idea what that was.

Yes, all BD players can do that.

It depends on how the audio settings are. But at best you will get lossy 5.1 DD or DTS. No 7.1, no lossless. You will never get 7.1 or lossless surround from it. That's why we need dual-HDMI output or HDMI 1.4 AVR. HDMI is the only way to carry lossless HD Audio up to 7.1.

(1) if the S5100 outputs audio through the coaxial simultaneously with video from the HDMI, and
Yes, all BD players can do that.

(2) if it does, will that audio be in either 5.1 or 7.1?  Or will it be limited to LR stereo only? (I've noticed that another player works that way)
It depends on how the audio settings are.

But don't forget that the lossy DD and DTS audio on Blu-ray discs is provided at a substantially higher bitrate than what is provided on DVDs. For example, the lossy DD audio stream provided on DVDs usually is either about 200 or 400Kbits/sec, while Blu-ray lossy DD is about 600Kbits/sec. (Sorry, I'm too lazy to look up their exact bitrates right now. A Web search will find them for you.) Many people are unable to distinguish the difference between lossless and high-bitrate lossy.
