Hi - quick question.

I have a Yamaha HTR-5063 which indicates 3D playback - from Yamaha:

"Yamaha receivers displaying this icon support 3D HDMI pass-through from 3D-compatible Blu-ray Disc, game and broadcast devices to 3D-compatible HDTVs. 3D provides a more engaging audio and video consumer experience when using 3D-capable products and 3D media content. Note that special eyewear may be required for viewing 3D content."

The receiver is connected directly to the Panasonic 51" 3D Plasma TV (indicates 3D ready) (Model: PN51D550C1FXZA).

All my components then connect in the the AVR.

However, my blu-ray player (a Samsung, but I do not know the model number) is NOT 3D capable.

I am wondering - because my AVR supports 3d and everything is hooked up through 3D capable-HDMI cables, do I need a 3D blu-ray player to view 3D blu-ray movies? The blu-ray player should send everything to my AVR and then - does my AVR process the 3D disc for 3D viewing even though the blu-ray player is not 3D capable?

Do I have to buy a new 3D capable blu-ray player if my AVR has 3D HDMI pass-through from 3D-compatible disc?

I know I will need compatible 3D glasses for my 3D TV which I plan to get.

Any advice/answers? TIA.

Matt

Yes. You need a 3D capable Blu-ray player. For suggestions on which one, please post in the Help Me Choose a Player thread:

Thank you for clarifying that. I do have a Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu-ray Disc Player hooked up to another TV (a bit inconvenient to switch, but I would do it if this particular 3d blu-ray player would be comptible and be compatible with all of the features my AVR and TV support.

So my set up would be:

Samsumg 51" 3D Plasma TV (Model: PN51D550C1FXZA) (I incorrectly indicated it was Panasonic below)

A Yamaha HTR-5063 AVR : (http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-HTR-5063BL-630-Watt-Channel-Receiver/dp/B003CP0KGY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1359474548&sr=1-1&keywords=htr-5063)

and the 3D blu-ray player: Sony-BDP-S570-Blu-ray-Disc-Player

I know the blu ray player is old (about 2-3 years, I think) and probably a bit outdated - is there any advantage to upgrading to a new one? Also, will there be any issues using a Song BR player with a Samsung Plasma TV?

Thanks again....

No problems hooking up the Sony. It'll work just fine. Mods ask that further questions be directed to the S570 player thread:

or the help me choose if you decide to go another route.

Your AVR doesn't do jack for 3D. All it does is pass through the FullHD 3D video to its output, e.g. HDMI 1.4 compatible. All the heavey lifting of 3D playback is on your BD player which must be a 3D player.

There is no special requirement for HDMI cable either.

That is good to know. So I assume the Sony 3D blu-ray player will be okay with the Samsung Plasma TV?
