I hooked up an old sony bd player and confirmed the sound passed correctly (it did). I then reconnected the bd89 turned bitstream off and on again and now it works... who knows.

Two Towers disc 2 audio dropouts

My daughter decided to do a LOTR EE rewatch on BD. All was OK until disc 2 of TT. It had random audio dropouts. It got so bad that we switched to a PS3 slim. It played the disc fine. I have a 230 and audio set to bitstream. I've never had any issues with the disc or the player until today. The disc was free of fingerprints. I hope it is not disc rot.

Any ideas?

Panasonic bdt 330 firmware

Sorry to start a new thread but the other is old,I'm trying to do a firmware update for my Panasonic 330 thru the internet and can't get it to work,it says I'm connected but when I try to update it says there's no internet connection,I know the Pany is a older model but I'm having trouble with drop outs on one disk, Deep water Horizon thought a update would help maybe.

No update for the 330 ever eliminated the audio dropouts. It was something in the chipset itself. What firmware are you on? There hasn't been a new one released in years. You can directly download them from the Panasonic support page.

That was a problem with those first mediatec chipsets. I remember reading about dropouts with the S790, also. Can't remember how many I had. My Oppo 93 has audio dropouts, also, on certain discs that over utilize seamless branching (i.e. Disney). I remember watching Monsters U on both the 93 and the 330. Both had the dropouts. The Panasonic x20 series and earlier that utilize the uniphier chipset do not suffer from the dropouts.

Pretty much any player released after that year works fine.

The 20 series was the year before the 30 series.

BDT330 wont output Bitstream

Hey folks, just got a new Onkyo Txnr656 and cannot get my Panny BDT330 to output Bitstream to my Onkyo - Onkyo says PCM 2 channel coming in - tried hard reset, power cycle, menu resets, to no avail. Swapped HDMI cables. At my wits end as the Onkyo says bitstream for access to all DTS and Atmos settings.
Any ideas? It is a few years old but dont want to go buy another played if I dont have to.

My panny went bad. Where can I find a similar player with the dual HDMI outputs? That won't break the bank.

First, ensure that the disc you are playing has a mutlichannel digital soundtrack; some discs have selectable tracks, so make sure the multichannel digital track is selected.
Check the setting in the BD player for Digital Audio Output and make sure that PCM is not selected (p. 30 of the Owner's Manual). Check that BD-Video Secondary Audio is set to off and that HDMI Audio Output is on.
Also, check that your amplifier's listening mode is correct.
Good luck!
