After a few months I finally bought my first 3d film. Put in the disc and it does not recognize the 3d format. My receiver does not have 3d capability so I need a work around. Was thinking of connecting BR and direct TV HDMI directly to TV, then digital out to Receiver. Is this a good way?

there are players that have duel HDMI so you can use one for the tv and one for the receiver. I own the oppo 93. it can do that. I think the panasonic 500 can do that as well.

Doubtful. Your TV more than likely will not pass a 5.1 audio signal. You need to run audio from the BD player to the receiver to get any 5,1 audio. Look in the audio setup thread post 1 for recommendations:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1040061/official-blu-ray-player-audio-setup-thread-all-audio-questions-go-here

or you could look in the thread for your player.

My TV is the Samsung PN60E7000FFXZA not sure if it can pass 5.1 digital out when HDMI is original source.

As others have said, you need a 3D BluRay player with dual HDMI outs. There are several of them (higher end Sony, higher end Panny, Oppo, etc). I assume you know that you also need 3D glasses.

Thanks, I do know I need glasses, Just going old school now. Bluray player out to TV, and digital coax to receiver. I only have a 5.1 speaker configuration so the digital Coax is fine. When I upgrade my AVR 3D passing will be incorporated.

That will work but you will not get any HD audio, only DTS core and DD 5.1.

3D isn't worth the trouble, IMO.

With a 5.1 system can you hear an audible difference between DD 5.1 and HD audio?

I think 3D is worth the trouble. I'm watching at least three movies a week now in 3D since getting an LG 3D LCD and a Mitsubishi DLP earlier this year. I only wish I would have started earlier since my 2008 DLP was 3D capable but I never used it.

Although I prefer the Bluetooth active glasses of my DLP set over the passive glasses of my LG set. The passive ones actually give me more eye strain than the active ones.

That is very subjective and has nothing to do with 5.1 vs 7.1. Basically, you could ask ppl why they insist on FLAC lossless music vs mp3 since both are 2.0 stereo.

Most HD Audio tracks on BD are 5.1 only although 7.1 tracks have picked up momentum recently.

I'm the opposite. I bought a 3D TV for three years and barely finished one movie in 3 years. Worst thing is everytime I pick up my 3D glass, the battery is always dead even though I have not used it for ages.

The Xpand Bluetooth glasses I have are supposed to be good for 100 hours on each charge. It has a rechargeable battery that is not user replaceable. I have only charged it once after the initial charge at the beginning of the year. I also have pair of Samsung BT glasses that have a user replaceable battery, but cannot be charged. I like the chargeable glasses better.
