i am currently running a home network setup with synology ds213 and asus rt-n66u. My computers are running on 5 Ghz band.
Unfortunately my current blu-ray player sony s590 can only run on 2.4ghz and my mkv files have random choppiness on the screen.
i am not sure if the sony s790 runs on 5ghz therefore i am trying to find other alternatives

The older gen Sony comes with 5GHz dual-band wifi but unfortunately, cost cutting means all the new Sony players are 2.4GHz only (maybe except for top of line models). However, I believe Samsung and Panasonic still use dual-band wifi chips. You will have to research it.

You may never get smooth playback of your MKVs over wireless.....There are so many factors involved that personally I dont think youll see that much of a difference when using the 5Ghz band.....Take a look at the dedicated Networked Media player forum, youll see many if not most have issues streaming wirelessly especially when you start going to higher bitrate MKVs and ISO files......
