I'm a current owner of an Oppo BDP 83 with a 3d Panasonic ST50 plasma.

I'd like to get a 3D capable Oppo and thought with the indroduction of the BDP 103 I could maybe get the 93 at a slightly reduced rate. However when I started looking at pricing on Amazon the 93's are going for $1,000!

What's up with that? Didn't they sell new at $499?

I can always bite the bullet and get the 103 I just thought I could save a few bucks.

Thanks

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

This is because at least some of the 93s have the ability to play .iso files. Iso support was removed during the 9x lifetime but some people never did the firmware upgrade and maintained that capability. That ability to play .iso files is what fetches the high price. Models with later firmware not preserving that feature should sell for substantially less. There are 9x models out there that don't have that feature at far more reasonable price. You could also get a decent price for your 83 and be able to pick up a BDP-103 for only a couple of hundred or so difference. You might want to consider that.

You can probably get more information by posting your questions in the BDP-93 owner's forum.
