So I went to BB for a Blu-ray player.... sick of fan noise from ps3 when playing movies. I was going to get the sony s5100, and I saw the pioneer elite open box for 150, virtually same price as sony. I read a few mixed reviews on pioneer on this forum, so i bought them both... need to return one, so what do you guys think? btw feeding a samsung 64inch f8500 plasma and pretty good 7.1 system. Thanks...

I bought Sony S5100 at Costco for $109 (Costco model BX510). So, it should be a lot cheaper than $150. No idea how Pioneer compares to it since I don't own any Pioneer players.

That's normal price at Costco and you can return exchange anytime you wish. I never buy any players from BB for that reason.
I doubt most ppl will cross shopping these two brands. Since you have them both, you should be able to tell us smile.gif

I know Sony supports Netflix Super HD and 3D stream. YouTube HD. And most importantly, it can stream blu ray rips with DTS-HD audio intact w/o problem if your DLNA server can serve them out. Not many players out there can do that. However, it is a little quirky sometimes as in software is not that stable. It is a good entry level player.

Pioneers I knew in the past have a lot of trouble with firmware that cannot play some BD discs without problem. I'm sure those days are over but I don't track them anymore.
