Samsung BD-F5100 Owner's Thread

Whenever the blu ray goes to stand by or powers off I have to go back into the settings and select dts even though its already selected?? I have it ran to a Harmon kardon avr 145 that does dts. Thinking about trading the Samsung f5100 for the Sony bdps 1100 maybe will fix my issue.. Any thoughts, am I over looking something maybe?

I returned it for a LG BP330 but they didn't have any on display at sears and the box showed nothing about hookups. When I got it home all it has is hdmi output so it's running to my tv then optical out from tv to avr. I'm guessing I can't do dts like this? Time for a new avr I guess...

Hello!

I've recently purchased a Samsung BDF5100UX Blu-ray player because I needed something to replace an ageing Pioneer DVD player. I have a separate media player on my home network connected to a USB drive for storing ripped discs, mp3 etc.

At the moment I log in to the media box over the network & ftp files directly to its USB drive for storage/playback (I like this option better than streaming stuff over the network).

The original thought behind the Samsung was just for a cheap box to play DVDs on occasionally, but I notice it also has network connectivity and a USB port, so I'm thinking I could maybe do away with my existing media player & just use the Samsung, which would be nice.

My question is this. Is there a way to access the file system on a USB drive attached to the Samsung remotely over the network?

If I could copy files to & from the USB drive via the Samsung's (wired) network connection then I'd have no need for my other media player. But having to keep disconnecting the USB drive & attach it to another machine just to take files on & off it would be a royal PITA (and I'd stick with my existing solution).

Hope I've explained all that clearly enough. Hopefully some boffin out there in th'internet land has already cracked how to do this. I'm thinking it should be possible via ftp or whatever(?) If not, then Samsung have missed a trick IMO.

Smile How to transfer videos to the USB drive connected to Blu ray player

Hello friends,

Samsung BD-F5100 Network Blu-ray and DVD Player which is working perfectly fine.

We play videos mostly from USB drive connected to it but we had to disconnect/connect it every time we need to add new of videos to watch. As it is network connected, I would like to know if there's any way that I can transfer files from my laptop to Bluray player (to the USB drive) over the network (LAN)?

When i browse through the sources on the Blu-ray player (to choose Disc / USB / network devices etc..), I can see the list of my desktops connected to the same LAN so I guess it should be possible to transfer files over the network.

Please advise, many thanks!!

Sorry. Not possible. You cannot do that with any Blu-ray player. You'll need to transfer them from your computer directly to your flash drive.

UK Samsung BD-F5100 player won't function.

I purchased a new Samsung BD-F5100 blu-ray device from eBay UK to play Region B titles Stateside. The player loads and shows blinking device lights on the LED display but there is no output, just a blank screen, and no response to the eject command, either on the unit or remote-- just a soft clicking sound coming from the spindle inside the unit. I opened the device-- there is one click every five seconds or so, which is the center cap turning in ~60 degree increments.

I thought it might be the 50W-rated voltage converter so I ordered another one. No difference. Device is only rated at 8.8W so I should be good on wattage.

I have waited too long to return the device-- besides, it's not really worth the shipping. Any ideas?

Short clip of the sound:
