Never used my PS4 for Blu-Ray until the other day. I have always used my Panasonic BDT-230. Recently I've noticed some strange artifacts on images and credits on the BDT-230 with DVDs and Blu-Ray but movie was fine. Sound from a few Blu-Ray titles was lacking in overall "punchiness" as well. Star Trek into darkness was terrible sounding, as far as loudness and punch goes so I put it in the PS4. I usually set to bitstream so I can see the logo/icon of DTS-MA/DDTrue HD on my receiver.
On the PS4 Star Trek definitely sounded more full and punchy vs. my standalone player. Once I set to PCM I was amazed at the difference in output and overall clarity. PCM sounded better. Star Trek is DD true hd. I then put in thor 2 which has dts ma track and pcm sounded inferior. Any insight? Also, the artifacts were gone on the ps4.

Anyone have the Sony 6200 BluRay player? If so how much better is it than the PS4 or PS3 as a player?

You can use a remote, play 3D, and it's cheap, quiet and efficient.

Probably not. All Sony's have sub-par upconversion IMO. Unless you like artificial enhancement, you're not going to see any difference in BD.

Well it does have an 8 core processor to its advantage. Just like the PS3.

Had this issue a while back, (PS4 Shutting off).

I was watching T2:Skynet Edition Blu-Ray and after about 10 minutes the PS4 shut off. Actually took a while to turn back on. Went through the reboot and started where I left off. After about 10 minutes, it shut off again. I had to unplug to get it to turn back on. What's happening here? Could this be the auto shut off? I haven't watched a blu ray before tonight. It did also happen before on a game. I complain for a replacement will it be new or refurbished?

I finally picked up the Sony 6200 BluRay player. First impressions it does seem better the the Ps4. I watched Star Trek into darkness in 3D and was blown away. Colors looked amazing due to the higher bit depth and overall the PQ looked flawless.

I noticed Netflix now always outputs 5.1 audio as PCM 5.1 and not DD+ 5.1 (regardless of whether the audio priority is Linear PCM, Bitstream (DD), or Bitstream (DTS)). I think the latest update did this. However, it does seems PCM 5.1 is working right now.

The app recently updated and at first mine did this too.

What I did was go to the main menu and manually close the app (hover over it then select menu on the remote).

When you restart it it should allow DD + 5.1.

Mine had this issue and I thought it was a netflix network issue. I guess they and fios are not on good terms

I just checked the Netflix app on the PS4 and I had to change the priority to Dolby Digital in the menu in order to Dolby Digital Plus bitstreamed to the AV-8801. I closed out the app and restarted too.

I was helping a friend calibrate his Sony 65W850A with the Disney WOW Blu-ray and found the PS4 wouldn't produce the correct Ideal White and had a delay in audio sync when compared with a PS3. I'm going to see if he'll let me borrow his PS4 to test it on my TV to see if it's a specific interaction or if the PS4 has an issue. Anyone else seen this?

I did both suggestions and it worked. Not sure whether the audio priority setting was the reason though.

don't know about audio sync but my Samsung PN51F5300 Plasma TV calibrates identically on both my PS3 and PS4. Including passing WTW and BTB and outputting video levels

I use YCbCr on the PS3 (not RGB) for DVDs/BDs and YCbCr is the only kind of output on the PS4 for DVDs/BDs (you can't output RGB while playing DVDs/BDs). Of course, PS4 game discs don't count when I say DVDs/BDs.

i also have a sony 65w850a and had audio synch troubles with my ps4 and ps3.

I turned off the "output at 1080p/24Hz" setting on both ps3 and ps4 and that seemed to fix the audio synch issues.

Not sure why it wasnt working still need to sort it out. Supposedly my yamaha amp and tv should accept the 24hz signal.

A little off topic but this statement just sounds weird. Maybe I'm too young but I would expect someone's fiance to let their S.O. use their $7.99 Netflix account ANY time.

PS4 finally gets 3d blu-ray support next week!

I watch a lot of 3d with my family and this is the update I've been waiting for. Already love the PS4 bluray performance and can't wait to see how it handles 3D.

That's good news was waiting for 3d support myself. Sony does not want Microsoft to beat them on the 3d support great for PS4 owners.

Has anyone noticed a noticeable lag in video and audio lip sync after firmware 1.75? I tested Into the darkness last night and found that the video was lagging behind the sound no matter what I did. I tested several other discs and the results were the same. In my standalone BD player no lag whatsoever.

Ps4 audio quality?

Hello,

My setup: cm1's stereo (later cm9) classe cap 151 and ps4.

When watching movies and series on dvd, the sound is good, detailled.
But how does this compare to something like the Marantz ud7007? When watching series, the sound tends to be a bit thin, and not 100% harmonic. I'd like a bit warmer sound for instance and more harmonic.
Does an upgrade like this help take off the edge?

Thanks
