I haven't extensively tried it but could control basic features like start, pause, etc with my harmony.
What media remote?

I've seen it at Best Buy in the PS4 section. I believe it has to work with a dongle though.

I never knew that was available. Sony still hasn't made one yet though.

Hey guys, I know I'm new here and to the topic but I think I have a rather simple question for the experts here. I've read through all the posts in this thread but I can't make up my mind on the general opinion on how well PS4 performs as a (3D) blu ray player. Am I correct in summarizing that generally the opinions are not very favorable?

My trusted Samsung BD-C8900 blu ray player broke down on me. I'm looking for a replacement. It looked like a good deal to buy a PS4 because I'd get a BD player plus gaming console. Less boxes also appeals to me.

But being no expert in a lot of the details discussed in this forum I simply don't know if I'd notice any difference between the PS4 and the Samsung I had? Or whether I'm better off buying a dedicated player like the Sony BDP-S6200? 8 bit, 10 or 12 bit signals? Would I notice a difference?

I don't care too much about DLNA, I can use my TV for that. I would like to be able to play DVD and 3D blu ray discs possibly audio cds and of course the possibility to play the occasional kickass game .

I'd hook the PS4 up to my Onkyo TX-SR508 A/V receiver and Philips DesignLine 46PDL8907.

Thanks in advance for your insights.

I use both the ps4 and xbox one as bd players and don't see any issues compared to my ps3 which used to be my main bd player. DVD upscaling on the other hand is nothing special on either but I don't remember the PS3 being great at it either.

PS4 works fine as a BD player so should not notice any problems there but I do notice you want to play audio CD's and as of today Sony has not allowed that on the PS4. I believe it is coming in a future firmware update but today you cannot play audio cd's on PS4.

I had issues playing back "The Equalizer" with the audio - I have the PS4 set to bitstream and the player was only able to send 5.1 DTS not 7.1 DTS HD. I put the disc in my Sony 6200 and my receiver indicated it was decoding 7.1 DTS HD.

Does anyone else have a mild rattling noise from the bd drive when playing a bd or DVD movie? Mine is on a smooth, flat, hard surface and does. I Googled it and some people said to put a folded up piece of paper or cardboard to raise the front left corner a bit and that it would balance the ps4 and by making it level and stable the noise would stop. Thing is I hear it with some discs and not others. I tried the paper idea and it seemed to work with some discs but not the DVD I'm playing now. Do I need a thicker bit of folded paper or is that solution not a good one with the real source of the rattling noise something else?

I've never noticed the noise with mine. Not saying yours is faulty because I haven't really listened for it but wanted to let you know that it may not be all of them doing it.
