I know that apps can and will differ between displays and BluRay/media players and maybe because of that one would want to buy both with smarts. But if the apps were the same, why duplicate it? My thinking is let the BluRay/Medai player handle the smarts and buy the best picture quality and the largest possible screen size one can get without the smarts.

Receiver: Yamaha RX-V1800/Yamaha RX-V1500
Display Samsung UN65KU6491 65"/Vizio SV-470M 47"
BluRay/CD: Yamaha BD-S681/Sony BDP-S360; Turntable ProJect Xpression III
Speakers PSB: Mains Image T-45/Alphas; Center Image 8C/100C; Srnd Image 1B/Alpha Mites
Subwoofer: Rythmic LV12-R/PSB Subsonic 5
Media Player WD + 3TB USB drive/Iomega + 1TB internal drive

Neither. Get a dedicated streaming device like ROKU, etc.

The smart features on your TV will be outdated in a year or two, yet it will last another 10 years or more. So it's best to get that from a cheap, replaceable device like a BD player or streaming box.

Another reason to duplicate it is that you never know if one is better than the other. PQ when streaming Netflix on my Panny 110 BluRay player was very noticeably better than PQ when streaming Netflix (the same exact movie) on my Panny VT30 plasma. They were both the same year's model, so who figured?
