I doubt it. They have never done such a sale in the past.
That doesn't mean they won't, but I am just assuming based on past years.
They do sometimes have refurbished models for sale at a lower price than the new ones,
and everyone who has ever purchased a refurb model from them, says it is indistinguishable from a brand new unit,
and the refurbs also come with the same full 2-yr warranty.
Aside from that, they have never offered discounts on their products.

No, they never have sales.

You might see if refurbs are available: those are always a deal.

The extra oomph I believe is gotten from the Oppo's native (Mediatek) handling and the Darbee effect, which would be bypassed if you went directly to the screen from the XFinity box.

As for sound, I assume you'd bitstream sound from the 103D to the soundbar if you use the 103D's apps or from the screen to the soundbar if not.

Either way, you're bitstreaming and depending on the soundbar to decode. Or if the soundbar only takes in PCM, then the Oppo's decoding vs. the screen's comes into play.

Lots of options. I have an older Vizio screen that has a good number of apps, I only use it for Amazon instant video, since the Oppo doesn't have that. For all other streaming, VUDU, Netflix, etc. I prefer the Oppo to get the processing.
Gotcha - thanks for the reply, I must have gotten confused in that I thought I could use the oppo to drive a passive soundbar - appreciate the heads up. To be honest though upon further consideration I was going to have to go active anyways given the set up and the connectivity I wanted the soundbar to have. Dumb luck I guess!

Great to hear that you are using the X1 via the 103D, I am excited to see if it can help.

Appreciate the info and reply.

Make sure the XFinity box outputs 1080i 0r 720p, not 1080p60 so the Oppo does the last bit of processing. I use 1080i, since most things (except sports it seems) come in at that resolution from the different HD Channels.

Unfortunately, there is no 'native' display setting on the X1 boxes so they leave the signal alone and let the Oppo do everything. Even with all that, you'll get improvement I think.

I'm flirting with going to a Tivo eventually so I can get the native choice (along with OTA).

I'm a newbie and not current on the next hdmi 2.0 version. What does hdmi 2.0 brings to the table as far as Oppo other than 4k ?

There's already a thread for discussing the next Oppo player. Please take the HDMI 2.0 / next player discussion there so we can focus on the BDP-103D in this thread.

Just purchased a Yamaha rxv677 AVR and a Samsung 85hu7500/85hu8550 TV.
All works fine at 1080p, but When I set to use 4k resolution output of oppo, I get no audio, in either bitstream or PCm. Using a single hdmi1. Problem is present with AVR on (ie Yamaha speakers) or AVR off ( tv speakers), seems the audio won't lock on/is not recognised. All latest forwards and tried oppo factory reset, Anyone here with similar issues?

Have you tried, as a test bypassing the AVR and connecting directly to the TV, just to check whether the AVR is interfering with the audio?

Also - how long are your HDMI cable runs from the Oppo to the AVR and from the AVR to the screen? What kind of HDMI cables are they?

I have the 103D and as everyone knows it supports 4K but I hear talk about needing HDMI 2.0 in order to get 4K. Can the 103D do 4K without the 2.0? It does advertise it can pass 4K.

^ Yes. HDMI 1.4 hardware supports 4K with limitations. The 10x players can upscale lower resolution content to 4K output within those limitations.

Ok thanks. It will be a long while before 4k takes off just like HD did. I remember being at the store and the sales person telling me that the CRT HD tv was ready and a set top box would give me HD content. Got the set top box and only a few channels in HD until years later there was more. This was back in 2000 and even know not everything is in HD.
I just bought a plasma and will updgrade to 4k when there is real content and will do the same with the Oppo.
Sorry I know I got off subject here.

FWIW, users of the Android Media Control App should note that it has updated to version 3.0.1. If you are having any issues with the app, and already have the latest player firmware, you may wish to go with the update.

Earlier today I received an 'update' prompt from the Android Play Store about this new app release

Do you know if Oppo have issued a 'change-log' ?

I believe you need HDMI 2.0 to pass 4k at 60fps 4.4.4 color. I think current HDMI 1.4 is limited to 4k at 30fps 4.2.2 color. If I am wrong about this, someone please correct me.

Per the HDMI manufacturing association. HDMI 1.4 will support 444 for 8 bit color depth at 4K 24/25/30. HDMI 2.0 will support 4k/60 at 444 for 8 bit; but not for 10/12/16 bit where support drops to 422 or 420.

In current firmware, the HDMI 1.4 implementation in the 103D/105D also supports 4K/50 and 4K/60 using YCbCr 4:2:0 data format. (The hardware in the 103/105 can not support this.)

NOTE: The data on Blu-ray and SD-DVD discs is 4:2:0. Check if your display will accept 4:2:0. 4:2:0 is used automatically when 4K is output at /50 or /60.

I think in the long run when 4K takes off we will need to upgrade most of our equipment. Even if what we have is compatible now there will be neater gadgets to purchase.

I know it hasn't shipped yet. But instead of a Roku mhl stick into the Oppo hdmi in port could you use the soon to be released FireStick which is probably not mhl but hdmi.

any trade off's using the hdmi stick vs. the mhl stick?

It will need to get power from an external source and remote control of it won't be integrated into the Oppo remote, but otherwise it should work just fine.

Did anyone try one of the linear power supplies for the Oppo 103d from www.oppomod.com? Apperently they also increase the quality of digital connections (audio/video). With 280$ respectively 380$ they are nit that expensive?
