Release Notes:

This release is for the OPPO BDP-103, BDP-103D, BDP-105 and BDP-105D Blu-ray Disc players.

Special Notice:
Once this Public Beta firmware is installed on the player, you CAN revert back to the previous Official release via a USB thumb drive. There will be no issues upgrading to any future official or beta firmware release.

Comparing to the current Official release version BDP10X-83-0715, the major changes included in this version are:

1) Resolved a no audio issue with certain receivers when playing DD+ 5.1 content from Netflix and Vudu.
2) Resolved an issue where the player would automatically power off when receiving commands via a TCP connection.
3) General disc compatibility improvements based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples

All features and improvements of the previous firmware are also included in this version.

Thanks Bob, I thought my player was working fine after the original update. When I went to watch Netflix tonight, no audio. I must have been using my ATV before so I didn't realize I had an issue. Your posted link saved the day. Thanks👍🏾

Lord give us patience.........

With current firmware DTHD in MKV works just fine IF : No other audio codecs are played after power-on (energy efficient standby).
There is no longer any forced decoding to PCM. If the playback fails you will likely just not get any audio bitstreamed at all.
I just re-tested this in firmware 0918B and its still true.

Since when is PCM low quality? Does Oppo even officially support THD via MKV?
If it's not officially supported, then if you can get it to work it's a free gift.

is no firmware 0918B
where do you see firmware 0918B ?
BDP-103D Support Page

Note that if you don't have the USA version of the player, you need to get firmware updates from the distributor for where your player was purchased and the release dates are not the same as each distributor does their own verification and minor changes (switching the list of apps, local region codes, etc.).

Nor does it say that the Firmware Update fixes Dolby TrueHD audio tracks in MKV via USB !!!

I have only one sample of such in my test suite, but it works for me. You might contact OPPO support with details of your problem file and offer to send them a sample.

If they can't help you then I doubt if we can.

answer the truth !
No lie !
you could do it ?

OPPO customer service explicitly says
OPPO 103D can't play TrueHD audio tracks in MKV via USB

why lie ? To sell devices ?

If I lied to you before, why would you believe me now?

Mediainfo shows this for my sample file:

Audio #2
ID : 3
Format : TrueHD
Codec ID : A_TRUEHD
Duration : 2 h 21 min
Bit rate mode : Variable
Maximum bit rate : 2 850 kb/s
Channel(s) : 6 channels
Channel positions : Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE
Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz

For me, it plays from MKV on USB (and SMB).

For you: I don't think we can help you.

Its a big club with many well-respected members.
I was just playing an MKV of San Andreas via SMB and my AVR was happily displaying "Atmos". Maybe the poster is being confused by the player calling it "MLP" in MKV. But what do I know, I'm just lying.

Hi fellow 103D Owners, I am looking for input re: P.Q. without having to read through the 9K+ thread posts. For those who have DirecTV, is there an noticable improved picture quality if the HDMI Handshake goes from the DirecTV Box HDMI Output into the 103D HDMI Input and then HDMI Output into either an AVR/Display (1080P) Source ? I am aware that this may/will depend on the quality of the Display's Upscaler but in general is there a picture quality improvement if the video signal goes to the 103D prior to reaching the Display ? I thank you in advance for any input on this matter.

I am finding that, after the most recent Oppo firmware update for the BDP-103D, it will no longer connect to the Android Media Controller app. The app simply doesn't see the player. I've even tried manually entering the IP address from the player networking menu, and it is not working. Anyone else experience this and are there any workarounds?

In Setup > Network Setup, confirm that My Network is ON, and then do a Connection Test. If that's good and the app still does not see the player, then call or email OPPO Tech Support for additional steps you can try.

If you have a dual band router make sure both are on the same band.
I've had that as an issue also.

It is working for me.

Firmware: 83-0918B, app: 4.0.1. (I see there is a 4.0.2 update; I should install that and try again).

I should have mentioned that I am located in Norway, Scandinavia, so ordering directly from Oppo is not an option.
If you add location to your AVS profile, you will get better quality responses. Note my location. It's close enough for me to walk to Oppo if I was just thirty years younger.

As they say in Real Estate, "Location, location, location!"

Thank you for your input. When you say "it worked okay" was there a noticeable difference in the video quality when sending the video signal from the DirecTV box through the 103D and then to your Display/AVR or do you mean the signal handshake was okay in that it was working properly ? If there was no discernable difference in the video quality then I will not take the time to move equipment and cables around which with my setup would take some time and effort.

If it's not too hard for you to try it, I might do that but what I meant is that it worked initially but I don't think I could tell much difference.

When I started having handshake type problems, it was only with the pay channels (HBO Cinemax, Showtime, etc)

I was going through a matrix switch and the receiver though so I'm not sure how much if anything it had to do with that.

*I have a unique situation in that I wanted to make it easy for family when I'm not around, so I use external self powered speakers for casual TV listening and run through the receiver for movies etc when I'm around.

Long time 103D owner, 1st post to this thread in a very long time. Suddenly (with no changes to my Oppo/AVR setup) I have no video output other than the Oppo logo, irrespective of which input I choose (Blu-Ray disc, HDMI in Front/Back) the display says "no signal and the "Home Menu" cannot be displayed. Audio is unaffected, regardless of input source. I've seen some vague reference to "power recycling", but cannot find it in the manual or Oppo FAQ. I could connect another TV to the "Diagnostic" port on the back (after removing existing HDMI cables), but I'm unsure what to do when I encounter the "Setup Menu". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What happens when you cycle through the output resolutions? Do any of them work?

Audio is unaffected, regardless of input source. I've seen some vague reference to "power recycling", but cannot find it in the manual or Oppo FAQ. I could connect another TV to the "Diagnostic" port on the back (after removing existing HDMI cables), but I'm unsure what to do when I encounter the "Setup Menu". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Just unplug it for a minute or so and plug it back in.

Thanks to those who contributed. Unplugging for an extended length of time and cycling through resolutions did not help. I eventually hauled out an old portable TV, unplugged the HDMI cable and connected the Oppo to the TV with an old time video cable. I was able to see the Home Screen and performed a reset to factory defaults (other than accounts such as Netflix & Vudu). The Oppo now works perfectly! It's likely to update to current firmware, so I hope that the video problem doesn't recur subsequently.
