QUICK FAQ
Can the BDP-103 be upgraded to the BDP-103D specifications? Unfortunately this is not possible. The Darbee solution is built into the mainboard, so it is not economically, environmentally, or time friendly to swap out the BDP-103 components for the BDP-103D components. You will need to purchase the BDP-103D at its full retail price.

Is there or will there be a BDP-105D? At this time the Darbee is exclusive to the BDP-103. Depending on the amount of interest and other feedback OPPO receives, they may released a BDP-105 with a Darbee solution. But there are no immediate or current plans for such a player.

Does the BDP-103D still have QDEO? No. The Marvell QDEO processor has been completely removed from the player and replaced by the Darbee and the VRS solutions. The VRS handles 4K scaling, Detail Enhancement and Edge Enhancement processing, while the Darbee handles just Darbee processing.

Since there is no longer a QDEO processor, will there be a loss of picture quality and accuracy? No. Like the current BDP-103, the BDP-103D uses the MediaTek SOC for all de-interlacing, scaling (to 1080p) and general video processing. So when the Darbee is set to OFF, the BDP-103D and the BDP-103 offer identical video performance.

Arguably, the HDMI 1 output of the BDP-103D will be better than the HDMI 1 output of the BDP-103 as some people observed a slightly less sharp image using HDMI 1. This was due to the QDEO enabling a small amount of Noise Reduction to this interface. Without the QDEO processor, there is no Noise Reduction defaulted to the HDMI 1 output, so some perceived increase in sharpness may be observed.

What Darbee settings do you recommend? I personally recommend using Hi Def and no more than 35%. Depending on your seating distance, your display technology, and the source, you may find that you can increase the Darbee percentage without adding artifacts. Conversely, you may find some sources require less processing.

The player has a Darbee button on it, so OPPO encourages you to switch between the Darbee modes and values on the fly, so play and tinker with it to your hearts contentment. The Darbee is for your personal preference, as it is "beyond reference".

Since I can, I am stealing the following section from Bill McClain:

How is the BDP-103D different from the BDP-103? The BDP-103D subtracts:
  • the Marvell Qdeo video processor
...and adds:
  • the Darbee Visual Presence video processor
  • the Silicon Image VRS ClearView video processor
...and replaces:
  • the remote with a new version with a Darbee button
All other aspects and functions of the two models are identical.

Where is the BDP-103D Settings Checklist?
Here: BDP-103D Settings Checklist

Is VRS processing the same on the BDP-103D as on the 983H and BDP-83?
The older players used Anchor Bay Technology chips with VRS. Since that time VRS was aquired by Silicon Image, which provides the solution used in the BDP-103D.

On the older players ABT peformed deinterlacing and scaling, but in the BDP-103D this is done by the Mediatek decoder.

The current Silicon Image VRS solution provides optional Detail & Edge Enhancement and Video Smoothing, and 4k upscaling.

What are some reviews of Darbee technology?

How many Darbee settings does the player remember? Darbee has four modes. The player remembers a separate Darbee Level for each:
  • Off (always makes Darbee Level = 0)
  • HiDef
  • Gaming
  • FullPop
In addition, the player has three user Modes available on the Picture Adjustment setup screen. These are user-defined presets and each remembers a Darbee Mode and Darbee Level for each mode, so the player will remember 3 x 3 = 9 possible levels (Off always being 0).

Is setting Darbee Level to "0" the same as Darbee Mode "Off"? Yes, they are identical.

You may experience stability issues if this step is not performed.
3. Even though this firmware provided some functionality similar to a pre-amplifier, we would recommend you to use it very carefully when connecting the Multi-channel or Stereo audio outputs directly to your amplifier and speakers.
4.This Public Beta firmware is designed to work with new versions of Apple iOS and Android media control applications. which add new features like SMB access, album art display, media category support, and the ability to share information to mainstream social network websites. The MediaControlHD V2.0 (for iPad and iPad mini) is already in the Apple Store, another version for the iPhone, as well as the corresponding Android app, will be available shortly.

Release Notes:

1. Added "Power On Volume" and "Maximum Volume" selections for the Multi-channel and Stereo (BDP-105 only) audio outputs. Both selections are available at the Setup Menu -> Audio Processing.
2. Added "Power On Input" selection which allows the customer to decide which input source to be used upon the player powers on. This selection is available at the Setup Menu -> Playback Setup.
3. Added "Settings Management" selection which allows the customer to backup or restore the player settings. This selection is available at the Setup Menu -> Device Setup. A USB flash drive is required for this purpose, and the backup file is encrypted to only allow access from the OPPO Technical Support.
4. Added "4Kx2K Output" selection to facilitate the 4K resolution upscaling and output to a 4K-compatible TV/projector. This selection is available at the Setup Menu -> Video Setup.
5. Added "Auto" mode when deciding the SACD output audio format. This mode is available at the Setup Menu -> Audio Format Setup -> SACD Output.
6. Added the support for automatic file and folder sorting when accessing SMB servers. The files and folders are now sorted in the alphabetic order.
7. Added the support for MKV file with PGS subtitle.
8. Added the Zooming capability to the video content sent through the HDMI IN ports.
9. Upgraded the "CinemaNow" and "Youtube Leanback" applications.
10. Improved the support of CUE playlist, now a single CUE file could point to multiple music files in the same folder.
11. Resolved a frame rate decoding error for 24Hz video files. Customers reported that after upgrading to BDP10X-58-0917 firmware, many MKV, M2TS and TS files which were 23.976Hz were decoded as 29.970Hz. This issue has resolved.
12. Resolved an incorrect audio Downmix issue on the Stereo audio outputs (BDP-105 only). Customers reported that after setting the "Stereo Signal" to "Front Left/Right", they could heard those surround channel audio from the dedicated Stereo audio outputs. This issue has been resolved
13. Resolved a visible streaking issue observed on the BDP-103D player. Customers reported that after turning on the Darbee processing, they could see streaks or straps in the background details, which became more obvious after increasing the Darbee level or switching to Full-Pop mode. This is caused by the mismatched rounding algorithms when passing video signal between the embedded Darbee video processor and the following OPPO video module. This issue has been resolved in the beta release.
14. Resolved a resume playback failure on Youtube. Customers reported that if they attempted to resume the play of a stream after pausing it for like 10 minutes, the playback picked up then stalled after a few seconds. This issue has been resolved.
15. Resolved a multi-channel DSD support issue in the Dual Display mode. Customers reported in this mode, if they connected the HDMI 1 Out to a TV and the HDMI 2 Out to a DSD-capable receiver, then the receiver could only recognize the Front Left and Front Right channels even the players were reading a multi-channel SACD. This issue has been resolved.
16. For the BDP-103D player, this firmware added three commands (QDB, SDB and DRB) to the RS-232 protocol for Darbee control, it also provided finer control over the Darbee level adjustment (in 1% step size).
17. Added an experimental feature of "Gapless Playback". Currently this feature only works for WAV and APE music files, and can be enabled in the music file navigation interface by pressing the OPTION button then selecting the "Gapless playback" choice. In the Gapless mode, you may use the buttons like PAUSE, PLAY, STOP, NEXT and PREV, but not REV and FWD. This feature is still under development and may be improved in the next firmware releases.
18. Resolved the compatibility issue with some DVD/BD blank discs. Customers reported that their self-burnt DVD or BD discs failed to load and play on the OPPO players, samples include Verbatim DVD+R DL 8.5G and BD-R DL 50GB blank discs. This firmware upgraded the software driver for disc loader and resolved this issue.

Release Notes:
1. Resolved an audio dropout issue occurring with "Monsters University (BD, 2013)", related to its Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and 7.1 audio tracks when the player's HDMI Audio Format was set to Bitstream. We worked with Dolby and our decoder chip maker to address this type of audio dropouts.
2. Resolved an issue with Gapless Playback with several customer-encoded WAV files. It was caused by an additional “List” information segment presented in the WAV file Header, and we have added support for this segment so that Gapless Playback now functions properly with these files.
3. Resolved an issue where a brief static noise could be heard when streaming music from a computer running Mac OS X to the BDP-105's USB DAC input. It could happen when the music stream was paused for a few seconds and then resumed, and it could be heard through the analog audio outputs, including the 7.1, Stereo, and Headphone outputs. We improved the audio muting logic and have eliminated this static noise.
4. Resolved an issue where a brief static noise could be heard when playing SACD discs in DSD mode on the BDP-105. This burst of noise was audible at the beginning of a track or when switching to the next track. It could be heard through the analog audio outputs, including the 7.1 and Stereo ports. We improved the audio muting logic and have eliminated this static noise.
5. Resolved a compatibility issue between BDP-103/105's HDMI 1 Output to the McIntosh MX150/151 AV Processors. Users reported no audio when using this combination, so we added special instructions for these A/V processors in the HDMI handshake process. We highly recommend that you contact McIntosh Technical Support to upgrade your MX150/151 firmware to the latest version.
6. Added Gapless Playback support for FLAC files.
7. Added 24 Hz support for customer-encoded video files in 480P24 and 720P24 formats. The original frame rate can be preserved when upscaling the content to 1080p, e.g., when Resolution is set to 1080P, the 720P23.976 content is output as 1080P23.976, and 720P24 is output as 1080P24. Previously, these formats were frame-rate converted to 60 Hz.
8. Added an "INSTANT REPLAY" function to video playback. If the customer presses the AB REPLAY button twice (two presses within 1 second), video playback will be automatically rewound 10 seconds.
9. Added support for playing CUE files and DSD64 files (.DFF and .DSF) over DLNA. The DLNA server must support these formats as well. A new version of oShare DLNA server that provides these functions is available now, and can be downloaded here from SourceForge.net.

4. Improved HDMI handshake performance for the HDMI input ports.
5. Resolved a compatibility issue with the available HDMI 2.0 input port on some Panasonic 4K TV, for example, the #4 HDMI port on TV model TC-L65WT600. This port contains additional Extended Display Identification Data (VSDB) blocks which caused our player to switch to DVI output mode and discard the audio packages, so there was no sound from the TV speakers. We added the support of the specific VSDB blocks and resolved the no sound issue.
6. Resolved a compatibility issue between BDP-103/105's HDMI 1 Output to the McIntosh MX150/151 AV Processors. 16. Resolved a HDMI handshake failure when the OPPO's HDMI Output is connected to an A/V receiver, while the same receiver's HDMI output is fed back to the OPPO's HDMI input. We added special handling for this kind of "loop" connection and resolved the handshake failure. However, We highly recommend that you should not use this "loop chain" connection since it might cause unexpected HDMI handshake/CEC result, even cause electrical damage.
17. Added the indications on the front panel and the TV screen for DSD file (.dsf, .dff) playback. If DSD stream is output through HDMI, the "SACD" icon on the front panel will be lit and the TV screen shows “Track Type” as "DSD". If PCM stream is output, then both "SACD" and "PCM" icons on the front panel will be lit, and the TV screen shows “Track Type” as "DSD to PCM". In this way, the customer could know if DSD-to-PCM conversion is happening in the player.
18. General disc compatibility improvements based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples.

Loader Version: 6U1000 or 7B1300 (BDP-103), 7B1300 (BDP-105, BDP-105D, BDP-103D)
Sub Version: MCU103-05-0916 (BDP-103), MCU105-04-1113 (BDP-105), MCU13D-01-0618 (BDP-103D), MCU15D-01-0930 (BDP-105D), DB10X 131030 (BDP-103D, 105D)

1.Fixed a bug in calculating acoustic propagation delay from the "Speaker Distance" parameters of the "Speaker Configuration" setting.
2. Upgraded the Netflix application to the latest version certified for OPPO BDP-10x models. This version features a brand new user interface. It also contains improved adaptive streaming technology which will improve streaming quality for high-speed internet connections. The new Netflix application should help customers who have reported poor streaming quality during peak hours. (On a related note, recently customers reported that Netflix streaming on OPPO players and other streaming devices could become unstable with error message like "not connect to internet". In our experience this issue is not caused by the player or its firmware update. It could be either a server-side problem or an Internet traffic problem. Should this happen to your device, please report the outage to Netflix. Netflix recommends a troubleshooting method of de-activating the device and re-activating it. De-activation can be done from the OPPO player’s setup menu (Setup -> Device Setup -> Netflix -> De-activate). Re-activation can be done by accessing the Netflix application from the Home Menu. In most cases, Netflix service can resume working after a few tries. The new Netflix application in this update contains additional network troubleshooting tool which can be used to test your connection to Netflix servers.)
3. Added the "Digital Concert Hall" application from Berliner Philharmoniker, which provides live and recorded classical music concerts in HD video from leading orchestras all over the world. Removed the "Film Fresh" application which is no longer functional due to the service provider stopping the service.
4. Improved Gapless Playback performance. Resolved issues such as the second track playing twice before moving to the third track, and resolved an issue where the Gracenote information could not be fetched when playing WAV files.
5. Resolved an issue where user settings (Size, Distance, Trim) inside the Speaker Configuration were incorrectly applied to the Headphone Out signal route. We revised the algorithm in this firmware and the Headphone Out signal is no longer affected by the Speaker Configuration changes.
6. Added a safety feature for BDP-103/103D: the "SACD Output" format is set to "PCM" by default. The reason is that the digital-to-analog converter (DAC) used on these two models cannot adjust the volume for DSD signals, so the analog volume level could automatically switch back to 100 when a DSD stream is detected. This safety feature will force the DSD stream to be decoded as a PCM stream before sending it to the DAC, which can help control the volume when loading SACD disc(s).
7. Added support for the "4Kx2K@50/60Hz" resolution to the BDP-103D/105D (HDMI 1 only, and in YCbCr 4:2:0 format only). The "4Kx2K Output" setting for the BDP-103D/105D is set to "Auto 4K 50/60Hz 4:2:0" by default.
8. Resolved an issue of “Reset Factory Defaults” not erasing the user account for the Youtube Leanback application.
9. Resolved an "A/V Sync" related issue where the A/V Sync data was not be automatically applied to the Coaxial and Optical digital audio outputs after the player was powered on.
10. Improved the file sorting algorithm for the media center (the Music, Photo and Movie options on the Home Menu). The player can automatically detect numbers located at the beginning or end of the filenames and sort the files by the numeric value. Albums with numbered tracks will play in the proper order.
11. Extended support for the PCM audio format for up to 24-bit, 352.8 kHz / 384 kHz via the USB DAC IN port (BDP-105D only).
12. Added the timing adjustment for external subtitles. This can be accessed from the "Option" menu -> "Subtitle Adj." -> "Sync." when playing movies from a USB flash drive or external hard drive.
13. A new version of the Windows driver for the USB Audio DAC is available for download here (v2.22). It is compatible with BDP-105, 105D and the upcoming headphone amplifier HA-1. Please uninstall the previous version(s) of the OPPO USB DAC driver from your computer before installing this new one.

Sub Version: MCU103-05-0916 (BDP-103), MCU105-04-1113 (BDP-105), MCU13D-01-0618 (BDP-103D), MCU15D-01-0930 (BDP-105D), DB10X 131030 (BDP-103D, 105D)

1. Fixed a bug in calculating acoustic propagation delay from the "Speaker Distance" parameters of the "Speaker Configuration" setting.
(On a related note, there is a small chance in Gapless Playback mode that the second and successive FLAC or APE files become slightly chopped off before moving to the next track. It might be related to the "Compresssion Level" setting during the file encoding. Should this happen, please contact OPPO service and provide some sample files.)
Please note that once "4Kx2K@50/60Hz" is activated, the user choices of "Color Space (HDMI 1)" and "Deep Color (HDMI 1)" in "Setup Menu -> Video Setup -> HDMI Options" is not used.
12. Resolved an audio sample rate issue between the BDP-105D's USB DAC IN and computers running Mac OS X.
13. Added the timing adjustment for external subtitles. This can be accessed from the "Option" menu -> "Subtitle Adj." -> "Sync." when playing movies from a USB flash drive or external hard drive.
15. General disc compatibility improvements based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples.

1. Resolved a Color Space issue for the HDMI 1 Out in BDP-103D/105D. Customers reported that if the Resolution was set to Source Direct and the Color Space was set to RGB Video Level, the actual color space sent out was RGB PC Level. This issue has been fixed in this firmware.

6. Added support for the “Pandora Premiers” station in Pandora.
7. Improved the Gapless Playback feature, and resolved an issue where the gapless mode could not be enabled for some 96 kHz / 24-bit WAV files.
8. Improved support for CUE files, specifically for CUE files that point to multiple WAV files.

I finally received my 103 D and it blows everything else out of the water that I've ever owned.

I'm connecting it to my Denon X1200 receiver and home theater setup. I used the HDMI in 2 on my 103d and HDMI in on the receiver for blu ray.

For some reason every time I boot up the Oppo, if says there is no ARC available on my setup. I have my receiver connected to my 65JS8500 TV via ARC and made sure ARC was turned on, on my TV and receiver.

Also I mainly just watch blu rays on this. I'm using a 5.1 surround sound and want to get the best audio and video possible. Is there a post with the best settings for a 4k Tv?

Finally, I tried messing with Darbee and it show's the color red to do split screen so you can see the difference. I pressed the red button on the remote and it does nothing? I'm just trying to find a sweet spot for darbee for strictly blu ray watching.

Thanks in advance.

Darbee is only functional on the hdmi 1 output of your 103D.

I'm thinking of replacing my 83SE with a 103 or 103D, not because there is anything wrong with my 83SE but because, well you know. The reasons I'm using to justify it is full IP control and video processing (particularly Darbee) for my other video sources including a DirecTV HR34, AppleTV and Mac Mini. Those of you that own one, do you run them through the Oppo like this and if so do you notice it providing an improvement in picture quality? I probably wouldn't use the Darbee for BluRay per se, so could get by with the 103, but from what I can tell it can really make a difference on other HD and SD sources, like the HR34 for example. I don't have 4k.

What are you finding with your setup?

My Oppo will NOT display any chapter markers when playing MKV and MP4 files no matter how I encode them! It will break them into 10 chapters with MKV and 2 chapters with MP4 per Oppo's default setting. All original chapters are ignored, but I have absolutely ZERO problems with chapter markers displaying while playing them anywhere else.
This is absurd and I have been wasting many MANY hours trying to encode my files to both MKV and MP-4 using Handbrake. The only files that will play correctly is if I rip them through MakeMKV but that's a direct conversion (Big files).

On Handbrake, I tried:
Filter>Container: both MKV and MP4
Video>Video Codec: H.264 (x264)
Framerate (FPS): Same as source
Constant Framerate, Quality RF 17
also tried Variable Framerate
Optimize Video>x264 Preset: Slower
x264 Tune: Animation, Film
H.264 Profile: High>Level: 4.1
Chapter Markers: Create chapter markers Checked

When I play MP4 files, it breaks into two big chapters (whole movie dissects into only two chapters), and MKV (showed as AVC on info) will default/break into 10 chapters. How do you guys get this to function all of its original chapter markers???? I'm frickin' up to my neck with this Oppo player!

Typically I do MakeMKV and then HandBrake to produce a compressed MKV. Chapters work as expected. I have no experience with MP4.

Official OPPO BDP-103D (Darbee Edition) Owner's Thread

Really close to buying a 103d after my current player decided to start dropping audio and then froze on me again today while watching mad max. I'm over it. Before I do I have a few questions for current owners...

1. How is the reliability? Any need to purchase an extended warranty?

2. Related to #1 , have folks with older oppo players experienced any issues? If so, what?

3. Concerning connections: I currently have a PS3, dvr, and a br player (which the 103d would replace) all connected via hdmi to a denon x4000 and a single hdmi from the denon out to the TV.
How would I route the hdmi cables if I wanted to send video from everything through the oppo to take advantage of the Darbee? Would I take the hdmi out of the denon into the oppo but still need to use both hdmi outs, one to the TV and one back to the denon for audio? Am I thinking about this right?

I'll probably have more questions, but I'll start with these for now. Thanks in advance!

1) IMHO, there is no need to purchase an extended warranty.
The player has a nice full 2 year warranty when purchased, and after that warranty expires, Oppo has excellent pricing
on out of warranty repair, and IIRC, you can still purchase an extended warranty after your original warranty expires.

2)I'm sure lots of people have had some issues here and there, but no product out there is perfect.
There will always be a certain percentage of devices that have issues, and that is why it is important to buy a
product with a good warranty and customer support.
In the case of Oppo Digital, they are at the very top in customer satisfaction and have top notch support.
Their products are also very reliable, have longevity to their lifespan, are built and engineered to high standards,
and also have a very high resale, even after they have been bought and used for several years.
In the rare case that you do buy one of their players and experience an issue,
as said above, you would be taken care of better than any other mainstream electronics manufacturer out there.
I know that may be laying it on a little thick, but quite honestly, enough can't be said about their customer service and
support and reliability. They really are the best.

3) It really all depends.
First, you probably won't be able to route a/v from your Denon into the Oppo and then back out to the Denon.
That will create a nasty loop where you won't get proper a/v.
I am not a big gamer and don't own a PS3, but the consensus that I have read from others, is that you really don't
need to route your PS3 through the player. Most say that gaming doesn't benefit from the player processing very much,
and not only that, but you may create a/v lag which could screw with your gaming experience.
It's better to route the PS3 though as few destinations as possible.
You're probably good with routing just through the Denon only.

As for the DVR, and possibly any other cable/sat stb, you can route that through one of the 2 HDMI inputs that the player offers.
Very similar to how you Denon might work in the same way, you would route it though the player,
and when you want to view that source through the player, you will have to switch the input of the player
to HDMI-FRONT or HDMI-REAR depending on where you have it connected and which source you want to view.
Keep in mind also, that when using this method, you do have to have the player turned on.
So if you want to route your DVR through the player, connect it to the rear HDMI input of the player,
and then the HDMI out from the player would go into your Denon, and then the HDMI out from your Denon into your TV.

^ This is probably the very same way you have your old BD player set up, but just the only difference being that
you are sending the DVR into the player instead of into the Denon.

Thanks @Smarty-pants. I've read a lot of great things over the past few years about oppo's cust. support and it's one of the main reasons for considering this player.

I'm not a big gamer so it's not a big deal if it runs through Darbee or not. I don't have any noticeable lag now so no point in adding any.

Thanks for clearing up the wiring situation for me. I didn't know if passing the signal from the oppo through the avr would degrade anything, but since I have all the picture enhancements off anyway I guess it shouldn't matter and will just pass the pic with Darbee goodness unmolested. I was planning on waiting to try and find one used, but I'm not seeing one in the classifieds or on agon so I may just go ahead and pull the trigger.

Thanks for the help!

Oppo also sometimes sells refurbished models.
Pretty much everyone who has purchased one from them reports they are indistinguishable from a new one,
and they also come with the same full 2-yr warranty, so the only risk is saving some money.
I think of of the ones they sell that way are just from customer returns who try the player and then send it back.

Their online store shows they don't have any in stock right now, but you can also send them an email or call them and ask.
It's possible they may just have one on hand, or you can keep checking the page where they list them.
They don't always show the page on their website, but here's the direct link.

Hello. I am using the oppo android app on my 103D and works awesome.
Just one inquiry: when I connect the oppo using the android application via network to my pc and browse its video folders, when the folder has lots of subfolders, the app only shows certain number of these folders and not all of them. It seems like if there is some quantity limit showing folders when browsing from the app (not when I use the current oppo browse app on the tv or projector screen).
Any one could tell me if this is normal or is there any way to let the application show all the folders in stead of a few ones? Thanks

From those of you that actually own a 103 or 103 d, have you ever had to return it or send it in for service during the 2 year warranty? Do you think the 3rd year warranty is needed? I know it's electronics and electronics break but just trying to get an idea before putting in the order. Thanks in advance.

I see speeddeacon's response above to another person, just trying to get a few more responses.

I'm sure you'll get varied opinions on purchasing extended warranties for electronic devices. About the only extended warranty I ever purchased for electronics are my tv's, since I don't upgrade them very often. On my last two tv's, I was thankful I had an extended warranty (one tv failed 2 years and another 4 years after purchase). My Oppo player is already passed the 2 yr warranty, and I have not had any break downs. I say you don't need it with the Oppo player.

Hi Guys,

Just wondering about the OPPO's (103d) scaling capability -

I had connected my cable box to the OPPO's HDMI IN, set the OPPO's resolution to 1080p while my cable box set to native resolution.

When my cable box broadcasts in 576i i can not see any improvement by the OPPO? do i miss anything?

Thanks!

Yaniv

What sort of improvement is missing? Is the player not deinterlacing or scaling, or is Darbee processing not happening?

Are you sure the cable broadcast is capable of dramatic improvement? The player can't add what isn't there in the first place.

Hi All,
Received an Oppo BDP-103d today as a Father's Day present. Very impressed with the overall image quality however I could not see any real difference with Darbee engaged on my 65" 4K Sony TV (I sit around 4.5m away). This however all changed when I switched the Oppo over to my projector displaying on a 102" screen. The Oppo is connected to both the TV and Projector via a DVDO Duo. With Darbee set to Hi-Def and 45 there is a noticeable improvement in the image. Fine detail was greatly improved which gave the impression of the overall image being sharper. Very pleased so far with the Oppo.

One minor question, I change the front panel display brightness from dim to standard, but next time I power the Oppo back on, the panel is dim again? All other setting are saved ok.

Regards,
Stephen

Try setting the value in Setup -> Device Setup -> Front Panel Brightness.

Deep colour mode wrong setting - blank screen

Hi I've got myself in a bit of a pickle and can't get out of it. BDP 103D when the TV was on via players setting - HDMI settings,I changed the Deep colour mode to 36, obviously my TV didn't support this and the screen went blank. Now I can't get the set up menu on the screen to re set the setting that I made.
Any help much appreciated
Thank you

Got my 103d today. Man, this is one of the nicest unboxing experiences I've had. Double boxed, wrapped in a shopping bag (thought it was a carrying case for the player until I read the bag), solid remote, quality accessories. It's twice the size of the samsung c5500 it's replacing and is much more substantial feeling.
Got it set up and been tinkering with the darbee. I didn't even have to set up the network connection, it just worked, and it's very quick connecting to Netflix, etc.
However, I can't for the life of me get the harmony 1100 to switch inputs correctly. I have my dvr plugged into the hdmi rear port and it still fails to select the correct input whether I have it set to bluray player or last input. I've always run into this same problem with my harmony remotes (1100, 650) when it involves scrolling through inputs on tvs and now the Oppo. I've read the FAQ and obviously still not doing something right. I know this is more of a harmony issue, but any advice is appreciated!

Thanks bob, I see what you mean with the Oppo remote.
Under Review the settings for this activity (Watch Tv), I select "Yes, but I want to add more control of options and devices for this Activity", asks for the input for the Oppo and select "hdmi in-back".
When I try to add an action to add for the Oppo, I only have the option to select a specific Input, no option for pressing '3'.
Text Font Line Technology

Is there somewhere else that would have that option?

Harmony lists the 103/105 series Oppos as "Oppo Home Theater" and has different listings for the other Oppo players. When I created a activity for the 103D it offered me the option of switching the Oppo to a specific input. I chose not to use that and have the Oppo set to start with "last input" instead. But in theory you can set up different activities in a Harmony for each of the inputs in the Oppo. Apparently there are discrete codes for each input.

^ There's a whole Forum here at AVS where the Harmony experts hang out and can help you. Basically you need to change the part of your configuration that defines how Input changes are handled from scrolling to direct button combos. I.e., the Input button followed by a digit.

That will be under the Device stuff for the OPPO, not in the Activities.

Are there any concerns with using the Dual HDMI output in Split A/V? I'd like to send the video directly to my display and the audio to my pre/pro. Just wondering if anyone has encountered problems which I might take into consideration. Ideally, I want to avoid sending video through my pre/pro.

#7,793 ·
So, in a situation where the split must be done (rather than by choice), have lip sync problems been overcome using the settings in the AVR/prepro?

I'm not going to send video along 30' of HDMI cable, whether active or not, if I don't have to. I've got to believe that I'm not the only one looking to use a front projector. Additionally, those who use a Radiance are advised to avoid routing video through a prepro. It's nothing new. I just wanted to get some expert feedback.

hey everyone. I recently took delivery of my 103-D. I want to make sure it is setup right for blu-ray watching. I am getting low audio out of my 5.1 system when listening to HD tracks on blu-rays. Please advise if anything needs changed in my settings. Thank you

In the last image you've got Output Volume set to Variable and Power On volume set to 40. How are you getting audio to your amp/receiver?

Those settings control analog audio output. If you're using the analog outputs and you're controlling the volume at your amp/receiver, you're feeding it a very low volume output from the Oppo and you'll never reach full volume levels. If you're going to use the volume control on the amp/receiver, then set Output Volume to Fixed and you should get a lot higher output from your speakers. Make sure you turn the volume on the amp/receiver down first before changing this setting because if you've been running the amp/receiver at a high volume level to try and compensate for the low output you will really notice a big jump in level when you change the Output Volume setting to Fixed. Your volume level will jump around 30 dB when you change Output Volume to Fixed if you have Startup Volume set to 40 and aren't using the Oppo's volume control.

On the other hand, if you're controlling volume via the Oppo's volume control what volume level do you have the amp/receiver set to? If you have the amp/receiver set for a low listening level that will put a limit on the maximum level you can achieve. Also make sure you aren't limiting the amp/receiver's output with a low maximum volume setting because that would also stop you getting maximum output from the amp/receiver. You could turn the volume level and/or maximum volume setting up at the amp/receiver and still use the Oppo's volume control but I think the best solution in that case would be to change Output Volume to Fixed and control volume at the amp/receiver instead unless there is a reason for not doing so, such as running directly from the Oppo into a power amp. In that case the Oppo's volume control is the only volume control you have which will control outputs to your speakers and you sub to allow their volume levels to remain matched at all times.

I have no idea what might be the problem if you're passing audio to a receiver via HDMI.

Hey, I'm feeding the audio to the receiver via HDMI. I have the Denon X-1200w and use HDMI out 1 on the Oppo to the HDMI In on the Denon receiver. Do I still need to change the volume control on the Oppo to "Fixed" for this?

Also, I noticed that you have to select a crossover, then it has a speaker room calibration setup similar to my Denon Receiver with Audssey (I'm not sure what Oppo uses). It doesn't mess with anything if I am using HDMI right? I think it mentions on the Oppo that this calibration is only for analog outputs.

Thanks again!
