It's unfortunate you're having issues.

My point was to say that I use my player daily and use quick start religiously and to date have not had any issues, and my player is part of the early run batch.

I hear your points for sure. :-)

I have two S6200's. My main one is turned on almost every day(I got this within a few weeks of launch). While my secondary one is used two or three times a week. I use quick start on both of them and neither one has crashes.

Best to watch the assumptions. Ive had one since they came out and watch a lot of movies, also youtube and other streaming. No problems yet. I also do not use quick start.

well I have had the 6200 for about 3 weeks now and this baby plays everything I throw at it. And streaming is outstanding. And like a few others I also have Quick Start set to on and have experienced no issue's what's so ever. The 6200 is turning out to be one of the best Blu ray players I have ever owned so far. Happy as hell with it.

Looks like the Sony Style stores are starting to get the BDP-S7200 in stock. I was in the store today to check out the 6200, and the guy pulled out a 7200 out of the back. It definitely looks better and feels more substantial than the 6200. I'd love to pick one up,but at $400, I think I'd rather pay $100 more for an Oppo.

It does seem that the 7200 is available for purchase on the UK Sony site. That same site also makes it seem like the player can play 4k blu-ray discs...not just upscale them.

San Diego, CA 92108.

He would have sold it if I wanted it. The manager opened one up to show me and just made a display out of that one.

I'm in LA. They closed all but one Sony store here. I'll give that store a call tomorrow...

Thanks for alerting the class :-)

Flipper is right. $400 is way too much for a machine that is so very close to the 6200, currently selling for around $150. $400 is also way too close to the price of an Oppo.

What 4K Blu-ray Discs? They don't even exist yet do they? Did they even finish ratifying the specs yet for 4K BDs?

I was thinking the same thing. Wonder what they mean by "Watch movies in 4K Ultra HD" and "Experience the detail of 4K Ultra HD resolution and upscale your existing Blu-ray disc collection"?

I am guessing it just upscales...

There are two reviews of the 7200 up on the UK Amazon site. Not a whole lot new there, but one does mention a website where a 7200 that plays US-region discs can be purchased--->multiregionmagic.co.uk

So, for those with money itchin' to be spent...

Oh, and there is this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/BDP-S7200-Bl...m_cr_pr_sims_t
Title says it plays multiple regions, but smaller print says otherwise...

7200's manual is up: http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/BDP-S7200

DSEE is mentioned nowhere in the manual but DME is...

It only upscales to 4K...no mention of playing 4K discs.

The playable video and audio formats are identical to the ones listed in the 6200's manual (at least based on my comparison...someone else is welcome to get out their fine-tooth comb).

The playable discs list is identical to the 6200's also.

It seems that we are back to (besides the case) there being no difference between the 6200 and 7200.

Anyone else find a difference?

Hi folks!

I'm about to buy one of sony's BD player but i can't dicide wich one, options are:

s4100 for 73€
s4200 for 85€
s5200 for 89.99€

Priorities here are PQ and sound, i don't care about Wifi 4k upscaling and features, plex is cover by my 2012 LG plasma and my AVR (Yamaha RX-V475) supports Dolby TrueHD Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD Master Audio.

As you can see prices are very close but performance wise is it worth it to get the s5200 over the others?

That's been stated here all along. The case reminds me of my old s790...

I think Sony saw this thread and said "we can sell this model in the states to some suckers who want the fancy case"... :-)

Thanks for the links...

Amazon in the US has them in stock also.

Have you had a chance to compare the 2? Is the extra money worth the upgrade over the 6200? I have a need for a 2nd player in my bedroom so I may move my 6200 in there or get another 6200.

its literally the same machine. the unit feels quality akin to the 790 if you have ever had that. solid, has some heft, but the GUI is the same. the options are the same.

Out of the box there was an update from .0112 to .0116. no idea what was updated.

if I go into the netflix settings (the sprocket on the netflix gui) it registers the 7200 as the bdp-s6200. now this could be because i have the 6200 and the server needs to update once the unit has been online. i will check this in a couple days to see if its changed.

of course i always use quick start, and it DOES seem quickstart is faster to boot up than the 6200. i press the button and the sucker turns on and goes to the home page before my finger has totally lifted off the power button. my media servers are near instant displayed on screen also. I do have this unit wired.

i will move the 6200 into a different room.

let me stress, the BUILD QUALITY is EXACTLY what one expects from a top of the line player. I moved the directv box to a different shelf just so this machine can have its own shelf.

Thanks. Why is this player so expensive? What does it have over the A LOT cheaper little brothers? Hard to justify an additional $200 for just the casing.

good question. Unless the insides have gold or some rare earth metal, i don't know why it is so much more expensive. Perhaps the build of these units is more costly and maybe catered to a higher end class of consumers (those who have the $$$ to get a premium 4K display and want a sleek looking BD player to complement).

I'm close to picking up a second player, other than blu-ray these do Netflix very well and I'd love to throw one in the bedroom for streaming. a 7200 in the living room and moving the 6200 into the bedroom would not be bad, but I wanna see what price does if they start releasing them.

Along that same line of thinking, if I only need 2D blu-ray playback (rare), amazon, youtube and netflix streaming, the 3200 is also a fine choice?

With the 7200 and 6200 being pretty much the same except for looks I don't see the justification to buy the 7200. So I will stick with my 6200. Its going to be my last Blu ray player for a long while.

That is kinda where I am leaning. I mean the 6200 does everything I need in my main HT (2D blu-ray, Netflix, youtube) well. If I need another unit for streaming in the bedroom, I should spend less and get a 3200 I think.

The problem is that even with $400, S7200 fails to decode Dolby TrueHD for mkv file and with m2ts it only support 2.0 and not 5.1 output or even 7.1 for that matter for the streaming video. If people really want to spend that much money, then it's better to add another $100 and get Oppo BDP-103 instead.

I just opted to buy a 1200 for the bedroom. 6200 is more than enough for my HT, and the 1200 will serve nicely as a streamer. Router is right there so I can just run a short eth cable and let er rip.
