The Sony Website comparison of these 2 models specs supports my post...
the manual contradicts the website specs. Go figure.

there are a couple of people on this thread WHO HAVE THE 7200 and many who have the 6200...

rather than rely on what some PR dept. wrote in a manual, ASK the respective owner of each model to test out a file.

im an early adopter as many of you are on here, and in regards to some older players that would launch, people would send me a file to test to see if a particular player played it. this would solve any further questions on the subject.

so instead of saying "well the website says this" or "the manual says that", just send a file to me (ive a 7200) and ill see if it will play. send the same file to a 6200 user and compare.

BOOM!

ill say this as many others have said (again), other than AESTHETICS the 7200 is THE SAME PLAYER as the 6200. they both PLAY the same thing. if one doesn't play it, the other wont either.

prove (or disprove) my theory now. If I'm wrong, I'll eat my tie!

I constantly see people in this forum state that the 6200 and the 7200 are the exact same player, just in different cases, is this correct? Doesn't make much sense for Sony to charge an extra $220.00 just for the different case. So, what inside knowledge is it that you guys possess, that you are able to make this claim. I am considering buying the BDP-S7200, and you make me a bit nervous about that.

Please read the manuals for both players and/or ask the respective owners to test something out you are curious about...

So far, no one has come up with any difference other than the case.

Hi

I'm looking into buying a Blu ray player for the first time and i don't have a huge budget, £50-60 (70 at a push) but i really want one that plays multi region DVDs too. I've been looking online and going in circles, so many people seem to have different thoughts about the same models, but does the Sony BDPS1200B play multi region DVDs or can it be made to or do i need to buy a more expensive modified version online?

Any help would be much appreciated!

My 6200 also had the same issue with Avitar 3D. Switching colors very quickly. About half way it settled down mostly. Maybe the disk or the player. But Avitar 3D is the only place I've seen it.

I took your thought and hooked up to my little Verizon "Jetpack" wireless thing that I sometimes use for travel. Problem solved! I downloaded all the apps list. Then I was able to hook up to my home network and log into Netflix, Hulu, etc.

I have to say that I sure prefer how Samsung apps are arranged on the screen compared to Sony. It took a lot of searching to find apps with Sony.

Butch666, thanks again.
I got that issue resolved and then when I tried to play something in Netflix or Hulu it would start to download get to 99% and then just hang. I contacted Sony again and, predictably, that gave me the "Universal solve all" answer "Factory Reset" answer. I had already done that so I took the Sony back yesterday and got my refund.

I am throwing in the towel. I know everyone on here poo poo's Samsung products but I am giving serious consideration to just going back to it. At least it works and I can get it networked. I've got a few things going on next few days but then I am back in the hunt for a different BR player.

So there was some discussion about how the s6200 might/could compare to the Oppo 103. I have the 103 and I am thinking about selling it on and either getting a s6200 or the s7200.

Are there any ex Oppo owners here that chopped their's in for the Sony? (Yes, I know there's a Help me Find thread....)

I have noticed sometimes when streaming Netflix with the BDPS6200 that the audio really rasps on the letter S. Noticeably distorted. I hit display and see it is running in Super HD. I let it persist for a bit to make sure I wasn't just hearing things, but it was definitely there. It went away after a couple minutes then happened again later in the week. The only solution I've found is to pause it for a few seconds and it usually does not return. I have not tweaked around with the audio settings much much to see what's up. Thought I'd drop in for a quick search and to report.

Outside of that this has been a very good player.

Is that bitstreaming or with the Sony player decoding? Some receivers have issues with the DD+ that Netflix changed to when they lowered their bitrate. When I had a Denon 3808, that was one of the receivers that had the issue. So I used the DIgital Music enhancer on my SOny S6200. It would decode the DD+ and then re-encode to DD. Which got rid of the "s" issue. I recently upgraded to a Denon 4520. Denon had upgraded the firmware om that receiver to fix the issue so I no longer have the problem when bitstreaming DD+ from Netflix.

For playing Blu-rays, there is no difference in either picture or sound quality. There might be a slight difference in DVD up scaling capability, but I'm not sure which comes out on top or if it is even noticeable. Sony's streaming apps are updated more frequently, but the Oppo has more options for streaming local media. The main difference though, is the dual HDMI inputs and outputs and the 7.1 channel analog outputs that the Oppo has and the Sony does not. Some people find these useful.

Not true for UK models as file playback via USB is different. Download respective user manuals and read the specifications section:

Hmmm, that's a nice idea, but I only have 1 TV to use them on.

If the s7200 can stream the same way the Oppo does, has most (if not all) of the apps that the Oppo does and I can sell the Oppo, cover the costs of the s7200 and have some left over, then that's what I'm kind of thinking about.

What I really should have done was to have kept my old phat PS3 and not bothered. But it was old and had died on me once, which required sending it back to Sony.

Maybe I should go look for a late model PS3 and be done with it....

Your receiver has 6 Hdmi outputs so go for it.

I will have to dig deeper when I visit my mom's place. We had streaming issues galore with a different player, but were able to test they'd stream fine in SuperHD on the pc to specific CDNs. Long story short this is on a fiber optic network and after wanting extra streaming options (media) the 6200 was chosen.

They actually have a Denon as well. I know I have a 3805 at home, but I can't recall what their's is...newer. I'll have to dig in over there and see if it has any updates as well.

I remember the (or some) enhancement option within the sony player like that when I was initially giving it a field test per say, that perhaps I remember turning off prior to noticing the problem...

Time just gets in the way.

Thanks for your response! I'll try to report back once I confirm what the resolution was.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not worried too much about DVD because I don't have any. How about the 5200 stack up with oppo 103 ? Since 6200 is not available in my country just yet .

There are quite a few differences between the 6200 and 5200 which are detailed above and in post #1 of this thread. Again, PQ and SQ for Blu-Ray plackback would be indistinguishable. The 5200 lacks 4K upscaling, dual processors, SACD playback, and support for a number of hi-res music formats that the 6200/7200 and Oppo 103 support. Plus, just like the 6200/7200, the 5200 lacks the dual HDMI inputs and outputs and the 7.1 analog outputs that are included with the Oppo.

Don't know much about the 5200 but I do know that the 6200 stacks up really well next to the Oppo 103.

How does the s6200 stack up against the sammy h6500? The H6500 was loud and its PQ was not as good as my old Sony S790.

Plus, just like the 6200/7200, the 5200 lacks the dual HDMI inputs and outputs and the 7.1 analog outputs that are included with the Oppo.
Thanks again for your informative reply. Time to hunt for the Sony BDP-6200 .
