Strange BR Player problem

I would like to solicit advice on a recent problem I haven't seen before. All of a sudden my Sony BR player is acting up. It plays a disk successfully but my Denon video processor won't pass the player's home screen. The home screen is the one with the apps and the menus for all the settings. It's as if the disk puts out a different stream than the home screen does and the Denon likes one stream but not another. The sequence is that the hdmi cable from the BR player goes to my Onkyo receiver then on to the Denon video processor that then sends it to the projector.

It did a similar thing with another BR player, an older Samsung. With this one it wouldn't bring up the Netflix app when I pressed the Netflix button when the prompt appeared. This was after I had stopped the BR disk during playback.

Any ideas? Does a BR disk have a different identifier or something than the player's home screen?
