CES 2016 UHD Blu-Ray player thread

Thought we could start a thread where all UHD Blu-Ray players that are announced at CES 2016 can be gathered in one place.

Credit to Viking61 and hirevn for collating this:

Samsung UBD-K8500 - Early March - $399.99
http://www.samsung.com/us/video/home-audio/UBD-K8500/ZA

Philips BDP-7501 - Spring 2016 - under $399.99
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topi...d-hdr-blu-ray/

Panasonic DMP-UB900 - Spring 2016 - less than 1000 Euro

Nice! Haven't bought a Samsung BD player in a while, but I might just have to add them to my list. Now PLEASE make some 4K/HDR announcements, Oppo!

Oppo has been hinting at Fall 16 for awhile. Considering their normal Oct/Nov release, Id plan on that

Also receiving Ultra HD Premium certification is Panasonic’s forthcoming DMP-UB900 Ultra HD Blu-ray player. We first saw a prototype from the company exactly one year ago at CES 2015, but it’s only now that a retail version for countries outside Japan has been announced. The Panasonic DMPUB900 is slated to arrive in the UK and Europe in spring 2016, with the price likely to exceed £500.

I have the Samsung BD-J7500 upconverting 4k player, and I must say that so far it has been a rock solid player and I can find no fault in it.

When BD first arrived on the scene, I had the BDP1000 player (the first). After that nightmare I swore I'd never have another Samsung BD player in the house. Just goes to show never say never.

That being said, it doesn't mean that their UHD Blu ray player isn't going to be a turd, but I think they've come a long way since the early days.

Going to get one from Crutchfield and test the waters.

Oh, I didn't mean to infer anything bad about Samsung BD players at all. I simply meant that I literally have not bought any for some time. Haha. Had at least half a dozen of them over the years and never have had any issues, so they're fine in my book. Haven't been my favorite players either, but they haven't been bad. I'd be happy to be the guinea pig for their new UHD players for sure.

The Panasonic looks identical to the version launched for the Japanese market a couple months ago. I really dislike the flip down cover in the front. Usually those doors are flimsy and cheap feeling and get left in the down position most of the time anyway. With Samsung and Panasonic announced, I'm interested to see the Sony player later tonight although I assume its build quality is going to be in line with the rest of their disc player lineup, i.e. light and plastic. My first DVD player was a Sony S9000es which weighed 27 pounds and was built like a tank. Those days are gone but I miss when CE companies built things to be durable.

Waiting for Sony's announcement (am in the UK so will be a late night).

Hoping they too, like Samsung have dual HDMI.

Annoyed to here March is a release date for a player so far.

4k TVs have been out way too long before decent content can be played on them.

Streaming just isnt up to scratch in my opinion.

Oh, there are some great players that are still built like tanks, but they aren't gonna be your $50 Walmart offerings.

UHD BR versus 4K?

I need some help getting up to speed here.
There are current BR Players which can play 4K discs. What will be so much better on Ultra HD Players?

Current blu ray players can't play 4k discs. They can up convert current blu ray to 4K. Big difference.

I am hoping for something from Sony or Pioneer, really liked my old pioneer player. If everyone else is going to be 6+ months out I will probably pre order the Samsung.

Doh! I just saw the pic of the new Samsung player and it's curved to match their TVs. Just like their goofy looking cheap curved player they already have. Personally I HAAAAATE that look. I hope they come out with a "normal" version that won't look completely stupid in a rack or on a standard shelf.

I have to admit I don't much like the aesthetics of the Samsung player either (and my current Samsung player has been great). I'm waiting for more details on the Panasonic and then I'll make a decision. I don't think I'll buy Sony no matter what (and I had their very first DVD player, which was quite a technological achievement).

I just preordered the Samsung UBD-K8500 from Best Buy and it has a 2/21 delivery date. That may be incorrect, but that's what they're showing at the moment.

Ugh, the Samsung player is 16" width, this annoys me as my custom cabinet only has enough room for 15" width lol.

Was the dual HDMI outs mentioned in a release? I did not hear that in the announcement that I watched during the live news conference.

Yes - unless they start out at the 105's price
Hopefully they will have 2 versions like the 103 and 105 otherwise the price will definitley be prohibitive - atleast to me. I was going to buy the 103 last month but decided to wait until they release a 4k player.

Look man, Ive owned a 93, 103 and 103D. You can go roll your eyes elsewhere.

It's just plain goofy to sit around waiting on Fall and not enjoying UHD blu NOW. I fully intend on getting a player now, and then the Oppo in the Fall. Ya know, you can actually do BOTH.

But, if you want to sit on high and mighty build quality principles and wait 7 months to start watching UHD movies, it's your loss!

And you might be better suited in the "man I wish the next Oppo would have X" thread instead of this one...
