BTW, a large number of people in this thread no longer own a BR player of any kind, and are thusly off topic.

Big Thumbs Down.

I very much wanted to like BD and after a month and 10 different BD movies, I took the whole lot back to CC last Saturday. Hopefully Sony will get their act together soon and if they do, I will take a look at the next BD player to come out.

For now, HD DVD will do.

The BDP-1000 went back to Best Buy yesterday. Fiancee was giving me the "I told you so" look the whole time, even though she was also a bit disappointed because she is more excited about the Blu-ray titles that are currently available.

BDP-1000 was connected to a 40" Bravia (XBR) through a Denon AVR-4806 via HDMI, as is an HD-A1.

BDP-1000 did not impress like HD-A1 does. This may be due to poor titles, flawed hardware, or both, but bottom line is the blu-ray experience wasn't what I expected it to be.

BDP-1000 also didn't function well as upconverting DVD player. It suffered from the undesired display of closed captioning and required the entry of a parental code upon power-up when a DVD was in the player despite the fact that the parental limit feature was - with absolute certainty - turned off.

A complete lack of clarity as to the nature of the issues being discussed in the forums here didn't help my confidence in the player either.

Being an early adopter does not necessitate the ownership of equipment that doesn't work properly. Rapidly obsoletion - sure. Incomplete feature sets - sure. Even poor physical construction during inital production runs is par for the course. Failure to perform basic duties as advertised and expected - no way.

Blu-ray gets one more chance with me, but I'm currently bearish.

Keeping it. I've seen too many titles that look great to blame the format and/or player on a disc that looks bad.

Agreed 100%. This poll is bogus.

There's no way in hell 304 people bought Blu-ray players.

I agree. Polls on this forum are to be taken with a grain of salt :)

It really doesn't matter.

It's a useless internet poll.

Except that some people like to cite it as evidence that things are as bad as they want them to be. Or good in other cases.
