I just called my local dealer that I have one pre-ordered from, Starpower here in Dallas. They told me the new date they are expecting them in is "sometime next month." That was the best date they had. I've had the player pre-ordered since February and they made me put 50% down on it. At this point I won't be surprised if I don't see it till next February. But I guess I'd rather Sony gets it bug free off the bat than release a falty product.

Congratulations. You have just discovered the secret message. Please send your answer to Old Pink, care of the Funny Farm, Chalfont.

You're not kidding. And it's turning into a longer one every day. :) I pre-ordered it the day they made them available. I figured the Sony player was probably going to be the way to go since they developed the format. We'll see if my gamble was rigtht one of these days. Though since it sounds like Pioneer is making the player I guess that theory didn't really hold anyway.

You also can cancell the order for a full refund. FTC rules require that if the product is not available and is delayed they have to inform you like sony did to me and give you the option to cancel for full refund, If you want a samsung you can get it for 799 at circuit city.

they ARE giving away free Fifth Element discs w/ the their new player! I thought everyone was joking about that!
The issue for the format war should no longer be only about technical abilities since both formats can delivery sterling PQ and AQ. It should be about which format do you TRUST to carry the HighDef optical disk torch. HD-DVD or Blu-ray. Which organization has made better decisions? Which organization has been consumer-friendly? Which organization has better judgement? Which organization has lower mnaufacturing costs? Which organization has set the standard for quality? Which organization produces a more consistently high quality product? Which organization meets it's delievery dates more often, and when it misses, misses by less? Which organiziation has the better management team? Which organization puts identifiable insiders onto the AVS and solicits and covets the opinions of the early adopters?

Which organiziation has shown by their actions from day one that they can be entrusted to protect and nourish the fledgling HighDef disc format so that it will succeed, just like DVD did?

That is the format that must win.

That will be Blu-Ray then. :p

Microsoft only want HD-DVD to win so they can power their Codec onto BD.

Toshiba only want to win because Microsoft pushed them into it so Microsoft could release its 360 add on to curb the popularity of PS3.

Universal only wants HD-DVD to win to P1$$ on Sonys chips because they got burnt with UMD.

HD-DVD supporters have been well seduced.

WRONG on all counts:

1. Microsoft can guarantee they make money on HD DVD since all titles will use VC-1. There's no guarantee that future BD titles will use VC-1 regularly. As to how much the "piss Sony off " factor comes into play is obviously not known.

2. Toshiba wants to win because they want their share of the pie. With Blu Ray, they don't make anything.

3. Universal supported HD DVD because they felt the DVD name would entice J6P to buy their movies.

No animals were harmed in the creation of this sentence.

Maybe HD-DVD owners prefer to be seduced rather than getting a snow job from an uncaring mistress (i.e. Sony)!

Unless I'm missing something here and the title's been recently re-mastered - or will be by the time the machine is released.
If this is the second issuing of the title in Blu ray and remastered it may not be too bad (I hope). But if its the same POS Filth Element then this is one of the worst promotional gimmick ever to sell a 1K electronic equipment.

I really, really hope Sony can come up with some kind of electronic wizardy (NOT sarcasm) to at least make the PQ look sharp or detailed on past releases. I want a Blu ray player in my component rack but Samsung and Panasonic (both returned) has disappointed.

The longer I'm Blu ray-less the more HD DVD titles I will be buying.

New article in "Digital TV Design Line" say the Sony BD player is delayed until at least December and maybe until after the first of the year. Here is the the link: http://www.digitaltvdesignline.com/s...leID=193401847

I think it is hilarious that Circuit City kicked HD DVD out the door....I imagine some Blu ray fan boy at CC was behind it just to piss off the HD DVD forum here:D.

And with their past decisions in supporting formats (Divx)...

This is great news for HD DVD!

Exactly...with the DIVX fiasco, they can better sniff out the losers before the huge losses accumulate.

Much in the way that Sony has been able to sniff out failed product releases? ;)
