You can now get a PS3 (20GB or 60GB) at amazon.com. Tax free and free shipping isn't a bad deal.

I got one the other day at a Wal-Mart and the stock hasn't moved.

I think it's safe to say that if you want one, you can get one now.

I think the bad news for Sony is that most willing to pay for one may already have.

Used to be (before the region free thing) most early adopters in Asia would buy NA models to make sure they can watch american movies.

The chinese region free and other region free hacks removed all that pretense.

Not here in northern California. I tried 3 Best Buys and they don't have them in the store. I have a $300 credit that I want to use.

You can order them from bestbuy.com now so it can't be long now.

Walmart, Target, Gamestop, no BB here, in my area have had them on the shelf for over a week. They don't seem to be selling well here either. If you ask, the responce is that customers are complaing about the high cost and walking away. Not to surprised really.

Ohh, if demmand is drying up in NA, that means the rest of the world launch in March may still happen.

It's not that demand is drying up, it's the production is finally meeting demand combined with after Christmas bills, and massive returns by system scalpers (as many as 7 per store).

Retail traditionally craps in January, surges will be back for the president's day sales, and then again when the college kids have their summer job money

Funny thing. Many stores around me actually have Wii's in stock today but are sold out of PS3's. I imagine the Wii's won't stay in stock very long though.

I hope a lot of scalpers took a bath on it. That's the best possible thing since I just got my PS3 at BB the other day.

Opposite around here. Plenty of PS3's, no Wii's.

I must say, i don't think there ever really was a shortage of PS3's, really... They all just ended up on ebay for 2-10x more than they're worth. Finding them on store shelves is one thing, but saying there's a shortage with a few thousand on ebay is another.

I saw one sitting at a Wal-Mart yesterday. Which wouldn't be a big deal, but this Wal-Mart normally has none of the "hot" items in stock.
The PS3 has been sitting on the Best Buy site for about a day now.
I would like to believe that Christmas bills are the reason they are not moving. But if someone wanted a PS3 they would still have that cash allocated to buying a PS3, even after Christmas.

Xbox Live: CaptCaveman
PSN: Captcaveman
Wii: some long number that I will never remember. Thanks Nintendo!

Amazon sold out of the 60 GB's rather quickly and now the 20GB is sold out as well.

For right now the 60GB PS3 shows up as the #2 seller in the Computer and Video Game section. The 20GB version shows up as the #5 seller. The XBOX360 add-on has been in stock each time I've checked for the last couple of days and is currently at #102. The remote for the PS3 looks like it is sold out and is down at #618.

Our Best Buy here in Manchester, CT had at least 12-15 PS3's for sale on the floor today. The price was $599. I would have to say there is no shortage in these parts.

The PS3's last a short time at Amazon when they have them. They had some last Friday for example for a few minutes.

The XBox add-on is almost always available at Amazon, a few times it has been out. It is always available someplace as far as I can tell.

When the PS2's came out, I bought two for my sons at Christmas through Ebay; I paid extra of course. After Christmas, they were much more available.

This should surprise no one.

What is clear is that Sony could have sold a lot more if they had been able to deliver them at launch. That does not mean that they won't eventually sell them.

The amazing thing to me is people who favor one system always finds the competitor collecting dust everywhere. But their system is always out of stock. Just amazes me. You guys need to help your fellow AVSers and let everyone know where they can just walk in and get these hard to find items. If you find a PS3, Wii, or Toshiba HD-A2 collecting dust somewhere, there needs to be a special thread where people can list the city and store so people can get these dusty items out of the way before they start causing people to have allergy attacks. And why are stores letting these boxes collect all this dust anyways. Someone needs to report the cleaning crew. Maybe then we can quit having so many threads with people trying to one-up the OP. Only in a perfect world. You may ask why I even looked in this thread. I just remembered I was asked to look online to see if mail order was a possibilty. I stopped by here first and saw this thread and decided to take a peek. My mistake.

It's not as popular as people made it out to be. Resale value (Ebay) price is typically a good source for determining popularity/pricing of a model. No resale value means that demand is being met by suppliers or supply is greater than demand (in that area). I can vouch that I have seen systems sitting on the shelves at my local stores. Combined with the demand for the Wii, the price of the PS3, lack of huge titles currently, and promos being run by MS for the 360 = PS3's sitting on store shelves.

What is clear that if Sony would have had more systems at launch they wouldn't have gotten the tremendous media buzz created by the shortage of systems. What a coincidence that days after Xmas the shortage/ resale market is gone.

It's the job of the salesman to give honest and accurate product info and let the customer decide if it fits their needs.

Take a look at the various deal forums and they will tell you where systems are located. Don't expect the Wii to stay in stock for very long, My neck of the woods they are still selling out in about 30 minutes from the time they are put on the shelf.

I have never seen a Wii in stock anywhere. Granted I don't go out looking as much as some here. And I would never camp out for the privilege of owning one.
