I've been on the fence about PS3.
The 1200 looks like a great bang for the buck in the current market.
If anyone has an update on availability and street pricing, please post asap.
Thanks

If/when this player can support 1080p/24 I will get one. My Pio plasma only support 1080p at 24.

Does it play CDs? IIRC, some blue-ray players don't.

How do you know for sure? Is this because of the decoder chip used?

Is this player still slated for a March release? March is just around the corner and it's not listed on BB or CC websites as coming soon.

Thanks!

I spoke with Abt Electronics yesterday who said they are showing a 2nd week in March release date. FWIW.

Robin: "You can't get away from Batman that easy!"
Batman: "Easily."
Robin: "Easily."
Batman: "Good grammar is essential, Robin."
Robin: "Thank you."
Batman: "You're welcome."

Ideally, the 1200 is the player I'd like to get...but I might chicken out and just get the 1080p Oppo to go with my budget v2500 HDTV.

I don't plan on buying BR movies anytime soon, so I have to think about the Oppo vs. Sammy as strictly DVD players for the time being.

God help me if the PS3 gets DVD upconverstion via firmware update, the A2 gets clearanced, or I start reading more about the 360 2nd gen unit, I'm already totally conflicted.

You are not alone. Many folks are going the Neltflix route -- same rates as SD. This is the low risk, low investment route to HD.

But it appears that BB has the '1000 with a $100 instant savings sale set for this weekend, which would seem like good news. If they're clearing out these players (can't be that many in the channel, can there?), one would hope it was because the new one is right around the corner...

I hope you're right about 1080p24.

You watch a Donnie Yen movie to watch what Donnie does best - kick-ass!

I emailed Abt about this unit yesterday. They stated that they did not have a estimated time for arrival. They did say that it would cost $749. I am getting a feeling that this is going to get pushed back. Any other 2nd Gen units coming in the near future?

The Panny does not look to be a second gen product. It's probably a current model with updated firmware. I think another thread was talking about how they're waiting to put out a real 2nd generation product later this year, or next.

Dan

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

Does anybody know if the bdp1200 will include the EZView options to vertically stretch an image for 2.35:1 projection? I tried talking to the customer service at Samsung today, but the rep I spoke with had no idea.

We believe you are incorrect and that the 1200 will do both TrueHD and DTS-HD. An international samsung website shows the latter as supported and an earlier poster quoted Dolby in the former regard. We will soon know for sure.

Let's talk women's hoops! The He-Devils have too many youngsters to contend this year.

Sorry if I offended you with 'incorrect"; your question appeared based on an assumption which we think and hope is inacurrate. I'm sure you will be glad if the info about the lossless formats being decoded is right.

Go Duke !
