This is something that I was worried about when DTS released their specs and names.

It is an utterly retarded thing to do by naming a lossy and lossless codecs that are so similar! I have to give DTS the double middle finger salute here.

Let's pray that we aren't stuck with 1.5 lossy cores forever on the Fox tracks because DTS might have to overhaul the entire thing.

No animals were harmed in the creation of this sentence.

Any idea when players with your new chip could be expected on the market?

Good news! Watched Crank yesterday and the BD10 does take the one rear channel and splits it into two mono rear channels. You won't hear sound out of only one speaker.

...are you talking with analog or HDMI? I'm about to watch it in an hour (with analogue), so that'll be good to know...

SimpleTheater can you Simplify this......

Are you trying to say...that the Rear Center on a 6.1 soundtrack is matrixed to your Left and Right Rears....

And if so how do you come to this conclusion in other words how do you know what Rear Center effects gets matrixed...since the Left and Right Rear get there own information probably very often at the same time.....

By choosing DTS 6.1 on the X/men 3 dvdmenu...the Panny menu states
DTS Multichannnel....I rather wish it stated DTS 5.1 cause that is the endresult for the time being until the firmware........now I come to think of it ..there has not been made any promisses concerning 6.1 let alone 7.1......

The Panny box simply stated DTS-HD and didnt specifically say master but I'm sure it hasnt gone un-noticed that the members here have specifically been posting and expecting the master audio firmware for many months now. I wonder why it took so long for someone to point out that it was incapable of this

I'm using analog out on the BD10 - not HDMI or optical. The Panny is not matrixing anything - something you get when a 5.1 track is matrixed to 7.1. What the Panny is doing is on a track where there is a single rear signal (e.g. 6.1 like Crank) it splits the rear channel and outputs two equal MONO signals. Some of us using the analog outputs were concerned that only the LEFT (or maybe only the RIGHT) would get the rear track - making for an annoying rear sound field.

Hope that simplifies it.

Yep I get it...I understood you correct only I use the term matrix here incorrect sorry

I do hope that it will be one of the first things they will solve .....

BTW how did you find out that Panny solved the 6.1 flaw in this way....

I can get it by going to the main unit but remote doesn't list open/close option, manual for basic play tells you to go to main unit. Downloaded codes for my Harmony 880 and "eject" doesn't work from that. What am I missing? Other codes via Harmony seem to work fine.

You can't eject by remote. It's a safety precaution in case you tried ejecting while the flip-down front panel was still up.

That explains it. No wonder I coudn't find anything in the manual or my Harmony "eject" didn't work.

Thank you for the heads up!

well, it's April, so we're all expecting expectantly the new FW update for this player... maybe this thread can also house discussion of the new FW as well (meaning it may just yet be "stuck" again...)

Although I registered my BD10 with Panasonic, I never received an email from them - let alone one that said the BIG firmware update would be available in April. I guess I'll believe it when I see it.

I sent my card in the day after I purchased my player and I have never received notice of a FW update. In fact when I have called or emailed they deny that one exists. I have had to rely on a fellow AVS menber to send me his disc.

Perhaps I misremembered.

There was a seperate card other than the warranty card included with my BD10 which was specifically for receiving a free FW update CD. Although I've had the BD10 for almost two months now, the card turned up about a week and a half ago and so I mailed it in even though I had already downloaded and installed v. 1.4. Late last week I received a letter, repeat letter, as in hard copy through the U.S. Mail, from Panasonic notifying me that there was to be a firmware update in April and that I should rest assured that I would receive a CD when they became available.

I can scan it an attach an image tomorrow if anyone thinks I'm kidding.

Here is a copy of the email I received after sending in the Panasonic firmware upgrade card:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your interest in the Blu-ray software upgrade offer for your model number DMP-BD10. This software release is not scheduled until April 2007. We have your address on file and will be sending it to you as soon as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Panasonic Fulfillment Dept.

Guys, you don't need no stinkin' notification. Just keep checking this link. The Panny firmware updates appear here first. This is the Panasonic global site in Japan (in English)

Thanks. The issue I raised is whether Panny ever committed to an April 2007 BIG firmware update. thebland indicates that it did.

I had never burned an update disc in my life but had no problem burning the 1.4 update. I was very impressed with Panasonic on this issue.
