My Samsung 1200 will not toggle to 1080p/24/yes. What am I doing wrong , anyone?

I am going into the Lumagen ProHDP scaler which is supposed to accept 1080p/24. It will only accept 1080i from the Samsung. When I select 1080p output res on the Samsung, it says my TV will not accept the signal. But when I select 1080p/yes anyway (I guess its 1080p/60) I can get a picture but its unstable/unwatchable.

My PJ is Epson Powerlite 1080p which will accept 1080p/24. I am using the Lumagen for vertical stretch for CIH 2.35:1.

I am seriously thinking of going format neuteral....Currently have the Tosh Xa-2...very happy with it.....As a movie lover,I want to have access to as may HD movies as possible and am,therefore, considering the BD-P1200..
Any input from owners of this model....and HD DVD XA-2 owners would be appreciated....
Actually, any comments from BD owners of this unit would assist in my making the decision...
Thanks

Hello,

two questions: is it possible to playback a BluRay at 720p over HDMI and can I switch the player at 220V?

Thank you!

First of all, I'm using a panaxonic ax100u projector with HDMI.

I received my samsung bd-p1200 last night and from B&H yesterday, and first off the picture quality is fantastic. I am comparing it to my oppo player. I watched my spiderman 3 trailer disc and WOW!

Then I watched "Talladega Nights", and that's where I ran into a problem. About 4 times during the movie a weird video artifact would happen. The first time it was just a flash of a single purple bar horizontally across the screen. Then another time it was a whole mess of green/purple lines. Each time these things appear, they go away in less than a second.

I've got it set up as 1080p/24 fps.

Also, I have the audio set to PCM, and the level is just fine. It might even be louder than my OPPO was.

Any suggestions?

Well, if you all ready own an XA-2 you don't really NEED another player that has top SD DVD processing. But then when you compare other blu ray players out there, the BDP1200 is one of the better values on the stand alone market right now. Plus, if you can get it from ****************, the price is close to 20% off for AVSers.

After seeing the score that Secrets gave the BDP1200, the link is a couple of posts above, I would not hesitate to buy the BDP1200.

Greetings,

I have the Sony Pearl and run the Sammy through an Anthem AVM-50 which has the Gennum VXP video processor onboard. I have the same problem in that the Sammy will not allow selection of "YES" the 24 Frame option in the display menu. If I run the Sammy directly to the Sony then there is no problem but running it through the scaler results in the above.

I have no problem with 1080p/60 etc.

I bought the 1200 based on its DVD playback, which is excellent. I also have a Toshiba HD-A20 but I use the Samsung when playing standard dvd's and it looks awesome.

Making the most out of what I got.

Yeah, even though Chris has finished testing the XA-2, they haven't posted the scores for it yet. Go figure!

Thanks Placidman, I have not tried running it directly to
the Epson, will give it a try. I am also going to try a couple things based upon advice from Lumagen support. Apparently there were similar problems with the Sony BluRay player not allowing 1080p/24 output . Lumagen did say I will get the same results running 1080i into the Lumagen and letting it output 1080p/24.

Just finished watching Deja Vu. It did freeze up 3 times. When it froze if you pushed pause and started playing again it would begin to work again.

This is the first glitch I have seen in this unit.

My Sammy arrived defective so I cannot try this but I also have the Lumagen. Try going into EDIT and choose user and turn on 1080 24. Turn off everything else in the list you are not using. Then leave the lumagen and projector on and reboot the sammy and see if it takes it.

Good luck!

Ha! Twice for me on this title and no other glitches on many other BD's and SD DVD's. Haven't played DV a second time to see if the issue repeats. (Yes, I know I shd do that.....)

I opened a thread in the BD forum, inviting comment on this issue with this title and got no consistent responses.

This was the same reason I went format neutral and picked up a BD-P1200 to go with my XA2. I am very pleased with both units. They do excellent upconversion (as you might expect since they both use the HQV chip), so when I watch SD DVD I just use whichever player I've currently got connected to the TV. They are essentially interchangeable for that. I am very pleased with the player for the most part (I wish it had a TrueHD decoder, but at least not many BD titles use TrueHD instead of uncompressed PCM). With an XA2 and 1200 you are in high definition heaven

'fraid not; only NTSC. The user manual expressly states that. Rather frustrating.

Gave up on VE today. No Robert, no BD-P1200's, and no idea as to when they will arrive at VE. I ordered one from Buy today, free shipping, and with a 5% coupon I had, I got it for about $50 less than price at VE. Buy displays item is *in stock* but we shall see....

I was told by VE that I was on the first list for shipment, so I don't know if anybody has received one from them...

I PM'ed Robert about this last thursday or friday and here is what he wrote back to me.....

"Thanks for your order and very nice PM. I am very sorry and embarrassed about our inability to get the early allocations of Samsung BD-P1200 players. Over the past month we have been promised by Samsung executives five times that our allocation is released and we still have not received even our first shipment.

At this time I have been assured that my first allocation will ship by the end of this week or sooner so I now am expecting the players no later than the week of May 14th or sooner.

Very sorry for the incorrect information, but we were just passing along what we were told."

I told Robert that I would stay with my order on Value Electronics...for now. I don't want to wait forever, but I do want to support his company as they have an excellent price, a good reputation and a advertiser on this site. Yes, I'm very anxious to get the 1200 in my hands, but waiting a bit longer won't hurt.

I picked up a BDP1200 today basically due to the Secrets review & a pretty good deal at BB. I have an HD-XA1 HD-DVD player and I was thinking about getting the HD-XA2 and moving the XA1 to the bedroom. One of the main reasons I was looking at the XA2 was for the SD-DVD capabilities. Well after reading the secrets review I decided it was time to support both formats. So far I watched the Spiderman sample disc and the NIN sample disc and things are looking good. I picked up Tears of the Sun as I thought I remembered that was one of the better overall discs available.

Now if I upgrade my XA1, I may get the A20 (or 3rd gen) instead of the XA2 since the Samsung has great SD-DVD playback. I am pretty excited knowing I can get either formats HD discs now.

Thanks Richard

They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.

Well, I bit the bullet. I bought a PS3 two days ago thinking it would be my best bet as a future proof BD player, but its not theater friendly (bluetooth remote, not IR), and sucks for SD DVDs. I ordered a BDP1200 today.

I'll probably return my PS3. If there's a reason to get one in the future, I can buy one then (probably a cheaper/better version anyway).

Thanks for the heads-up on this excellent player guys.

I had been planning to hold out for the Samsung 5000, their dual format player announced for Q4 this year. But the reports are that it will not have the Reon chip, and thus presumably not be as good on upconverting sd-dvds, has me very tempted to go with the 1200. Where is the best place to get it these days? I checked the Dell site, and their price is not so good at present. And VE doesn't seem to have any. ??

Thanks for the tip Patrick Bennett. I just ordered it from buy.com It should be here in a week or so. I would have preferred to get it from VE, however not in stock and they don't know when they will arrive.
