Thanks again for all your posts and insight.

Larry

Ordered August Rush tonight along with several others from Columbia House. Seems to be rated pretty well too. Will give it spin as soon as I get it. Thanks for the recomendation.

This is almost like the time someone recommended Pan's Labyrinth. Didn't know I have to read American to understand the whole movie. Imma going have a talk with Mr. Larry about this missing info?

Hi Barney,

I am sorry about that. I didn't want you to avoid this title due to "reading" the movie. My Wife needs sub-titles on for every movie or I have to increase the center speaker volume too high for my taste. I have grown to appreciate sub-titles for certain movies; LOTR comes to mind.

oh btw, the "pop" happens everytime I pause and play the movie again.

Thank God you liked this movie. Next time I'll remember to mention all the pertinent facts.

I have a denon 4308 with the 1400 and can't figure out how I get 7.1 sound on my BR movies. I went into the setup of the 1400 and it only has 5 speakers. My stereo is setup for 7.1. What do I need to do to take advantage of the 7.1 sound that the movies are putting out.

Thanks

Good news yesterday. Cloverfield AND There Will Be Blood coming first week of June! FINALLY Paramount is back on the Blu wagon! These are two of my most anticipated releases this year!

From the features sheet:

Built-in decoders for next-generation Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD high-resolution surround, plus lossless Dolby TrueHD (2-channel)

Dolby TrueHD not decoded in 5.1 or 6.1 or 7.1. Not sure DTS-HD HR is decoded in surround or not.

The speaker setup in the P1400 is for the analog outputs.

In setup, audio, you should set HDMI to Bitstream. That will transmit all audio channels to your denon 4308 and it will decode according to your codec selection in your BD movie disc setup.

mfabien,

I do have it set to bitstream so I guess I will need to check on the 4308 then. I am never hearing sound out of my back speakers. Do the blu-ray movies all have 7.1 sound?

Make sure you select "Audio setup" in the BD disc and choose from what is there.

Most Blu-ray movies are in 5.1. Few are in 6.1 and fewer in 7.1.

As the movie plays back, click "Info" on your remote and see what it says for Audio. That is what is being transmitted to your a/v.

Okay, so I am doing everything that I am supposed to be doing. i have done as you suggested and most say multi channel. On the 4308 it shows hd master, but no where does it say if the movie is 7.1. I know the speakers work, guess I just have to wait for some 7.1 movies. Thanks

You need to set the receiver on dolby pro2xcinema to get all four rear speakers going. it will matrix 5.1 but when 7.1 is present it will do 7.1. works great . love the receiver and 1400.

Hi rveras,

I have been following your saga at a distance and I am truly sorry for what SS has put you through. I purchased the 1400 as a re-frub to get me through until Christmas and a brand new profile 2.0 BR player.

BTW, when the time comes, I'll take that POS off your hands in lieu of the dumpster. However, I would understand if you need to hear that wonderful sound as the Sammy hits the bottom of the dumpster, you know, closure.

Hey jlenz,

Here is a great site for BR stats:

http://www.blu-raystats.com/stats.php

Just click on the audio drop down and sort by 7.1 titles.

I hope this helps!

Nah, everyone should know that to get real satisfaction in puting a component out of its misery, is to tie it to the bumper of your car and drag it down the road for miles. Make sure to secure it well, you don't want to lose it, because when you are done, you will then want to mail it to Samsung. Just include a little note that you want it fixed for free, and if they can't, then they can just shove it up their **.

So far after almost 2 weeks I've had no problems on my first two rented BD's (Windtalkers and Queen: Live in Montreal).
I watched Windtalkers with 1.6 firmware and the Queen concert with 1.7.
Excellent PQ on my 46" Sammy LCD and the sound was absolutely amazing with Windtalkers through my Onkyo 550 receiver.
I was darn near shocked at how good the Queen concert (which took place in '81) looked
Loading time is reasonable and seems to be faster than my old HD-A2.
My only complaint is that the LED display is kind of small and not bright enough for my liking (even with the setting on "bright"), so it's hard to read at times.
So here's keeping my fingers crossed that I continue to have no problems.

Larry, thanks for the link buddy. I'm keeping a little DB of my own. I was going to put it with the 1400 audio chart put couldn't really find the right place to put it. Without getting too far off topic, and since more and more folks are asking about the 7.1 surround sound phenom here and other threads, here's a quick list you can enjoy discrete (not matrixed) 7.1 surround sounds with your 1400. I've even added 6 more titles I didn't know have 7.1 surrounds from your link buddy.

btw, good call on the boomoo El Orfanto , with 7.1 Master Audio. The Wife will finish watching with me for my second time tonight.

Ya, what the heck is up with that display brightness. If I turn the brightness DOWN on my 2 other dvd players and my receiver, then the brightness is almost a match to the 1400s BRIGHT mode.

I've noticed that the brstats.com listing isn't 100% accurate with all their info, but it's mostly accurate. I can't remember what the mistakes were, but there are some, so reader beware.
A place that I used to buy from a lot was dvdempire.com. For some reason, a while back, their prices stopped being "competetive", so I haven't shoped there in a long time. One thing I do still go there for, is the cover scans. They are not there for all dvds, but they are there for 99.9% of them. Whatever dvd they have "on hand", they do an actual scan of the cover... front and back, and load it into their description. They're usually not there for "not yet released" titles, because they don't have them on hand. Anyway, my point is that you can go there and look at the back of the dvd covers to verify any info. Like "I heard that this disc has 7.1 sound"... so then you can go there and look at the cover to confirm what the cover reads.

Point taken el 7.1 surround sound policia ! Yea there were a couple there that were questionable, like Delta Farce. But the brstat dot com site did cross referenced the hi-def digest site and your favorite IMDB. I would say to reconfirm if it is true or not and I'll update my list. Let me know so I don't get arrested by the el 7.1 surround sound policia!

Hey Barney,

A couple more Guillermo del Toro's movies and you will be fluent in Spanish. BTW, the second viewing of The Orphanage is even better!

BTW, when the time comes, I'll take that POS off your hands in lieu of the dumpster. However, I would understand if you need to hear that wonderful sound as the Sammy hits the bottom of the dumpster, you know, closure.

I don't think the dumpster thing is going to work for me. I was thinking of getting some therapy of the thing by hitting it with a bat, ala "Office Space"

I am so glad I won 2 panny 10AK's off of ubid for $600 total. One of them I got the extended warrenty. I figure the two of them will do good for me.

I will likely sell one of them. I am just to frustrated with samsung and their cheap ass builds. They are going the route of the $49 player. I want better build and reliability.

I will never buy another samsung optical player again.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound unappreciative of your efforts. Just trying to offer up some good sources. Thanks for puting all the charts together here in the 1400 thread Barney. This thread would be mucho boring without you .

Ok, now you just need to cross reference them with the audio and video "tier" threads in the BR sofware forum, thus puting them in order according to the best audio and video.
(I am so sorry. I can't help it. Hence, the name, Smarty-pants )
