Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I wouldn't say The Fall is a must have title nor it's a must see. Oh boy, here comes the I Hate You Barney replies now . Don't get me wrong, it is a remarkable masterpiece in terms of a vibrant imagery and stunning video. Barney appreciate the claim on the backcover stating, "filmed over a period of 4 years in 18 different countries..." Adding the Director, Tarsem, artistic touch and the little girl is genuinely adorable (I know, how can you say you dislike a film like that), there were two main hiccups I just couldn't get past. 1) Barney hates to see a grown man cry. 2) Lost in all the remarkable imagery is the plot. It is complex and you have to be very vigilant to keep up with the story. Or it doesn't make much sense. Watched it 3x and still can't make head or tail of some of Tarsem's finer details fictional characters intent and representation as well as the real world characters background and relationship to the story. I guess as long as you get the main point of the story, which I got, it doesn't matter?
Bottom line, great disc, bad or so-so flick. Put it low in the queue bin or rental list, if it's a must-see !

I can say this for anyone who questions Barney's not liking movies with a little girl as the main character, now Little Miss Sunshine, that is the Must See movie. Barney luvs it! Kinda look like her a little bit?

Actually I just realized that I had a Frank Zappa DVD-Audio disc that is also 5.0. It has a DTS stream which I could try this on.

I am unable to get the sub 100hz signal from my "Small" front speaker setting redirected to the 1400 analog subwoofer output. Test it on a straight connection from the back of the 1400 to the Outlaw LFM-1 and Infinity Beta SW-12. Unable to get the green light indicating sub 100hz signal is outputted. Put in the Johnny Gill, "It's Your Body" CD , the bass should be plenty and bountiful below 100hz .

For clarification, FW 1.5 fixed the speaker configuration for analog audio GUI. But it did not actually redirected the sub 100hz signal to the subwoofer output jack. Taking one step back, I'm not sure it even filters out the sub 100hz signal for the fronts? Oh well, hope you have a highspeed receiver to do double bass and bass management for analog audio.

The wife and I watched both Kill Bill's on Sunday and it looked awesome. It's definitely my favorite Q film and it's a masterpiece. I had some issues getting movie 2 to load when I put it in the player and powered it off between movies. I had to actually remove it, power off the player, reboot the player, and then put the disc in to get it to load. My first real BR glitch (of many I am sure).

I just bought Top Gun and it doesn't want to play. It gets through the load screen, and when the counter pops up, it stays at 00:00 for a few seconds, then opens the cd tray, goes back to the samsung welcome screen, and gives me a disc not playable error.

Does anyone have Top Gun and had errors playing it?

Actually, we should line up everyone involved with Blu-ray spec, HDMI spec, and HDCP spec and beat them senseless with a "herring"

What an absolute joke of a standard(s)

Using the .iso file or the .ruf file did not work for me at all. The machine spit out the CD, or old me to take the CD out for the network (which was not plugged in).

I have 18 movies and they all play fine except for TRANSFORMERS. It will not load, or play at all.

The file must be unzipped after which the file name is:

ISO_BDP1400_XAA_080808_02_WEBSITE.ISO and that is the file to load in your burner. And this burner of yours must be capable to burn an image file such as an ISO type file. The selection is:

NOT:
- DATA
- Music
- Videos/Pictures
- Copy Entire Disc

It must be:
- Disc Image or Saved Project

If that last selection is not present, your burner is incomplete (could be a trial burner).

Ok. I have an Apple MacBook, and when I downloaded the zipped file, it unzipped automatically to the *.iso file. I burned the *.iso file directly to the CD (using the MacBook). When I open the CD, the *.iso file is on the CD. When I insert the DC in the BR player I do not see "Disc Image" or "Saved Project" as an option to pic.

I don't see those options when I burn. I just choose the file, and went to FILE/ BURN TO DISK.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help.

You can't burn in directly to the CD , you're just burning it as regular data and it will not work. You need some kind of burning software that will burn an .iso image file specifically. Or try and find the option to do on your mac. I use to have a mac, and i'm pretty certain that there was built-in software to burn image files, I don't remember 100% though. Just go in to the help on the mac and search for iso image burn and see what it tells you.

Why don't you just try and temporarily hook it up to your home network and just do the upgrade directly from the player?

I just picked up the 1400 about two weeks ago. Updated the Firmware, and I gotta tell ya, on Blu-ray movies I'm pretty darn happy. I paid $217 for this as a floor sample from Circuit City. I'ts my second player after my PS3. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but for Hi-Def movie playback it's a solid purchase.

DVD playback looks surprisingly bad though. I really wish it would detect DVD disks and default the output temporarily to 480i over HDMI and let my DVDO scaler handle the upconverting. I found the DVD upcomverting to be very fuzzy and dark. Blu-ray discs, rock-solid. Overall, I'm happy. I'll use my HTPC and TheaterTek for DVD playback.

If you can get past Nicolas Cage's fake southern accent in Con Air, then it is an entertaining movie. The classic one to two liners delivery by him are still hilarious. Great surrounds and pristine PQ, coupled with the incentive to upgrade your DVD version of Con Air (10 bux rebate), it's an easy boomoo collection recommend.

Thanks for the help.

Start from post #8762. I have the procedure written out for Nero Express, Sonic, IMGBurn, and Roxio. Tho not MacBook, it should give you an idea of how ISO image burning works.

FTR, Transformers plays fine with the 1400 on FW 1.9. It is one of those discs that stores load data into persistent memory. So if you are having problems loading it, just reset the 1400 persistent memory. Good luck buddy.

Thanks for the help.

Locate the iso file in your Finder (Desktop). Control click (or right click) on the file and you will get a drop down menu. Go to "Open with" and select "Disk Utility". In the Disk Utility window you will see your drives in the left side of the window with a separator under them. Under the separator you will see the iso file. Select the iso file and click the "Burn" icon in the tool bar (or select "Burn..." from the "Images" menu at the top of your screen). If you do not have a disk in it will ask you to insert one and then burn the iso image to disk and you should be good to go.

So, I just got done watching Alien vs Predator. I can see why it was not reated very good, but I did like it. I'll have to try and watch again soon when I can listen at reference level .
So anyway, I had absolutely no problems what-so-ever with the seamless branching that "some people" complain about .
Of course I am not watching my Blu-rays on the 1400 anymore since I sold mine. ...and no, it ain't on the 5000 either. It is on something WAYYYYYY BETTER!!!

I say forget the Herring, and just do an old fashioned stoning.
