Tommorow Pioneer will debut its new 95FD blu-ray player at Cedia. It will have similiar features to the 94hd except the biggest upgrade is the HDMI 1.3 output that reportedly will output Bitsream audio for DD, DTS-MA etc. There may be other improvements over the 94, not sure yet.

Price will be $999.

More info and pics hopefully tommorow.

PS they are also launching a new elite 58avi dvd player for around $500 that is claimed to have an amazing upconversion (couldn't get an answer as to who is responsible for the processing yet).

Just enjoy HD in whatever form you can (Sat, Cable, D-VHS, OTA, HD DVD, or BD).

Why is it so damned hard for ANYONE to come out with a Blu-Ray player that natively decodes ALL the lossless audio codecs???

The player includes HDMI v1.3 output, and support for 1080p high definition at a 24 frames per second (fps) rate

Very cool Jon, the magic question is BD 1.1? My 94HD had a rough time with BD-J interactivity(Pirates Discs). I do like the pricing though and it appears the 94HD will see a price drop as well. Glad I returned mine. It has been confirmed on the Japanese LX-80(same thing) they do now have DTS-HD MA bitstreaming which initially it did not. Internal decoder does DTS-HD HRA or externally if you like.

I love Pioneer Elite stuff, but that seems very high for a dvd player. It's best advantage will be HDMI 1.2a so it will do dsd for sacd over hdmi. Their new 48av has 1.2a as well for $300.

I've always been a fan of the 94HD despite some of the features it lacked. I could just never pull the trigger on one because they were never in stock locally. I guess that is a good thing now. It looks like the 95FD is going to be right up my alley and should go great with my Pio 6010FD display.

Joe,

I immediately wondered what your take on this would be. I've followed the 94HD thread and the love you've shown for that player. Will the 95 move ahead of the Sammy 1400, 2400 or the Denon for you now?

Jon ask the 1.1 question if you could to the Pioneer reps and if not this model when it seems likely?

Seriously this is getting beyond a joke now.

The ps3 has no games so as soon as anyone releases a BD player that beats the ps3 and is 1.1 compliant I'm selling my ps3 and getting that.

Can we at least expect to see 1.1 players some time in the next 6 months?

I will ask if its 1.1 or upgradeable to 1.1 later. The rep did not know what 1.1 is

Just enjoy HD in whatever form you can (Sat, Cable, D-VHS, OTA, HD DVD, or BD).

Hi Jon,

Thanks for doing all the leg work for us. If you could find out it would be nice to know if they mean it's shipping the first part of October or at the end.

Thanks!

Seems kind of weird and silly that Pioneer keeps releasing basically the same player with just minor tweaks to it...I for one am glad I kept my HD1 and will be waiting for CES in January to see what Pioneer has up their sleeve for their 3rd gen players, hopefully profile 2.0 and DTS-HD MA internal decoding!

Go Celtics!

Hear, hear! I absolutely refuse to buy another Blu-ray Disc player until there's a Profile 2.0 version available at a similar price-point (i.e. < $1K).

I like my 94 especially the network feature. If this is faster and the networking is more refined I might get it.

No offense here guys but bluray seems to be milking these players for all they are worth and Pioneer Elite is my favorite brand.

Gen 1 BD player, 1.0 spec, no advanced audio decoding, enhanced interactivity or internal audio or video mixers for PIP

Gen 1.5 BD player, 1.0 spec, tad faster load times, DD+ and TRUE HD internal decoding, no DTS decoding, still no enhanced interactivity or internal video or audio mixing for PIP.

Gen 1.8 BD player, 1.0 spec, DD+, True HD, DTS-HD internal decoding, all prior plus DTS-HD MA external decoding, still no enhanced interactivity or internal video or audio mixing for PIP.

Gen 2.0 player, 1.1 spec, DD+, True HD, DTS-HD HRA internal decoding, all prior plus DTS-HD MA external decoding, enhanced interactivity or internal video or audio mixing for PIP.

I am not buying the fact that the player decodes DTS-HD MA internally, I just read a press article on the LX-80 (Japanese Version) and DTS-HD MA bitstreaming was very recently added. Since one of the Pioneer reps didn't even know what 1.1 was I am not buying this as the gospel.

I am glad I bought my XA2 which this month firmware upgrades will do all of the above and I have had the player since January. Firmware upgrades have made this the future proof player. So as it stands I am awaiting the next gen 1.1 spec Elite player.

Is there any chance we will get DTS-HD decoding in the 94HD via firmware upgrade ?

Thanks:

I will easily buy this player and sell my first gen HD1. I have a new Pioneer receiver to decode the HD-MA. I am one of those that just doesn't care about PIP and online content, I have an A2 and have yet to use those features and really don't plan on it. I want the best picture and sound, the 95HD will do that perfectly.

89+ Blu-ray Disc ;)

Photo shows that this player will NOT do internal DTS HD MA decoding. Thanks for nothing Pioneer. Seems like no manufacturer has the interest in or capability of providing internal MA decoding. They must think that everyone will upgrade their receivers. NOT.

You want me to be positive about player after player being introduced with no internal MA decoding. Sorry, but my name isn't Polyanna. What is wrong with those of us that have good receivers (Denon 4806ci) wanting and expecting a BD player with internal MA decoding?

For some reason, Fox seems to want us to hear the MA track since they are providing it on their movies. And for some reason BD player manufacturers don't want us to hear it without going out and buying a new AV processor with MA decoding capability. That does not make me happy. I assume you have a receiver with 1.3 MA decoding capability, so this isn't an issue for you.

I have a Elite 92 receiver on the way. If this is HDMI 1.3 I probably will get this player. If it is 1.1 without any question I will. Hell, if they announce it is 1.1, I'll go and put money down on it ASAP. I currently do not have a Blu-ray player; however, I did buy The Untouchables the other day and plan to buy whatever Paramount has out there before they are gone (but there aren't many I am interested in).
