If that's the case, 5000 pts plus 2000 for a PS3 (5 pts for every dollar on sonystyle) should be redeemable for a couple of free blu-ray movies.

The fine print says the offer expired in June. Kind of odd that its still up on the site though. Fingers crossed I guess.

That was in my card docs. as well. I haven't order the PS3 yet. Since the announcement of the new Panasonic DMPBD30K BD Player, now I have a decision to make. PS3 or DMPBD30K. Since I'm going to get the Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver, it will be a perfect time to get DTS HD MA (Master Audio). Do I wait for Sony to possibly offer a firmware update for DTS HD MA for the PS3, or go with the new Panny? It also worth noting I get the EPP price through Panasonic, so the DMPBD30K I can get for around 375.00.

I saw that, but the $100 off / 12-mo financing thing says it expired 9/30, and that's definitely still active.

BTW- 40GB PS3 now on sonystyle.com for preorder.

I was going to go ahead and just buy off of sonystore but after I called to register my card i asked the guy and he verified that it is for any store as long as the product is made by sony. I asked him to notate on my account that I asked about it to verify that I could buy it at any store.

Just pulled the plug and went "format neutral". BTW, the sonystyle site has free shipping also (they say it ends today). Total out the door to me was 399.00 for the 40GB and a 100 credit back. 299 was my price point to go blu and they met it. Can't hold out forever with kids who want Disney! There was also a box you check on your order checkout that said you want points awarded.

I think that box meant that if you have accumulated points, they will use it towards this order... I checked all the boxes to be sure.

Pulled the trigger as well. I am getting into blu at a $50 premium to the HD DVD, so essentially I am paying $50 bucks extra for mediocre game library... I guess it is worth it. Even though I am format neutral, I will continue buying the HD DVD when presented the choice between the 2 and rent Blu...

Many people may disagree with me, but I still think HD DVD is more consumer friendly.

I know of at least 2 titles that are on my Buy list for blu:

The Company
The Rock

Best regards,

Blu-Ray: ~22

That's correct. I called Sonystyle to make sure I was using the correct cc procedure. If using a Sony card, you just "add a new credit card" and enter the info. That check box is if you're redeeming accrued points towards a purchase. The rewards points on new purchases will be added to your account automatically with the next statement cycle.

call and ask. some of us have it documented on our accounts that we are able to buy the ps3 elsewhere and still get the rebate.

This is a little OT, but I'm now a blu-ray noob...

Can I use a standard HDMI cable to connect between the PS3 and my Onkyo 705 or do I need the Sony one? Thanks.

Just buy one from monoprice or another vendor for $5 and be happy. Save your money for movies... Those sony cables do not add any value over the $5 cable.

Signed up for the card a few weeks ago, and have been waiting for the 40gb to appear at Sonystyle. Pulled the trigger as well this morning. Hopefully it will start shipping tomorrow or Monday as the site implies. Was kind of suprised to see the 80gb on back order though, so who knows. Also got it for the blu-ray and it's ability to play AVCHD.

Probably the first game system I've bought and don't see myself picking up any games for in the foreseeable future (I have a 360 and most of the titles that I would get for the PS3 like COD 4, I could and will get on the 360 anyways).

Hey folks, don't make dishonest posts such as this. The deal for the $100 rebate is if for purchases at Sonystyle on-line or at a Sonystyle store ONLY. Don't be misled.

I take offense to you calling me a liar. I called twice and verified this, and had them document it on my account both times, like I recommended everyone else to do. I have no reason to mislead anyone, and others on this thread have done the same thing.. so I think you owe me an apology.

Jason, no -- you can only get the rebate by using the card for a "qualifying" purchase at Sonystyle on-line or a local Sonystyle store. Of course, the credit card, once you have it, can be used anywhere for other things.

Just curious, your kids are so discerning as to prefer BR over upconverted SD discs? And, they prefer BR for a few hi-def Disney titles versus waaaaaaaaaaaay more Disney titles on SD DVD. Me thinks you purchased your BR player for you primarily.

I bought a PS3 through Sony Style two months ago when the 60 gigs were $499. I got a $150 off by opening a Sony credit card. It takes about 6 weeks for them to credit your account but it is legit. I got the PS3 for $350 and 5 free movies.

diat, I went to your link and you're quite right -- if you apply at that site you can make the Sony purchase at any Sony approved site -- and still get the rebate. So I definitely owe you a public apology. However, when applying through the Sonystyle site it says you must make the "qualifying purchase" at Sonystyle. So again, my apologies to you.

its the same bank, same card. thats why I recommend calling and checking, and if they say yes have them notate that on your account. I dont want to wait for the ps3 so I will take the chance, but if it is notated on your account I dont see the issue. Im about to call again and check just to see.

I just called and the csr transferred me to a sony rep and they said that it is only for sonystyle.... so I would proceed with caution if you are going to buy it anywhere else.

I don't believe they have two offers running. True, I can't prove it. You'll note that the other site says you must purchase a Sony product, but they don't have any way to check that you actually purchased a Sony product. When you look at the fine print it says "any" purchase of $299 or more on a single receipt. They can't check what you bought without having you send in a receipt. So, they aren't telling the truth about it having to be a Sony product. Logically, the same is true for the Sonystyle offer. I believe it's automated as long as you hit $299. You could probably buy $299 in groceries at Kroger and get the $100.

I just did the same this AM. I was debating weather to get the PS3 or the new Panny DMP-BD30K. I decided to order the PS3 and will most likely get the panny as well.
