Its not a bad deal at all. I may go neutral to enjoy the full world of HD...

Too bad we have to pay tax on th full amount, but that is ok, I guess... Would be approximately 335 after the gift card and with tax for me, here in NYC...

Don't care for PS2 compatibility and don't really care for any of the games. Suits me quite well.

Exactly what I was waiting for. I wonder if you should apply for the card now, and save your $100 credit (not buy anything right away). I suspect Sony might withdraw the promotion after the 40gig PS3 comes out in November.

I took advantage of the $150 Sony Card credit deal a while back, and it was extremely painless, if anyone's curious. I signed up for the card, bought the ps3 from sonystyle.com, and a couple of weeks later there was a -$150 credit on my sony statement online.

Not sure how it all works out but I paid 600.00 for my PS3 and consider it a bargain without being a gamer.

Yesterday I purchased the 80GB PS3 w/MotorStorm game for $499 with free shipping and with $100 credit coming and 5 free blu-ray HD DVD's with the mail in rebate it's a great deal. BTW my Fedex tracking number shows it shipped today from Carson, CA with a delivery date of Oct 25 here in NJ.

I'm half tempted to buy a 40gb for BD in the theater, and give my son my 60gb so he is not having so many game playing marathons using my projetor, and burning up the lamp hours in the process.

Same here, I use it mostly for movies and Media streaming. Its worth $600 as a BR player alone. I just bought a toshiba A30 HD-DVD player. That frggen thing is so damn cheap. You would have to seriously be on crack to pick the $400 A30 over a $400 PS3 for nothing more then HD video...

The best Folding At Home device on the market - as well as a pretty good BRay player. As an aside, the multiplayer games are unplayable on their network/platform. The game selections are tedious and uninspiring. 299.00 to 350.00 is a fair price. PS - the media sharing is terrible with larger archives.
cheers!

SonyStyle doesn't have the 40GB PS3 Spider-man package "up" yet, and might not until the November 2nd release date. Of course that doesn't stop anyone from applying for the credit card in advance to be prepared.

I spoke with a rep at Sony Card and she said that the $100 off is valid no matter where you use the card for your first purchase, and there's also no minimum. So you can buy locally and take advantage of the credit. The 12 months no interest is also universal, though it depends on credit worthiness.

Do you have a phone number where I can call and confirm? Not that I dont trust what you are saying, just wanna get it from the horse's mouth.

Thanks... It looks like I will go neutral after all if the "use anywhere for 100 credit is confirmed"

I am reading the fine print on the web and it says:

1. Sony Card is issued by Chase Bank USA, NA, and is subject to credit approval. Your first single sales receipt purchase made at a SonyStyle store, including SonyStyle.com equal or greater than $299 ("Qualifying Purchase") will automatically qualify you for a $100 Statement Credit. Statement Credit will be posted to your Sony Card Statement within 8-12 weeks from Qualifying Purchase. Offer available to new Sony Card accounts only and only one $100 Statement Credit may be earned per Sony Card account.

So I dont really think you can use it anywhere other than sonystyle store or sonystyle.com

I too went over the fine print and was surprised by what I was told. I called sonystyle at 1-877-865-7669 and they transfered me to Sony card, so I don't have a direct number. They are totally independent of each other though. I asked the girl at sonystyle if the $100 credit could be 'saved' after opening the card and she had no idea. Conversely, I asked the girl at Sony card if the 40gb PS3 would go live on the site on 11/2 and she also had no idea.

The 100 does not have to be spent right away. So, you can open the card today, make the purchase in about a month and still get the 100 credit.

By their language of first qualifying purchase, they imply that you dont have to do it right away. If they wanted to force you to purchase something right away, the language would be "purchase made at the time of opening the card of 299 or more"

What also bother's me is that it is less than 2 weeks before the release date and they do not have a preorder on sonystyle.com... That sucks.

Probably due to the low numbers of this model being produced.

If they can't insure that they will have sufficient stock then they won't want to put it up for pre-order.

Sony has already said that only a small quantity of the $399 model will be produced by the end of this year as they are still focusing the bulk of their resources into making the more expensive models.

That really sucks, because they could put the pre-order up and see the real interest in the new-priced console. Yet they continue to shortchange the people that actually want it and later on they will claim that there is no demand for it... Of course you are going to sell only 100k units if you only make that much...

Seems kind of ridiculous to me. If you plan to roll it out, then support it, in terms of enough supply.

After sales tax you are looking at $323, I think I would pay the extra $76 on amazon not to sign up for ANOTHER credit card.
