a) My 2600 has HDMI, it just doesn't support 3D (v1.4) so I didn't come for advice on HDMI spec, I am well aware of the limitation of my AVR's ability - hence the workaround I have accommodated.
*For the record, the TV DOES pass-thru 5.1 audio, its not a 'dumb' 2 channel downsampler, and I realize I didn't mention that, nor did I account for people on this thread not knowing that.
b) The PS3 WILL decode and pass all of these codecs (decoded) nearly Identically to what newer avrs do with the native stream, so its not 100% required to buy a new avr every time a new codec appears.
c) I have been subbed to this thread since the beginning, so thanks for pointing me to info I already read. This is a community for helping each other, is it not? RTFM is slightly less helpful than I believe you think it is.
d) I agree with you - I want a new AVR, and have sought advice elsewhere on the site for that purpose, unless you'd like to link me to google.com so I could sort it out myself... But in the MEAN TIME while I weigh my next $1000+ purchase of a new AVR, I'd like some help making the current configuration work, "throw money at it" is not the best advice I've had all day.
**The TV DOES pass 5.1 Audio, it does NOT downsample to 2channel like most TVs**
