Yes, it is a Black HR20-100. I believe they are releasing their newer HD DVRs in Black next year. They will be much easier to get...

Auuugh! the "black lines" are supposed to be there!
no "zooming" watch the film as the director intended!
don't "monkey" with the movie you are not a film director!

Just got my first Blu-Ray player today and it is the Pany 30. I am offcially Purple now.

Now just need to head home and hook it up.

I have a similar setup to Robert's except I have the Black Pearl instead of a Pearl with a 106" screen and a 4308 doing 7.1 with with Rocket 850s for mains their center and four Rocket 250s mounted as surrounds and twin SVS Ultra 13s anchoring the low end and providing ass kicking 15hz LFE.

This was the last piece of the Puzzle electronics wise. Now I need to clean up my room a bit and build a riser and order four more electric recline Berkliner theater chairs and I will beable to say I am done on the hardware and relegate myself to buying software.

If they are using it with a Ruby then my guess would be 1080p/60 which is what I did the panny 10A at when I had it in my set up...

HR20's are SILVER, the only BLACK units being seen are the HR21's = NO OTA!

I can get the Panny 30K for $63 less than I paid for the Sony S301 unit (through my EPP website). I'm hearing the Panny has a "sharper" picture and load times are faster. Sounds like I should take back the Sony and opt for the Panny 30K, as the claims I'm hearing here of a sharper picture alone would be the most critical thing here.

I am. The Sony goes back. It's so slow and slugish. The panny smokes it.

Off topic, but the first HR20-100s produced were black.

I hooked up the new panny last night. This is by far the fastest of the blurays, and I've owned the earlier panny, samsung 1400 and pioneer 95. I like the build quality of the Pioneer but the slow load time made me want to stick hot needles in my eye. The disks I tried were Surf's up (wow...less than 60 seconds) and Bewulf and Grendal (I lost 2hrs of my life...how do i get it back) with no issues.

Thanks,
Equipment:
Samsung 61" 1080P
Integra 9.8
Emotiva MPS-1
Panasonic DMP 30
Toshiba A35
Xbox 360 Elite

If you have another BD disc with DTS-HDMA, try it and see if it comes up with that one too. Unfortunately, I do not have another DTS disc.

Neither do I. I'll see if there's something I can rent.

For help in choosing titles with Dolby® TrueHD and/or DTS HD Master Audio, click Blu-ray Disc Statistics. Then click Audio in the header section to sort by type of audio.

Has anyone found the manual for the Panasonic DMP-BD30K online in a .pdf format? I looked on Panasonic's website but couldn't find it.

joerod, as a previous ruby owner (i think?), i am curious to hear your opinion on what i will miss by lack of 1080P/24. have asked on the ruby forum but didn't get a great answer. in other words, the real difference there is between the ruby and black pearl due just to the lack to 1080P/24, nothing else (or everything else being equal). does that make sense? Thanks.

A couple of other things to add about the BD30 after working with it for a couple of days:
  • It's made in Japan - not a big deal for some, but I've generally had better luck with items from Japan (such as my Denon components) than some other places.
  • Both parts and labor are warrantied for one year - many players only warranty labor for 90 days.
  • The audio quality from the 5.1 outputs is surprisingly good. I'm using the analog outputs until I get my Denon 3808 and was quite happy with the output. If only it decoded DTS-MA/TrueHD and also SACD I might have been able to skip my 3805 --> 3808 upgrade altogether.

I'm serious...Apparantly the newer models coming out are black. I have been a perfect customer for 14 years with no late payments...so this probably helped. I had to go through customer resolutions to get it done.
