Point a digital camera at the front end of the remote and try pressing buttons. It should be possible to see the infra red light from the button presses in the camera's LCD.

Buying a replacement remote is inexpensive.

Just a quick post for fellow Panasonic users. It took me 7 cd-r's to do the v3.1 update on our two BD-30's. Windows 7 and XP didn't burn it right, ImgBurn in 9660, 9660+Juliet, finalized or not, nothing worked, all gave the "e disk" message. All burns were at 4X as recommended by forum members. I downloaded the bloatware NERO and it worked the very first time... One of our remotes was also MIA, and we found it is still available from Panasonic for $11.57 with free shipping. http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/N2QAYB000574 Hope this helps someone.

Will the firmware update allow this player to read AVIs or MP4s or will this player only read Blu RAys and DVDs?

Panasonic would have sent you the SW update if you had asked them. They sent me the SW CD.

Well, I just had my first hiccup today since I installed FW 3.1 when it was first released. Played the double feature Terror Vision/The Video Dead from Scream Factory and it wouldn't let me into the menu for either movie. The DVD that came with it would and it played fine.

Tried it on my BD-210 and it worked fine. I hope this is just an anomaly and not the harbinger of things to come. All the newest sci-fis (Edge of Tomorrow, X-Men, etc.) work great.

...finally retired and spending time in my HT!!!

My equipment consists of: Epson 9500 UB Projector(Avical ISFd); 110" 16x9 JKP Affinity Screen; Panny BD30 Player, Tosh HDA1 Player; Definitive Speakers (Center, Towers, Rear); Onkyo 608 A/V Receiver; Nevo Q50 Remote; TWC DVR-HD Cable Box; 5 Bello chairs.

Just had an audio hiccup on Dead Snow, but rewound and it played fine. I think our players are getting long in the tooth, especially since they were one of the first BD players to come out...but I'm still keeping it!

Hello there BD30 faithful:
Last evening I found out that the BD30 can play the DVD-Audio format. I have another Panasonic player the DVD-S52 that also plays the DVD-Audio format.

Howdy Zenyatto,

good to hear that, so this evening I'll try out some DVD-A on mine though. Once again, thanks for sharing

Last but not least, mine is still up & running pretty fine

Regards, Chuck

Hey Zenyatto,

I finally got time for testing some DVD-A's on my BD-30 and only one played fine (Beach Boys - Pet Sounds). Mind you, this one disc has 3 different tracks though (mono, stereo and DVD-A) and maybe that's the reason why it does play fine, something like the hybrid SACD's though.

Sheryl Crow and Beatles Love did not play at all, which leads me to believe that our beloved one doesn't play the real-deal DVD-A tracks, unfortunately

Regards, Chuck

Nope, Only the BD10 supported DVD-A. Any player afterwards only plays the legacy level.

Hi Avliner:
I sincerely apologize for the naive false alarm. I played the only two DVD-As I have on my 5.1 Home Theater set-up:
1. Aaron Neville Nature Boy The Standards Album
2. Diana Krall The Look Of Love
Both have the Verve label.
I played both on the BD30. I was only able to access the entire menu of the Aaron Neville DVD-A. Both DVD-As played with their "optional" DD 5.1 sound which leads me to conclude it was their SD DVD video sound. Then I played them first on my Oppo DV-983H and finally on my Oppo BDP-83. I got the multichannel surround sound from both Oppo's.
Again I apologize for the "false" hope alarm, thanks.

This goes way back to a post last year but it was a big help to me. Like Ultanium, I was experiencing failures trying to burn FW update disks for Ver 3.1. I still cannot explain why Nero worked but now that I finally got my unit updated I'm not going to question it. I must has going through 6-7 CD-Rs with multiple burning utilities before finding the old post about Nero. The Nero burned disk worked 1st time.

As pointed out earlier, Panasonic would have sent me the disk but I am preparing the unit for resale and did not have time to wait for their processing.

Thanks for a very helpful Forum.
