That's the best deal I've seen recently.

And Target also has the 10% off (entire day) if you apply for their Visa card. That is when I bought my PS3 $399 - %10 off - $40 gift card (I used the gift card the same day on another purchase.) They also let me use my personal credit card with the 10% off coupon which gave me another 1% off (I was surprised their system allowed that).

Which player is better, this Sony or the Samsung BDP-1400. I have a friend that wants to buy her husband a Blu-ray player (she will balk at anything over $300). Just want to advise her on the better player. Thanks.

dumb question, does the 2nd act 1400 refurbs come with the remote ??, I figured the manual wouldn't since there is a link to downloaded it on the site. Some refurbs I have seen are just for the player, some have the remote, manual, etc.

I was going to hold out for the BD50 since it decodes DTS-MA but I have an older receiver and will be using analog only and not sure if it's worth $400 bucks more to have BD live ??

I assume so. Nowhere did it state otherwise. If I don't get one it's going back!

I might have to jump on this before they are out of stock again.

I also found a coupon code for $10 off any purchase at Second act the code is: C2249

that will almost cover ground shipping, total comes to $232.98 for a 1400 refurb shipped

I believe the Sammy 1400 is stable now with the latest firmware but I would go with the BD30.

I've gotten 2 1400s from SA.com and they both came with remotes. One had the original manual, and the other one had a prited out manual stapled together in book-like form.

WARNING: I just received the second 1400 yesterday from SA.com. The serial number on the box did NOT match the SN on the back of the player. The box also loked tampered with. That one will be going back.

Don;t forget to use coupon code FACEBOOKMM at secondact.com for $25 off.

I am getting one from them and taking my Sony 300 player back to BB and saving $170 including taxes.

Love it.

Yeah, that was my thought as well. I suspect that BD-Live will end up a marketing tool. You know, try to sell movie merchandize, show latest trailers, etc.

As long as it plays Blu-ray movies, I'm fine.

Don't do it. It's worth the extra money for something that works. The 1400 is a crap shoot. I know many on here will disagree, those that have a working 1400, but there are a lot of us that got burned by a used 1400. Isn't reliability worth $100? That's only the cost of 4 or so movies difference.

WLA BB #109 just stocked up on some more UP5k's, I'm thinking about getting another one for 449.00. If the fw for this unit gets released and works as advertised I may just sell my XA2. Hard to let go True HD though the XA2 blows away the 5k in the sound dept no doubt about that atm.

Lately I've been browsing NewEgg and seeing that BD burners sell for about the same price as standalone players. Seeing as how I've got a computer already connected to my TV, I've thought about replacing the DVD burner in that machine with a BD burner.

Now I realize that there's the HDCP crap to deal with, but has anyone here any experience with playing BD movies on a drive built for a computer? Must I be using Vista with its DRM support to play commercial movies on these devices? Is the quality comparable to a standalone player?

I use Linux about 99+% of the time, but I don't think it's yet possible to play AACS encrypted movies on an open platform even though the encryption scheme has already been broken. I'd be willing to boot Vista for those times I want to watch a BD movie if that would make everything work and work well.

There's pretty extensive info out there about BD setups for home theater PCs. You will have to deal with HDCP issues for digital connections out of a PC. I believe the video card, and possibly the motherboard have to be HDCP compliant. You might not deal with these issues if you output the video over a component video connection.

after all my championing waiting for BD-Live and the 50, i just couldn't pass up paying 50% less than any BD player out now, plus 1/3 of the price of what the 50 will be.

purchased, and shipping soon.

Thanks! I realized just after posting that this might not be the right thread for this question.

That said, a review of the appropriate thread shows what an incredible array of hurdles the studios have put in our path.

[rant]Making it so hard for people to play legitimately purchased content just encourages more piracy in my mind. It's not like professional bootleggers can't figure out how to end-run all the DRM and HDCP junk. Not to mention that it took me all of five seconds to find torrents for a wide array of Bluray films at a well-known Swedish tracker.[/rant]
