I returned my Panny 30K last night to BB where I had paid $449. I figured for the $157.50 difference (which includes tax), I would give the Samsung a try, as that's a lot of $$. Also, since I have a lower end AVR, the Samsung intrigued me as it has some decoders built in, where the Panny had zippy decoders (e.g. TrueHD). I've already burned an .iso file to a disc for the firmware update on the Sammy. I'll load it tonight when I get home.

By the way, I went to my local Costco last night in Gaithersburg, MD and there were no Samsungs to be found. They never stocked this unit at this warehouse, only the Sony 301 model ... rats!

Yeah, my local didn't have it either, so I asked the front-folks to track it down on the computer... it's stacked in the Foster City Costco which is only about another 7-miles from my house... that's where I got mine, and my price match!

If more of us valued food and cheer above hoarded gold, it would be a much merrier world.

They generally avoid PM by having their suppliers give them different part numbers/models so they can avoid this. Their TV's usually have a few examples of "costco-only" models.

Every so often though you can find one that is the original retail version and those they will PM.

Um, anyone know of any PS3 deals this week or weekend? Something like what Wal-Mart ran for last Friday? I would really like to go dual formats.

I was looking in my Base Exchange weekly flyer today and they had the Sony-BDP-S300 marked down from $499 to $449, 50 bux off. I thought to myself, man that sucks, and so does AAFES.

Walmart.com had this exact same player for super cheap (less than 299) and they were throwing in either 3 or 5 free BD disks with purchase. Im almost positive it was 5. I tried to find the link for you but they have ended the promo.

Hello, I am looking for a deal on the PS3 and my local Fry's is offering the 40gig PS3 with Spiderman 3, Transporter 2 Blu-ray, Blu Ray remote and an extra Sixaxis controller for $474.97. Is this a good deal? I am thinking of waiting in hopes of something better soon.

meh.

Not really.. The extra controller, the extra bluray disc, and the bluray remote can be found for about $74.97 anyway... so you are just basically paying for all that stuff anyway. Would be a deal if it was all to be had for the $399 cost of a 40gb PS3...

My Frys has a bundle - 40 gig PS3 with Pirates ATW and SM3 - all for $350. I already have PS3, but with prices like that - I wish I needed another one

Ok, if price is the same, which is the better choice, Sony S300 or Sammy 1400 ?
I was playing with them both at BB today and the Sammy drawer mech seemed a little clunky/noisy by comparison.
How abot features, PQ , bugs, quirks, etc ? I know the 1400 doesn't come w/a HDMI cable, how about the Sony ?
Also, my local BB won't honor the 10% coupon, sticking to the "it's a sale price" story. (they were out of stock anyway)

anyone have an idea when they might see the first Samsung BD-UP5000 players on shelves? CC indicates late December, Amazon indicates not until mid-January of '08 and Crutchfield hasn't given me any indication (i have pre-orders at all three...i pray that they don't all ship the same day )

Is this online or in print? Will other Fry's or BestBuy match it? If not, maybe I will just order off of Amazon. I have a $50 off certificate that I earned. I hope Amazon has another deal soon on the PS3.

What version of HDMI does the BDP9000 have? This sounds like a good deal however I have yet to read the overall specifications on it and have not read any 1st hand user reviews yet either.

Papa, bottom right of pg 9 of the weekly ad "Get 7 free Blu-Ray disc movies, 5 by mail plus, get 2 more free instantly, when you buy this Samsung player"

Ironically it shows the 1400 price@399. The small print below the above states "choose 2 of 10 preselected titles". Apparently there is no such list, so they let you choose any 2 , 29.95 titles.

The "2 of 10" list is in the stores. From memory:
300
Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
Ful Metal Jacket (orig version; gotta plead for the remastered one)
TMNT
Phantom of the Opera
Training Day
Superman Returns
Blazing Saddles
Beerfest
Troy
