Seems the update tomorrow will add it, along with Divx playback and VC1 Very nice! Wouldn't the PS3 be 2.0 compatible then, since it has ethernet support?

Woah, Link killed by Sony haha. Lemme try to find another source, sorry guys. Link to a screenshot before it was taken down:

Here is some more info. Or really the same info translated.

Details:
- Voice changer. whatever that is

- Music settings. Bitmapping.
- Video:
DivX (not in divx3.11 though), VC-1(wmv) (you have to enable wma playback in the system settings in order to be able to play wmvs)
BluRay 1.1
BluRay Disc Settings Tool added. I guess it's related to the new options 1.1 allows.

This feature allows you to change the tone of the sound originated by audio devices, like microphones. It has 5 preset levels and a bass and (what's the opposite of bass? ) scale.

You can alter the tone while using the Voice and Video chat options available in "Friends"

Other 2.10 stuff

Music

- Now you can select the options [Type 3] in Settings > Music Settings > Bitmapping. This bitmapping process has been designed exclusively for the PS3 with the goal of improving the audio reproduction.

Video

- DivX y VC-1 WMV (WOOOOOT) are now compatible. *
- The system is now compatible with the Profile 1.1 Blu-ray Disc. **
- A [BD data tool] option has been added ***

*
- To play VC-1 (WMV) files you will need to select the option [Activate WMA reproduction], available in the Settings > System Settings
- It's not possible to play copyrighted files or files compressed with DivX 3.11
- It's not possible to play files bigger then 2GB
**
- Now you have several additional features, like the simultaneous reproduction of the videos in the Blu-ray Disc compatible with the 1.1 Profile. The available features vary depending on the disc.
***
Stores the management data used by the Blu-ray Disc.

If you dont need HBR support, the PS3 is a no brainer at this point. I love mine, and it keeps getting better.

Wouldn't the PS3 be profile 2.0 as it has internet connectivity and 1GB onboard storage? When the 2.0 "update" rolls out I don't see what would be different.

Profile 1.1 (also called the Final Standard Profile or "Bonus View") adds decoders for secondary PiP video and audio, plus 256 MB of local storage capability.

Profile 2.0 (or "BD-Live") includes those secondary video and audio decoders, a larger 1 GB of local storage capability, and an internet connection.

PS3 may be the greatest piece of home theater electronic ever released. It's the only thing I've seen that was great at what it does but just gets better every month for absolutely free.

I agree, forget the gaming. Is there anything on the market that can compare? What product that is available can store/stream pictures, HD videos (almost all formats now), music and upscale CD/DVDs? for $499? The XBox comes close but falls short by not supporting lossless audio. I can't think of anything with this level of quality.

Oh and it plays Blu-Ray and Hi-Def games if that is your thing...

I've been dreaming for a device like this for years. Anyone remember Qcast for the PS2... What a disaster that was.

I remember when everyone thought the ps3 could not upscale DVD's and ps2 games. Sony covered that. Then everyone thought the ps3 could not be upgraded to BD profile 1.1. That is covered. Then they give us DivX, WMV, and VC-1. Nice little Christmas gift from Sony.

Happy about the Divx, don't care about the 1.1 but its nice to be able to have only the 2nd 1.1 player available. Pissed there is still not DTSHDMA.

Blue Discs: 28....Next purchase...The Rock
Red Discs: 7....Next purchase...Is there a need to?
PS3 Games: 4....Next purchase...GT5

I hate to add to the chorus, but the thing I most want from the PS3 at this point is the ability to decode DTS-MA, its the only soundtrack on many BD discs and just getting the core is getting real old, real fast.

I understand the want for HD MA but doesn't this show that they care about its features
as a blu-ray player. There has been reports of Sony working with DTS so I'm sure if it's possible for it to at least decode HD MA they will do it asap. They are trying to swim in two pools at the same time in respect to gaming and HD.

I hear ya!!

I would just like them to at least come out & say that "yes its possible & we're working on it" or "No, it's not possible".
All the rumors surrounding this possible feature are never ending. Maybe now since 1.1 is done they can work on DTS-MA support.

I will say it again.

DTS MA will not be coming until there is a SAL on the street that decodes internal DTS MA.

Until then, its a pipe dream.

Is it possible the lack of DTS-MA is not a technical issue nor a marketing one, but rather a matter of working out codec licensing costs ex post facto for all the PS3 out in the wild? A SAL with this feature out-of-the-box likely has these fees rolled into the cost and Sony could starting paying a fee for new PS3 sold, but I would assume DTS wants some cash for all the millions of PS3 out there already that would suddenly have this feature.

Anyway, the new firmware looks pretty sweet and it's good to see Sony continuing to improve its media capabilities.

I am pretty sure the licenses for DTS include all derivatives of DTS. DTS , DTS HD HR, DTS HD MA.

Although I suppose it has plenty of legitimate fair use applications, it's notable for being the most popular format for pirated content available on the internet. I'm actually a little surprised that Microsoft and Sony are adding support for this, but I guess the customer is always right!

What res divx is supported?

It isn't the size of the disk that counts, but how you use it.

Panasonic 46pz85u

4K cinema at 60mbps, coming soon to a kiosk near you.

Great news on the update! I'm assuming it won't be available for download in the US until tomorrow? Also, as per the DTS licensing questions - if that were the issue, you'd think they would just offer it as a $2-5 download on the PSN Store?
