This thing is freaking huge! The Features obviously rock, but the size alone makes me want to consider other options.

Once you use an ELITE product and learn there factory support you wont even look at the size any more.

Exactly! The 05FD is really not that big, looks very similiar to the HD1.

hmmm, I think I can make room on my shelf in my main audio/video system for this... How about up-scaling DVDs? I would hope this would be at the top of the heap! Plus this will match up very nicely with my 94 receiver....

Very exciting and also disappointing. No SACD and DVD-A?

How long do we have to wait? Seriously, what is the big problem with including these audio formats, especially in a new high end player?

If they are indeed there, I so sold on this thing!

Anyone? The only other Elite product I have ever used is my LD player, with which I am very impressed. It will be between this and the new Panny (assuming that the 100Hz fixed crossover will work in my setup), but given the choice it would be the Pioneer (I find it hard to believe that the analog section in a Pioneer Elite would be even more crippled than a Samsung...?!?)

If it has SACD/DVD-A support over HDMI, that would be a great feature!

Will there be any venues/events coming up before may (NY Metro) when we can see this baby in action. I am already sold and dying to see it.

If Pioneer Elite can bring a BD player with all audio formats decoded(SACD, DVD-A, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA) & passed over i-Link, that would be awesome. That way I can still keep my venerable 59TXi.

Just adding my $0.02:

Looks like a great player. I may wait until the Elite 2.0 player specs, prices and release dates are available before upgrading. My BPD-95FD will be fine until then.

Count me as one person that is THRILLED to see the center load disc drawer! I never cared for the offset drawers in the previous Pio Elite BD player and hope that Pioneer continues to build units with a center load drawer!

I forgot about i-Link, I wonder if it will be supported? I know my 95 and VSX94 recever don't feature it anymore. Maybe Chris will enlighten us?

I would be interested in seeing this new player if it could be seen somewhere in the area around Washington, D.C. or Baltimore (i.e., in Maryland).

I don't know about the 94 or 95, but the HD1 only allows you to select if you have a center and surrounds, and if your mains are small or large. I would assume the crossover would be set at 80Hz.

I agree the audio section should allow greater control. I would like to see the ability to set crossover settings (in 10 Hz increments) for all speakers, and also identify if one has a sub or not.

I realize that most who spend the money on this kind of product will have an HDMI receiver or pre/pro to connect to it. I also have a projector with a DVI input, and it is tough to find source devices that will work correctly with it.

In this era of diminishing profit margins, I think it is too much to expect all manufacturers to properly support the "older" interconnect standards. That said, the multi-channel analog interconnects are still relevant, but it is rare to find a manufacturer that properly implements a flexible bass management system.

Mark

I wonder if i-Link support will ever be there. Is it technically feasible?
The HDMI support seems more likely, if Oppo can send native DSD over HDMI I trust Pioneer can as well, but the HDMI needs to be at 1.2 or above I believe so a lot of receivers are not compatible (glad I do have a 1.3 HDMI receiver!).

Unfortunately, I think you are right there. I am in the position that an HDMI AVR would be useless to me anyway, as my display is component (as I understand it, the HDMI "circuit" must be complete for the handshake to work). I just have to wonder why include an analog section at all if you are gonna do a half-arsed job at it (like I said, that's expected of Samsung, not Pioneer...)

Peace... Vader

I'm in the exact same position with my 59AVI.

Have you (or anyone else) done a good side by side of SD upconvert between the 59 and the 95? I run HDMI direct to my display, so it's not easy to A/B the two.

I use the HD XA2 for SD upconversion, but I have to admit it has been many many months since I've even thought about watching a SD DVD. Never even put a SD DVD in the 95. I'll give it a try.

Thanks - I'll be curious to see what you think.

I would have picked up an XA2 or 35, but was waiting for some of the new pre/pro and flagship receiver's to come out in order to utilize 1.3a. Given the recent developments with Warner, I probably won't end up purchasing an HD-DVD unit.

Walkamo, will this model be able to send the decoded LPCM stream over iLink? If not, will one of the other 2008 models? And if still not, can you please add that to any future requirement specs?

Same here. Besides there are like only 3 dvd players with HDMI 1.2 that can pass bitstream sacd and dvd audio.
