At Pioneer's CES booth is a new BD player, the BDP-05FD. Pioneer showed a nice prototype that has some very cool features. It has flush-type touch control on the front panel, so when you want to press say eject, you just lightly press the front panel by the open/close icon and it flashes a white light and will open the tray. The player is physically a little taller than the 95fd.

Chris Walker has agreed to post some photos for us.

The coolest feature is the target 10 second boot time, and 1 second power down target time (Pioneer is trying their hardest to hopefully meet the target speeds). This player will decode everything (including DTS MA internally!!!! It will bitsream everything as well (like the 95fd). I believe Pioneer hopes to sell this player for less than the 95fd (chris??)

DTS-Master Audio internal decoding!
BD profile 1.1
Ethernet (not BD Live capable)

I have some low quality photos I can post tomorow if chris unable to post his before then.

Update: Looks I was about $100 too high on the price ($800 according to gizmodo)

Just enjoy HD in whatever form you can (Sat, Cable, D-VHS, OTA, HD DVD, or BD).

The press release said 1.1 and that they would have more info at the show in May. So it sounds to me like street June at earliest.
Cannot seem to find the press release but this should do.

Pioneer is currently showing a new BD model that has no model number, release date or price point. The player is Bonus View (profile 1.1) compatible and internally decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. Pioneer has promised more information at their product show in May.

I think it might sell for around $899 (JUST A GUESS).

I dont believe it will be sold until may at least. This player is beautiful like all the other elite blu ray players. I will put up the photos as soon as i get home tomorow (unless chris posts his HQ pics).

Just enjoy HD in whatever form you can (Sat, Cable, D-VHS, OTA, HD DVD, or BD).

Is "BDP-05FD" the model number for the new Pioneer Blu-ray player or is it a temporary number for it?

Where I would hope you are right about the price. My bet is because of this artice it will be higher than that. Unless the higher priced model will be when the come out with the 2.0 player around Oct. would be my guess now.

This is encouraging news. I was hoping Pioneer would release a player with internal decoding of of all codecs including DTS MA. I'm not into all the extras the various profiles offer, just want to watch a movie with the best picture and audio quality available.

After hearing about the new Panasonic, I was getting concerned the Pioneer would let me down, but now I'll wait.

Why wouldn't this be a 2.0 player, why make a "stop" at 1.1? With all the interactive BD Live features studios are announcing I just don't get Pioneer's strategy here.

For those without an HDMI 1.3 receier you get the internal audio decoding, but..........?

I miss the rosewood sides on the old Pioneer Elite equipment!

Blu-ray - 576

HD DVD - 81

Chris had said that they are releasing a "few" players next year, so I am guessing that there will be a 2.0 profile Elite player after this one is released probably a little more than the current 95FD, like Chris mentioned.

Hurray! I can finally get interested in a Pioneer Elite BD player. If the specs hold up and depending on price of course, it will be a good alternative to the new Panny BD50. My Panny 10 has been flawless but is getting behind on the latest features.

Thanks Chris for the information...Can you tell us if this player will be upgradeable to a 2.0 profile? I know you can not give us a price, but will this be the one that is less expensive than the current 95FD? Thanks again, can't wait to replace the HD1 in my theater with another top notch Elite player!

Thanks Chris.
Can you clarify something for me. I noticed the logo for DTS on the third shot and since this player can decode DTS HD MA why would in not use this one?

Quote:

DTS-HD 2.0 + Advanced Digital Outâ„¢
DTS-HD 2.0 + Advanced Digital Out denotes the dual ability to output DTS-HD Master Audio streams to an external decoder such as an A/V receiver or pre-amp/processor as well as output DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Lossless channels directly to a TV or external amplifier through analog outputs. Use the logo shown at right.

But instead uses this one.

Quote:

DTS-HD Advanced Digital Outâ„¢
DTS-HD Advanced Digital Out denotes the ability to output DTS-HD Master Audio streams to an external decoder such as an A/V receiver or pre-amp/processor. Use the logo shown at right.

Both taken from the DTS site.

http://www.dts.com/support/brandguid...ss_through.php

Only reason I ask is there is enough confusion in the HD audio right now. Do we need more when people look at a logo and go to the site to see it mean something differnet than what the site says.

I noticed no ethernet port in the back. If that is the case then it will not be a 2.0 player.
