Is there a list somewhere of BluRay players with RS232 control? I did a search and didn't come up with much - the new Denon ones are, both oy - $1000 and $2000 respectively.

Or, is there another word I should be searching for other than RS232?

FWIW, and I did PM jzoz so he can update the sticky thread, but my research shows that if you're looking for a 1.1 BluRay with RS232 control so you can integrate it with your home automation system, you have a choice between Denon and Denon. There is supposedly a Marantz one coming out in Q2, but it's just a rebadged Denon 3800.

For me personally, where RS232 adds value is in more intelligent remote control. I have a single remote where I can press the pause button, and it sends the command to my HA controller (I use a PC) via a USBUIRT. The controller then determines whether:
1) I'm watching a physical DVD and the Sony 777 DVD megachanger is playing a DVD
2) I'm watching a ripped DVD via TheaterTek
3) I'm watching TV via SageTV (tivo competitor)
4) I'm listening to a CD in that room.

I need to know what the actual device is doing to confirm what's being used in that room, so pure IR doesn't work. Once that's determined, it sends the pause command only to the device in use for a given room. Same thing if I did play/next, or up/down/left/right for UI control.

That true automation of remotes and elimination of even a "universal" remote is actually my inlaws favorite part of the system, and I'd prefer to not add anything to my system that upsets that paradigm.

Hence, it seems that my only true choices are
1) spend $1000 on a Denon that only does HDMI out, which just seems sketchy
2) spend $2000 on a Denon/Marantz that does component out
3) Wait another year, and stick with upscaled DVDs and OTA HD on my soon-to-be-delivered 58" Panny. (that costs the same as the Marantz, btw).

I'm sure the future will be more integration-friendly, here's hoping the future is sooner than we think.

This OLD thread was recently linked on Cocoontech. I was curious to find out if there are any updated/current products that fits the requirements (BD + RS232)?

LOL! I actually had to check a box that said "I am aware that this Thread is rather old but I still want to make a reply", because, "This Thread is more than 758 days old."

The Oppo BDP-83 has RS232. It is option that you pay a little extra for when you order the product.

What do you consider affordable?

The $499 Oppo BDP-93 has RS-232 control.
