Cool

I havent been around much lately,
recently had to replace a dead laptop, a water heater, kitchen fridge and my man-cave bar fridge.

However I was happy to find the Marshall Stack replica mini-fridge on sale.
They came out about a month or two after I bought my crappy Danby
Always wanted one ever since, I'm a bit of a guitar nut....so was kind of happy when the Danby finally died.

Goes to 11

Still saving up for a new 4K projector this fall to hopefully replace my 8 y/o Epson 1080UB.
Holding out to see if the new Epson 6040 (yes I want a Black Projector) is as good as a new JVC RS-400
I also have a line on an RS-500 (DLA-X750) for $2100 under msrp that comes with a spare lamp.

I still have the popcorn machine, just moved it behind the curtain
into my storage space (along with the dead Danby)

Cool

I stopped in at Long and McQuade for another Hercules guitar hanger
(placed a single stud behind the curtain right where two panels meet)

and also found a little mini-marshall stack that matches my new Fridge, How could I resist ...for just $59

This little bugger really rocks for its size, Over Drive mode is kickass!
( 1 watt amp, 3" speaker) runs off a single 9 volt battery...

Congrats! Let us know how it goes. I'm subscribed to the JVC RS400 and the Epson 5040/6040 threads. I'm undecided. I'm not gonna be ready for it until after the first of February, so I'm studying hard.....

The price point for the Epson 5040 is right on the money at $3k in the U.S.
It would have been a great choice for me too, a die hard Epson fan for the past 8 years.

However Epson Canada somehow got their MSRP in Canada Terribly Wrong at $5300
(It should have only been about $1k more than the U.S. price.) ~$3999

...as a result my options were the JVC RS400(X550) for $3900
OR upgrade to the JVC RS500(X750) for $5899 (reg price here is $7999) and get a free spare lamp.

The RS400 would have been the logical choice, but I wanted the best deal, not just the cheapest.

I think my room is well setup to take advantage of the highest contrast machine,
so paying just $600 more than the Epsons 5040 Canadian price has me in a Happy place.

It will also be nice to finally have a Black projector in my batcave instead of white

Your room is great, and thankfully, that sweet fridge goes to 11. Does the temp dial inside also go to 11?

A sincere question...do you have kids?

To Hell with Georgia...

Kids? oh hell No! hate the little bank account draining poop machines!
Never married, life long bachelor who enjoys his own toys too much!

I'm about 7 years away from retirement,
even if I had kids, they'd be long gone and I'd be a grandpa by now.

LOL! I have more than a few, and I could see them raising holy h@$$ in your room!

I too am a guitar guy, but mine are kept in the cases! My family enjoys when I get them out, but only I get them out...

Again, your room is fantastic!

Oh I hear that!

My speakers and subs all have the grills and covers removed because I love the look
but to avoid having my tweeters all pushed in by curious fingers they would all be re-installed if kids had access.

The new JVC X750R will arrive Thursday this week,

a new Panasonic DMP UB900 4KBluray player
is also on the way from BestBuy.ca on-line Friday)
Just 1 day ahead of the looming Postal Strike in Canada

Almost as sexy as the new JVC

...and while at BB, I grabbed a handful of 4K UHD demo/testing material...

although I have all of these in 1080 Bluray already, none have Atmos sound tracks,

These releases ALL do, plus 4K, HDR, WCG and I thoroughly Loved all 5 movies enough to double dip.
Also have The Martian Extended Edition with Atmos (My 1080p Bluray only had DTS-MA)
and Mad Max Fury Road coming from Amazon on Friday!

I might still need a ceiling mount if the much larger JVC won't fit on my rear bookcase,
and I will need a new 18Gbps 2.2/2.0a HDMI cable in a 30' length, time to hit up monoprice again.

as a temporary fix,

the Panny does have two HDMI outputs (video and audio) and comes with one 18Gbps (6') HDMI cable.
I could put the 4K BD player next to the projector at the rear of the room and just use my current 1.3 cable
(currently used for my 1080UB) to run the audio to my AVR for uncompressed 7.1.4 Atmos.

Cool

Wow! the new X750 is Bright even in Low lamp mode and the iris manually cranked down -10

The Blacks are out of this world!

I was going to ceiling mount the new X750,
but I managed to make it work with a secured 5" extension on my bookcase for now.
(a $10 22" x 22" LACK table top from IKEA lol!)

The new JVC Drarfs the little Epson, and weighs about 20 pounds more too

It's like parking a new Black Bugatti next to a Toyota Prius

The extra brightness in the X750 adds real POP to the colors,
Even with the iris clamped down in eco mode.

My Epson 1080UB had great black levels, but in large part was because it was so dim in comparison
If I brought the brightness levels up to match the JVC's, the blacks would have turned to gray.

While I was cranking down the iris on the X750 I saw the blacks go WAY down, seriously DEEP INKY Black
yet the colors and whites were still vibrant and lost no pop at all! Simply AMAZING!

JVC X750 in Cinema Mode, ECO (low lamp) iris at -10

My Epson 1080UB calibrated low lamp mode

I realize that screen shots don't tell the whole story,

Both were shot from my center seat with a hand held smart phone (Samsung S6 Edge)
But the difference in person is shocking.

It sure is nice to no longer see LCD pixel structure anymore,
and I've already moved my seats up to 9 feet from my 120" screen (was 10' eyes to screen)

I've demo'd the JVC's before, but there's nothing like seeing the dramatic difference in your own batcave.

...and just before a full weekend to play with your new toys. Nice! Good that you found the JVC to be a monumental improvement over the Epson. Contrast is truly king.
