Hey guys! I'm not entirely new here, but I haven't really ever posted anything yet. I bought my house from my great grandmother in the summer of '08, and the first thing I wanted to do was make the "finished" basement (crappy old pieces of carpet, ugly ugly green paint, and ceiling tiles) into a home theater. It started out with a projector sitting on top of a wardrobe and some cheap speakers, and has slowly changed and morphed a handfull of times to where it is today. This first pic is one I took after I already mounted the projector and rearrangeda bit:
So after that, I got some carpet from work (I'm a flooring manager at the local Menards), and some paint as well. Painted the walls, put in some carpet, built a frame for the screen, etc:
I had that setup for a while, and then I slightly rearranged (separated the top and bottom of the cabinet, moved all the equipment to the opposite wall). It stayed like that until the other night...
I decided my screen was a touch on the large side. Don't get me wrong, a huge screen is awesome (11'x6', which I think I calculated to about 152"), but the way the room is laid out gave me very little options as far as seating and arrangement. The room is 13' wide, and 34' long. I have an HT side, and the other side is for my band where we have my drums, all the guitars, amps, etc. Here is the progress from last night and today:
and my video game collection I moved upstairs to a built in cabinet that was otherwise useless
The shelf thingy I built this afternoon. I haven't decided whether or not I want to paint it black or stain it, probably a dark color. Anyways, I forgot to pick up stuff to make my frame and screen, and I also have yet to mount the projector. That'll be in the next week or so, but I'm already liking the setup better than my old one, even at a sacrifice of screen size. I'll still be around 80", so I can't complain too much
Not too bad for a recent college grad working retail 45 hours a week! I think I have a total of about $1500-$2000 into it, which includes the projector, sound, furniture, lumber and etc, carpet, and a few other odds and ends. Feedback and suggestions are very welcome!
