Happy to hear things turned out well for you. The insurance company so far has been pretty good, just a big paperwork drill, but we are getting our money back.

More updates coming soon!

We got rid of a bedroom yesterday. We are now officially a two bedroom, one bar house.

Why get rid of a bedroom?

1. We don't have enough guests to justify a guest room.
2. Madaghan's toys, crayons, dolls, have taken over the living room. Now, she has a hang out of her own.
3. It can be converted back to a bedroom very easily.
4. Guests can still sleep overnight in the room.

BEFORE PIC:

AFTER (sort of)

Of course there is still plenty left to do. New flooring, new drywall etc. But, it is a start.

This is the word of O'Shea.....Thanks be to Beer.

Very cool! Lucky girl!

Reminded me a bit of a similar project where someone turned the opening into a cool secret "Lion, Witch & the Wardrobe" wardrobe treatment as explained here.

Brian - Room is looking really good! Have you been using the jukebox a lot? How is it working after these months?

And as you were going down to NC, I went down to VA for the Irene weekend!

Stoning the bar!!

This afternoon we started stoning the wall behind the bar.
1st step is black builder's felt,

2nd step is Wire lathe.

By the way, the wire lathe is sharp.

Very sharp.

I thought "stoning" is what you did at a bar not TO a bar!

Oh, and watch that wire backing, it can be really sharp. In case you had not noticed.

Hopefully you still have all of your fingers, or did not experience something like this poor fellow.

So I had a Halloween party on Saturday, October 29th the same night of snowstorm in the Northeast. I mean of nights it has to snow 12" on the night of my party? We had a scary walk that my friend Doug worked on for months..cancelled. But ya know what? People still came. Well, people with 4 wheel drive (and a few Subaru AWDs). We still had a good crowd, and very good time.

There is way too many pics for me to resize, a post one by one.
Ok, I will give you one or two for a preview...then click the link at the bottom to see the rest!

Miss me?

I have been a busy boy combining two rooms and cutting down trees. First, an update on my daughter's new suite. Since we never have any overnight guests, Ok, never is a strong word, it is more like "seldom". It got to the point we were calling it the "Once a Year Guest Room" and thought the space was being wasted. As my loyal readers know we knocked the wall down in the beginning of October in an effort to create a "lounge area" for my daughter so she'll stop dragging all her $hit, I mean toys, into the living room.

I picked up the lumber from Lumber Liquidators.. 20 bundles at about 100 pounds each:

While installing the wood floor, I threw the discarded pieces out the window. Now worries tree huggers... the wood was picked up by my friend Joey to be burned in his wood stove to heat his house. So don't get your burka in a bunch.

Here is a view from my daughter's bed looking into her new Lounge. There will be a couch along that backwall under the guitar.

Here is the view from the hallway:

Yes, she is a lucky (spoiled) to have her own Christmas tree.

My next post I will post more pics and a floor plan for all ya'all. Plus there will be actual AV stuff to post because I will be installing her TV on a ceiling mount that spins 360. Can't wait.

What else have I been up to?

Cutting down a Christmas Tree!Influenced by the Griswalds, we decided this year to get a real tree. Not just any tree mind you, a cut your own tree.

When we got up this morning, and looked out our backyard, I saw the deer that I have trained to mow my lawn hard at work:

Welcome back my friend. Floor looks great. I have had the pleasure of cutting down my own tree for several years, but this year we decided to go artificial. Go figure. Now don't wait a month before coming back!

Brian,

Good to see you back on here with some updates. Sounds like all is well for your clan?
Nice progress with your daughters "castle". I really like that flooring choice - what kind of wood is that?

Yeah the Princess' Castle Build is well underway.
The floor we used was Lumber Liquidators Utility floor. It is the cheapest stuff they sell because it is miss matched and damaged stuff. But that was the look we wanted and as you see from the pictures, the stuff we bought is alot better quality then we thought. I think it is about a dollar a square ft.

The rock wall behind the bar is finally done!! WHoo Hoo!

Those crooked rocks near the top are just temporary. They are holding up the rocks above around the vent.

The Princess' new bedroom (apartment) is 90% done. I still have to do the floor molding, and cover a hole in the ceiling, but the room is pretty much done and useable!

Now, I did not take any pictures, but I do have a video. I even make a special guest star appearance in my pajamas (one at a time ladies).

That "rock-wall" looks great!

I'm thinking the next photos we see will be a NY's party?

No, I was lucky to have off for the first time in 12 years. And it looks crazy and disorganized but it is not. It is alot of "pens" with alleys for stretchers or whatever else is needed.

You lied to us. You said there would not be a New Years Eve party based on your working.

You know that once you lie you're essentially useless on the stand, right?

The shame.

Still looks like a great party - and those are the most fun, the quick thrown together get togethers. Looks like you had a god time.

More pics of the women on the poles would be a great addition to this thread. I'm just saying.
